  • get taste, listeners >:D

  • i'm only listening this because i have to, for my guitar-lessons. But my opinion: This guy was drunk as hell when he sung this. Sounds like sh!t, people.

  • My mates dad showed this to her and her dad got offended when she said she hadnt heard of him. She loved his music though. The next day she came into school with the c.d. and played it in history. Now everyone is obsessed with him. Never heard a voice so amaing!! go the boss!!! :D :D

  • Harmonica Beast

  • the boss

  • i dont listen to english song but thats just incredable !

  • Well done video for a wonderful song. Thanks for sharing and greetings from Kurdistan.

  • @soranB55 Where in the world is Kurdistan?

  • @Beckhwith You ask me this question via the computer ?! Why not google the word Kurdistan and be done with it !!!!!

  • You are THE BEST... TEH BOSS !!!

  • Amazing lyrics, although I don't agree with his political views, he is a thruth american with an incredible music, arribaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Springsteen

  • awesome ... Thank you for sharing))

  • Why the hell is this NOT the first suggestion when i search 'the river'!?

  • is it true this song is about Bruce Sprigsteen coming out as veing gay ?

  • @ImAsMadAsHell How would you get that impression" He talks about his sexual attraction to "Mary" and never hints at homosexual desires anywhere in the song. The song is about issues facing blue collar workers, The economic issue of depending on economic expansion in order to find the work you depend upon to survive as well as the social issue of having one's entire life determined for them when they are still very young. Most importantly it expresses longing for the hopeful days of youth.

  • "@poleske " no walk down the aisle, no wedding day smile ?" - that;s gotta reference surely ?

  • @ImAsMadAsHell I don't know how you don't understand this. He got his highschool girlfriend pregnant so he had to get married to her right away. They did not have a large ceremony because they were married due to an unwanted pregnancy. I don't see how you could find anything homosexual about those lyrics. Can you please explain how it could reference homosexuality?

  • @poleske .hahahaha u .call yourself a boss fan ? Allegedly this song is about Bruce Springsteen's BROTHER and his dismal marriage , the subtext is is riddled with gay references. Going "down to the river" is a euphemism .for bareback riding and "the jonestown company" famous was a gay club in Detroit. Look it up on google if you dont believe me...

  • @ImAsMadAsHell --- You seem disturbed. I like the guys music, that doesn't mean I need to obsess over him and study his personal life. I think you are probably a homosexual the way you see everything as being a subtle gay reference.

  • @poleske he is married too

  • why d heck did u translate "WE DID" TO "WED" ???

  • @TheRambo3012

I think they meant to write "We'd"

  • น้องน้ำไหลลงเจ้าพระยาเร็ว เดี่ยวจะปีใหม่แล้ว

  • You should learn better grammar; wed=we'd god damn thats annoying!

  • @mantou01

You're annoying yourself, just enjoy the beautifull song... :)

    annoyed about a '. Get a life..

  • @mantou01 Thats annoying? You criticize him and you do the same thing. That's annoying. Not to mention your last sentence is a run-on sentence. If you're going to criticize someone for their grammar, make sure yours is more than stellar.

  • i heard this song yesterday in the voice of holland and now i remeber this is the song which we all listend to when a good friend of mine was buried! i'm almost crying of this song

  • truely a classic!!!

  • fuck the cruel song! thumbs up if you agree with me!

  • Valley of rain!

  • From the fields in Denmark to the streets of Brooklyn ..its still fucking a monster song in 2011

  • Beautiful song =)

  • My life for ya!

  • replace "Mary" with "Marge", "Construction" with "Inspection", "Johnston" with "Nuclear" and you pretty much have a narrative of Homer Simpson's life

  • Love this song - it still haunts.

  • if one more canadian company blocks me i will freak.they suck at the tit of us all.

    but still want blood.

  • This video contains content from SME, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

    Sorry about that.

  • Reminds me of Langston Hugh's Crystal Staircase. Which also made me think about A Raisen In The Sun. I'd like to write something based on this song.

  • I tell ya, Bruce sounded like he smoked a cigarette and then washed it down with some beer everytime he sang, but his songs are fantastic!

