  • after watching this i think you cosmcosm is the answer to all my production problems, ive dedicated my whole day to watching your videos, so inspiring & informative, really well done mate.

  • those sub titles are fucked

  • not a bad tut man. but fuck ur subtitles.

  • XD turn on subtitles

  • WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THE KICK FILE?

  • hello

I am new to ableton and have spent the last week looking for and following tutorials so I can get my head around the program. You tute is without a doubt the most fun I have had with ableton so far. It is such an amazing program. Can't wait to do more of your tutes! Thanks

  • wow that was awesome.

  • LOL @The captions.

  • awesome video. that just blew my mind. i learned a TON! thanks so much.

  • @gogswarriors agreed, good job

  • lol i know this doesn't have anything to do with the actual content of the video but turn on captions lmao

  • I can't find where to download that kick you have preloaded in this vid in the very beginning. Can someone help me find this, please???? & thanks for the great tutorials and sharing your knowledge.

  • are the subtitles confusing anyone else?

  • @Subieification uh beans?

  • too much coffees?

just calm down: i can't understand anything! .-.

  • Watched only about 4 minutes of it but already liking and feel as if I am actually going to learn something. Great stuff, many thanks.

  • lol, i made a greasy reese out of this xD

  • I love you!! :) no as much as i love ableton...but the gap is narrowing as i watch youtr videos!! :)

  • Very cool

  • no problem here but you use "pretty cold" instead of "pretty cool"? :))

  • I have a question.. Should i buy ableton live 8 or ableton suite 8 and what is the difference? : )

  • @Tarlor90 Suite has all the instruments, Live 8 has none.

  • @Tarlor90 Live has enough to learn for at least a couple of years...

  • Great video! I feel like I am taking a virtual class, really like it!!! and I love ur accent! hahaha thanks so much!

  • why is your kick like 6 seconds long? i try making one in arrangement view but i can't make it longer than a regular kick...? does this even matter?

I just got ableton 3 days ago, have never produced before this, and am only 17.

I've already logged over 12 hours on it just messing around, but I don't know much... anyway can anyone recommend the best way for picking up ableton?

  • @laysitroll Picking up as in purchasing? No recomendation. Picking up as in getting better? Try to go in sessions. Sit down for one hour, and time it. After that hour is up, stop and save it as session #(whatever session your on) and listen to what you have created. then do another hour one, but start a new one, might use the same bassline but you will ultimatley add something on everytime.

I have over 230 sessions ranging from 1 to 8 hours. Just takes time my friend.

  • What happened to the rest of this series? I can only find part 1...Fkn awesome btw!!!

  • baucoup de blabla pour ne rient dire

  • am i the only one reading the subtitles?

  • Who the fuck maked the subtitle ? :P

  • you taught me something that i thought i would have to search forever for, using the effects of the compressor is something i haven't had a chance to experiment with enough, thanks so much :) this video is EXACTLY what i need at the moment! ! ! ! !

  • the program name?

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds sick at the end!

  • Basically the Kiwi brain fires at such an advanced rate that it seems like we are fast but really... normal speed in Aotearoa

  • just great. thanks man!

  • very cool!

  • great stuff.. thanx man..

  • thank you so much!

  • Yeah real nice tom, thank for the video

  • very niiiice tutorial, i tried to do everything as you did, but my bass ended up sounding kinda crappy, ill give it a next try soon! ;)

    thanks very much

  • I didn't know Murray from Flight Of The Concords knew so much about Ableton Live

  • @Fears2Phobia hahaha CRACK UP

  • @Fears2Phobia Brit?....Bret... Yea thats what i said brit.... Its Bret

  • 1) Start Live

    2) Record bass guitar

    3) Profit!

  • I like your method of composition. It's very similar to mine.

    1) Build up an okay sounding track to figure out the sound you're looking for

    2) Delete everything, and come up with something totally different that sounds better

    3) Change the saw bass to a square wave.

    4) Frig around with the effects some more.

    5) Repeat

  • you helped me a lot thank u!

  • Very Cool

  • I think I learned something.... don't listen to NZ's on speed....

