@poleske What the fck do you have against 'gays', i mean, i'm noy gay myself but i know some people, even an old teacher of mine. So would you please shut the fck up old man? 'cause u clearly are an ol' guy the way you talk and stuff. Bam, gottya there man!
i'm only listening this because i have to, for my guitar-lessons. But my opinion: This guy was drunk as hell when he sung this. Sounds like sh!t, people.
My mates dad showed this to her and her dad got offended when she said she hadnt heard of him. She loved his music though. The next day she came into school with the c.d. and played it in history. Now everyone is obsessed with him. Never heard a voice so amaing!! go the boss!!! :D :D
Amazing lyrics, although I don't agree with his political views, he is a thruth american with an incredible music, arribaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Springsteen
@ImAsMadAsHell How would you get that impression" He talks about his sexual attraction to "Mary" and never hints at homosexual desires anywhere in the song. The song is about issues facing blue collar workers, The economic issue of depending on economic expansion in order to find the work you depend upon to survive as well as the social issue of having one's entire life determined for them when they are still very young. Most importantly it expresses longing for the hopeful days of youth.
@ImAsMadAsHell I don't know how you don't understand this. He got his highschool girlfriend pregnant so he had to get married to her right away. They did not have a large ceremony because they were married due to an unwanted pregnancy. I don't see how you could find anything homosexual about those lyrics. Can you please explain how it could reference homosexuality?
@poleske .hahahaha u .call yourself a boss fan ? Allegedly this song is about Bruce Springsteen's BROTHER and his dismal marriage , the subtext is is riddled with gay references. Going "down to the river" is a euphemism .for bareback riding and "the jonestown company" famous was a gay club in Detroit. Look it up on google if you dont believe me...
@ImAsMadAsHell --- You seem disturbed. I like the guys music, that doesn't mean I need to obsess over him and study his personal life. I think you are probably a homosexual the way you see everything as being a subtle gay reference.
@mantou01 Thats annoying? You criticize him and you do the same thing. That's annoying. Not to mention your last sentence is a run-on sentence. If you're going to criticize someone for their grammar, make sure yours is more than stellar.
i heard this song yesterday in the voice of holland and now i remeber this is the song which we all listend to when a good friend of mine was buried! i'm almost crying of this song
I'm guessing you don't really get this song. Wait until you're fifty, get a little life under your belt, watch your dreams die along with your innocence with no hope of either coming back, and then get back to us.
@wakawaka09 Yeah, but that still isnt sad. Its a bummer but its not sad...so life happened, get over it. Now someone dying of a tragic death, that would be sad. But this no.
@Revinita , Try this out, why is this song set in a valley? What does the river represent in this song? What does he mean when he ask "Is a dream a lie if it doesn't come true or is it something worse that sends me down to the river, even though it's dry? I'm guessing you think the essence of this song is keep your dick in your pants or suffer the consequences. You also probably think "Moby Dick" is about a whale.
@wakawaka09 I think Moby Dick was the dry book I had to read in English in my last year of high school. This song is another pathetic wailing by someone who makes his money sounding like he gives a shit about people.
'now those memories come back to haunt me, they haunt me like a curse; is a dream a lie that don't come true or is it something worse ...' -master song writer, ty -took me back -Mav
Its called poetic liscense you jack offs. Most of you commenting about his poor grammar, should look at yourselves and see if there is anything in your lives that YOU created that has touched anyone. The man is a musician, an artist, and his lyrics should invoke emotion not meaningless debates over his wording. If you do not like it find something else to listen to, and then go F--k yourself.
Whatever about the grammar. Its like poetry, you dont snap at e.e.cummings just because the poems were written in lower case. Lyrics are like poetry, and however he wants to express them, he was "poetry license" to do so. I still think this is his best song...and I'm only fourteen.
I just wonder how the hell did he make up something like that, its the best lyrics I have ever heard in my whole life, bless bruce springsteen, he is a genious for the geniouses, I hope he lives the best life a person can live, and I hope 100 % happiness and joy to his live cause he made this songs. This music has its own space in me. I can't stop loving it. God bless Springseen
@tanergode You're right, but Bruce's english isn't that great either. He says "they bring you up to do like your daddy done" Which is just wrong. "Like your daddy did" would be correct. Bruce Springsteen shouldn't be able to get away with it just because he's famous.
Obviously you know nothing about songwriting and poetry if you're actually saying that... even Shakespeare did this in Romeo and Juliet so that he can keep it to 10 syllables a line. This is similar because there's beats to keep and although the lyrics are beautiful, it's also supposed to be a catchy song, he's a musician.
@raychayyyy How is it obvious that i know nothing about songwriting or poetry just because i don't like to rape the english language? "your daddy done" is terrible english and any native speaker should know this, it's just a shame they don't. It doesn't matter if Shakespeare did it hundreds of years ago. It is still wrong. It is possible to write poetry and music using correct language. Those who use incorrect language are either lazy, or don't even know the language that well.
@IronManSuomi It's called creative freedom. Perhaps it was done on purpose. Perhaps it's part of an accent. Perhaps it just fits better. Or perhaps Bruce's English was just bad. I can't figure out why you're making a big deal out of it.
The song is beautiful with or without errors - and if you don't agree with that opinion, you should listen to other stuff, rather than bash it.
@raychayyyy also would you defend rappers for their incorrect use of the english language? How about Timbaland? He has a song called "the way i are". Which is just stupid. You're probably defending Bruce Springsteen because you like his music, but is it a different thing if the music is bad? I like this song but "they bring you up to do like your daddy done" is ridiculously bad english.
@IronManSuomi yeah i'd defend rappers because i think rap is great as well. not timbaland cause i think that song is stupid as well. but "the way i are" isn't poetry like this is. there are other reasons to artists using "bad english" than them not knowing how to, or being lazy. if you think that, then you're the ignorant one