  • tanergode, before you start correcting anyone else's spelling CHECK YOUR OWN! you spelled 'from' wrong, asshole.

  • @333mymuse i think it was meant to be form, which in that case is a typo.

  • The Boss rules!

  • this is beautifully done, thank you for sharing!

  • this is beautifully done, thank you for sharing!

  • i dont get it...i heard this song was one of the most saddest songs ever.....i know the meaning of the song and everything....it's not really sad....

  • @14nickygirl14

I'm guessing you don't really get this song. Wait until you're fifty, get a little life under your belt, watch your dreams die along with your innocence with no hope of either coming back, and then get back to us.

  • @wakawaka09 Yeah, but that still isnt sad. Its a bummer but its not sad...so life happened, get over it. Now someone dying of a tragic death, that would be sad. But this no.

  • @14nickygirl14 I'm guessing you're 14. Get back to me in forty years when you know what Springsteen is singing about.

  • @wakawaka09 For your information I am older than that, and I already said, I KNOW WHAT HE IS SINGING ABOUT. its just not sad.

  • @wakawaka09 She's right, this is some guy who fucked himself over and is whining about it, there's nothing sad about it.

  • @Revinita , Try this out, why is this song set in a valley? What does the river represent in this song? What does he mean when he ask "Is a dream a lie if it doesn't come true or is it something worse that sends me down to the river, even though it's dry? I'm guessing you think the essence of this song is keep your dick in your pants or suffer the consequences. You also probably think "Moby Dick" is about a whale.

  • @wakawaka09 I think Moby Dick was the dry book I had to read in English in my last year of high school. This song is another pathetic wailing by someone who makes his money sounding like he gives a shit about people.

  • 'now those memories come back to haunt me, they haunt me like a curse; is a dream a lie that don't come true or is it something worse ...' -master song writer, ty -took me back -Mav

  • Freakin' dyslexic can't even spell at a 4th grade level.

  • have you ever heard of apostrophes?

  • i loved the pictures... very american...

  • His very best.

  • He is without a doubt my favorite American songwriter of all time.

  • Love the song, especially it's lyrics. Definetly one of the best songs ever. However, uploader should learn to write, this was terrible.

  • Beautiful song ! I´ve always loved it even though I could only understand some parts of it . Thank you so much for posting its lyrics !

  • This is the reason we call him The Boss!

  • Learn to spell, please.

  • 10* for ever !

  • Its called poetic liscense you jack offs. Most of you commenting about his poor grammar, should look at yourselves and see if there is anything in your lives that YOU created that has touched anyone. The man is a musician, an artist, and his lyrics should invoke emotion not meaningless debates over his wording. If you do not like it find something else to listen to, and then go F--k yourself.

  • yeh...yeh.....yehhh....................

  • Whatever about the grammar. Its like poetry, you dont snap at e.e.cummings just because the poems were written in lower case. Lyrics are like poetry, and however he wants to express them, he was "poetry license" to do so. I still think this is his best song...and I'm only fourteen.

  • I just wonder how the hell did he make up something like that, its the best lyrics I have ever heard in my whole life, bless bruce springsteen, he is a genious for the geniouses, I hope he lives the best life a person can live, and I hope 100 % happiness and joy to his live cause he made this songs. This music has its own space in me. I can't stop loving it. God bless Springseen

  • memories are back to hunt me

  • There his songs so he can say them how he wants.!

  • @tanergode You're right, but Bruce's english isn't that great either. He says "they bring you up to do like your daddy done" Which is just wrong. "Like your daddy did" would be correct. Bruce Springsteen shouldn't be able to get away with it just because he's famous.

  • @IronManSuomi

Obviously you know nothing about songwriting and poetry if you're actually saying that... even Shakespeare did this in Romeo and Juliet so that he can keep it to 10 syllables a line. This is similar because there's beats to keep and although the lyrics are beautiful, it's also supposed to be a catchy song, he's a musician.

  • @raychayyyy How is it obvious that i know nothing about songwriting or poetry just because i don't like to rape the english language? "your daddy done" is terrible english and any native speaker should know this, it's just a shame they don't. It doesn't matter if Shakespeare did it hundreds of years ago. It is still wrong. It is possible to write poetry and music using correct language. Those who use incorrect language are either lazy, or don't even know the language that well.