  • My head hurts

  • " Financial affairs Friday" 11:02

    LOL

  • lol dont put subtitles on it doesnt know what hes sayin.

  • For those of you complaining of Tom's quick speaking, how about using this amazing thing called pause...and then play...or rewind...

  • some kick arse workflow you've got going there. nice vid.

  • 33 minutes.....this tutorial better be fucking amazing.

  • Idk what all of yall are complaining about, he speaks at my speed :)

  • buttery biscuit bass

  • Very cool by the way :-)

  • Can you speak faster?

  • @cosmcosm great tutorial. It's a bit too advanced for me, an Ableton newbie. I learnt alot though, will definitely be back once I'm more familiar with Ableton. Watching your video, I learnt some things which would have taken me months to figure out by myself.

Great explanation, being a kiwi, I can understand everything you said. Maybe I should do the English transcript, for the non-Kiwi listeners. Some have referred to speed and not understanding everything.

  • @RampageRiddimz

    yes lmao

  • Thank you for spending the time to help us! Really appreciate it.

  • fast speaker ftw, bl to the derps who cant keep up :(

  • that has to be one of the funniest videos ive ever seen !!

  • as always very informative... 10 out of 10 for the tutorial! just cant find part 2?

  • i cant hear nothing .....but its informative....if i spelt that right

  • The Ableton interface is the worst EVER!

  • @ThePhiltastic cuz u dont know and understand it my friend

  • @ThePhiltastic u know of any other interfaces?

  • @ThePhiltastic The Ableton interface is not only clean and relatively easy to navigate after a short learning curve, it is also very intuitive and very uncluttered. You clearly need to spend a little more time with it.

  • @CookieFritz This half hour tutorial is the first in 10 tutorials on basslines only. Need I say anything more? I started using Ableton yesterday and today I created a little bit of simple sounds with it, but doesn't sound very natural, and took me hell of a long time.

  • hey tom!! how is your creative process.. do you always start with the bassline?? then what?

  • very cool..Thanks a lot.

  • very nice mate, just subscribed!

  • very informative video definitely taught me some unique things, trying to get more creative with the music im making this is opened my eyes to some options. thanks =D

  • I'm about ten minutes into this vid, and consider myself an advanced beginner at Ableton, and am picking up some great info, shortcut explanations are a cool touch.

Also looking through the titles of your other videos and am eager to watch those too.

    Awesome job!

  • very cool.. very cool... very cool lol

  • I actually like that fact that he is quick about his tutorials, cause it shows it knows what he is talking about. Plus I know Ableton enough that I can keep up with him. Keep it up Cosmcosm!

  • @cosmcosm you should do text/pic tutorials because I followed a tutorial and fucked up right at the end....... and didn't realize now I have to completely restart lol. But holy crap.. You're a pro at this stuff. Good on ya mate :D

  • very cool

  • Ableton plus you equals me so happppyyyy.

  • Hi, how do you access the operators? I don"t seem to have it. Thanks

  • @mlcsparky

Just read other comment stating it only comes with suite!!

  • @mlcsparky u need the suite version

  • if i may ask, why did you use reverb? I'm relatively new to ableton/production. To me it just sounds like it added white noise to it... and make it sound more roomy. Was reverb to give it a "warmer sound" and make it sound less like a pure signal/sound?

  • i dont have any plugins there, and my vstplugin directory is missing or has not been installed, how i resolve this problem?

  • @amatordehiphop rescan your vsts in the preferences menu etc

  • @bootr0s @mrqreeny problem is i dont have any VSTs in my pc, ableton didnt installed them and i was wondering where i can get some good vst :D

  • @amatordehiphop huh? 3rd party or ableton effects? abletons native effects menu is the one above the spanner.

have you installed third party vsts? if so they automaticallinstall to programfiles/vsts

  • bro youre my savior!

  • he ain't talkin fast hes a kiwi!!! churrr brotha!!!!!

  • Very nice video! Love the way you explain everything! Thanks!

  • lmfao! i fell out of my chair at the subtites at :53 "now for the slaughter..."

  • awsome video!

