i have an auto 1ggte sadly but I am looking to switch it out

i wanna go with a manual 2jz and the only reason I want manual is that I want to turn my Supra into a drift car. Not the most common drift car out there by any means

v. nice supra, and v.good efforts/ if you change in the future to 1j or 2j it will be faster for you car and better to be quicker although the 7m is a freak engine but little more problems with, keep on ur good work.

hehe thanks, it's already a killer ;) The auto is superior on the drag strip but I am changing to manual as the auto does not like my 1uz tps so it behaves stupidly. Just finding the parts here is quite difficult as New Zealanders really like the new fangled automatics in the supras lol. I'm importing alot of my parts from the usa :)

OH MY GOD i hate it when people say that.. automatics are more efficient with turbocharged cars, you maintain constant boost while shifting you have to re spool every shift.

they might have more top end power, but there faster on a pull.

where did u get your intake manifold from? is it a one-of -a-kind?

I got the manifold from a 1jz and got some custom runners welded between the manifold and the 7m flange. Although it was a lot cheaper than getting an aftermarket one, there was a number of things i had to do to make it work. Let me know if you want more details :)

7M's blow head gaskets like m-effers. A 1J or 2J is worlds better. ...Or you could throw in a SB Chevy like I am :D

lol, to 7M's, 1J's, 2J's, and all the rest of the foreign engines...yes...I am n00b-ish. I'm just goin' from friend's experiences. For ignorance's sake, that's why I'm goin' with an american engine. That 7M does looks sweet tho...what wheel size is that? 17? I'm still tryin' to come up with a size for mine.

The 7m's are finicky engines and they need owners that know their quirks and how to build them :) As said below people expect old engines to take abuse and keep going, no engine will take it for long. Mine is built to purpose and will take abuse :D Yep they're Momo Corse RPM's 17x7.5 :) So you're doing a Chev engine in your? Supra? When it comes to american engines i'm a noob haha ;)

Oh i hadn't thought to ask yet, but since you have a 7m, to have the 1j opinion i'm assuming that you have also owned one. I'm not trying to pick a fight at all, i just want to ensure you have reasonable opinions on the 7m ;) I have been through a many 1jz & 2jz engine.... not in my car but in my best friends, they can be just as bad haha, just for different reasons. :) The intake manifold is genius tho, i was jealous and had to have one :P

i have honestly never owned a 1jz or a 2jz. my one buddy owned is currently swapping a 1jz into an rx7 and ihave several friends with 2jz's. i am interested to know why you think the 7m is better platform. i know it is a tank when it comes to reliability but all i hear from my buddies is about how soon im swapping in a 1jz. i know the 2jz is rock solid as well and from what i hear has potential to hold much more boost than a 7m.

See that's the thing, it's not necessarily what engine, it's the tuning and the owner. Alot of people neglect them and expect any engine thats done 150k + to do stupid boost etc. Once any engine is built it should be able to handle some juice. I'm only going for 400whp so a stock rebuild is just fine for me and i only plan to run low boost, the ability of power on low boost can realise what power i can have on high ;)

Once you've learnt how to build a 7m that problem doesn't arise again :D Also it's not better, it's different, they're not really comparable, the only reason people do compare them is becauset they come in the same chassis ;)