  • @IronManSuomi It's called creative freedom. Perhaps it was done on purpose. Perhaps it's part of an accent. Perhaps it just fits better. Or perhaps Bruce's English was just bad. I can't figure out why you're making a big deal out of it.

The song is beautiful with or without errors - and if you don't agree with that opinion, you should listen to other stuff, rather than bash it.

Also, your punctuation is off as well...

  • @raychayyyy also would you defend rappers for their incorrect use of the english language? How about Timbaland? He has a song called "the way i are". Which is just stupid. You're probably defending Bruce Springsteen because you like his music, but is it a different thing if the music is bad? I like this song but "they bring you up to do like your daddy done" is ridiculously bad english.

  • @IronManSuomi yeah i'd defend rappers because i think rap is great as well. not timbaland cause i think that song is stupid as well. but "the way i are" isn't poetry like this is. there are other reasons to artists using "bad english" than them not knowing how to, or being lazy. if you think that, then you're the ignorant one

  • @tanergode dude ... the only word he wrote rong was we'd (what he spelled as wed) and because he repeated it, it just goes for 1 mistake. so he just got an A-.

haha, and i'am even from the netherlands with dyslectie.

    Bruce Springsteen is G-R-E-A-T!?!

  • @melvinTZR Way more mistakes than that.

  • @ElectricS45 People who tend to criticize others for their grammar in their posts usually don't have much else to contribute in the way of conversation I'd imagine.

  • @tanergode That's ok we all understand the song

  • Kippenvel.

  • @Diglytron Zeg dat maat

  • @tanergode it's only a missing apostrophe no big deal

  • @tanergode Check your typos next time before you make fun of a person's grammar (form*)

  • @tanergode Also if wed is the only mistake in this video's grammar mistakes that you caught then you must be an idiot as well.

  • @tanergode There are alot of dyslexics running about. It's really not their fault.

  • @tanergode Wow. SHUTUP. Can't you just be appreciative that this person posted this & tried to do their best or do you do this to everyone. Sounds pretty damn petty is all I'm sayin'

  • @tanergode who cares, you know what he means. just listen to the song and don't bother how somebody spelled a word (two words). by the way, i think you meant form instead of fomr. not everybody speaks english as excellent as you do. so go show your talent some place else. now listen to the song and relax.

  • @tanergode

    fomr,,, wtf ?

  • @tanergode How do you know the guy, who posted the video, is a native speaker? Don't make assumptions on other people capabilities or positions in life. I didn't even come on this video to look at the lyrics, I came for the music, because I can hear the lyrics for myself. And for the record your English isn't that great either. Great song btw.

  • Great! But his best is "The Wrestler" in my opinion!

  • This is perfect.

  • this song is so sad

  • at 0 52 looks ;ike the plat river

  • Best I think...Memories came back

  • One of his best

  • one of the best songs of all time in my opinion. So haunting and sad.

  • The greatest : "The Boss"

  • Personally, I like the WED and the ID......I knew what u meant....didn't feel the need to correct ya! Great Vid EO

  • Is a dream a lie that don't come true or is it something worse

  • ... Psssst... It is "we'd" and "I'd". Just wanted to let you know that apostrophes exist, as do other pictures of rivers...

  • nice song

  • Lovely song. Well, it's off to shoot myself, I guess...

  • la canzone è spettacolare....ma è molto commovente

  • @MrLuciferus666 I totally agree.

  • bruce springsteen is amazing. this is my favorite song by him.

  • La canzone è fantastica, Bruce è un Maestro ma chi ha scelto queste immagini ha la sensibilità di un bradipo in calore.

Dear Bruce, you that made a song for Obama's victory please help us to do an LP to destroy Berlusconi.

If isn't possible, please, bombard us...

    is the only solution..

    Grazie.

    Saluti da Roma

  • This is truly one of the best songs ever written on this planet. It`s a pity you didn`t have an apostrophe on your keyboard, but I love the photos! Thanks for the lyrics anyway! Nice work!!