  • LOL at 30.21 xD

  • i love it when u say very cool

  • super cool

  • super cool

  • One of the best Ableton Live tutorials, thank you

  • Comment removed

  • hmm.. is abelton better than fl studio just wondering if i shuld move on to it;)

  • @djb1a2k3 i moved from fl to reason, than ableton. i now use ableton and reason rewired , and when i see fl studio i laugh at it. i learned sooo much more in reason (how to plug the plugs in plugins, and how to create sounds, not just use presets), and then came ableton, were i have such mobility.

  • @djb1a2k3 100x better. FL studio is easier and all but real pros in the film and music industry use Ableton

  • @OverBlackSands actually most use pro tools, cubase or logic, every studio I've been to either have pro tools or logic, the guys who use live mostly bring it with them(macbooks or laptop) but that doesn't matter as they mostly use third party plugins like reaktor to create sound effects and stuff, I use fl studio & logic as I personally can't work with live cos I don't like the interface but each man to his own I guess

  • @LemonBoiLehclox i see. Thanks for the reply :D I'm actually just starting out on this "thing". Trying to learn how to use Reason and to create sounds

  • Cool vid Tom, but I've got a question. Why do you use simpler to write your drum tracks instead of using the drum rack? I'm a n00b when it comes to making electronic music so the answer is probably pretty obvious, I just can't see it.

Keep up the good work man, the tutorials are really helpful.

    Hutch.

  • wicked video, but it stops for me at 20:44? any1 esle gets this?

  • thanks for the tutorial :)

    funny subtitles indeed!

  • Very insightful tutorial.

  • to really interesting way to Cuba, the pumping and feet!!!

  • very cold

  • no offense , but are you on speed ? your talking super fast man !

  • @MrTranceDeejay Haha!!! He gave a ton of great info in a short amount of time so I think thats why he talks fast.

  • @MrTranceDeejay All Aussies and Kiwis speak this fast :P

  • @hflat1 you cant say all ozzies and kiwis speak this fast man thats a gross generalization .. we have our fare share of pot smokers dude ... they talk slow as ...

  • @MrTranceDeejay Just sounds like an average New Zealand accent.

  • @MrTranceDeejay I was thinking the same thing haha

  • @MrTranceDeejay If you really want the "WTF drugs is he on?" effect, start the video with the CC button on (preferably without realising it for best effect), and try following the on screen text. It's totally surreal. :)

Cosm dude, nice video but I'd cut down on the coffee if I was you

  • @thoughtcontrol82

im 34 seconds deep and about to piss myself already, im gonna do myself the favor of another bong rip before I continure

  • @thoughtcontrol82 "thats right forest gump with the chinese" 8:12

  • is this better than cubase?

  • thank you so much. youve helped to inspire me a little bit more since ive been learning Ableton little by little everyday! and how the track progressed from begining to end....did not expect that. sounds super cool!

  • great tut thanks!

  • @SykikSkills

  • Clinton's negative candidate :D

Great tutorial, thank you very much

  • holy crap, the subtitles are hilarious! I guess youtube hasn't made a kiwi-filter yet!

  • at 26:30 when you're copying the compressor into the reverb channel, you use option key on mac. Do you/anyone know what this is on PC :)?

  • @CarlAxelBo it should be "Ctrl" :D

  • Amazing tutorial

  • 11:56 "Social media time...but no kidding"

  • GREAT, this was just the video I've been looking for.. Thanks so much!

  • Thankyou! I needed this :) Will def work on it over the weekend.

  • I had to watch the first 5 minutes of this 3 times because I kept getting distracted by the subtitles :L

  • could you talk any faster

  • Amazing tutorial man! :D

  • this is putting a twist on these...

  • Awesome

  • I started panicking when i heard those macbook fans going cuz I thought they were mine :(

  • i cant find the operator ?

  • @sloana9191 operator only comes with ableton suite, or you buy it separately.

  • Dnload the audio from this vid at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • This is a new level of awsome! Very pro tutorial. Thanks a lot... Great inspiration...

  • Great stuff, really useful, thanks.

Though I think you should have used a breakbeat drum pattern, it would have worked even better!

  • awesssssomeeee tutorial!!! more more more

  • @RampageRiddimz i did arf arf :)
