  • I like the topic and how you do it, but the motorcyle muffler is way to loud and annoying....

  • after you strain the peels, I would rinse them in the water of the simple sugar mixture just to get the extra alcohol and flavor out

  • I would not throw the rinds out. I am sure you can shred it in the processor and use it in a cake recipe.

  • How come the finished product isn't see though like it was when you filtered it?

  • @purity4all Because that was the first filtration , with the alcohol and rinds only , when you add the sugar water or simple syrup it changes the appearance to the finished product...

  • @purity4all At 5.16 you can see the change when I add the simple syrup , it changes the look , we also filter it a second time after the resting period.

  • @bowhunter2439 ah gotcha. I can't wait to see how mine turns out. The waiting is the hardest part.

  • I think I used about 1 liter of alcohol, how much sugar and how much water should I use?

  • Wow, these look like they'd make nice Christmas presents, but since Christmas is so close, I'll have to settle for my mom's birthday in February. I don't know if anybody has asked this question yet....but where'd you buy the bottles from? They are nice.

  • @ladypooh412 We bought them at a local wine supply store .

  • Do I hear a kitteh in there? O_o Or am I imagining things?

  • I bought two brand new potato peelers and I still can't get the peel off with no pith. What's the trick?

  • @purity4all There will always be some small amouts here and there until you get the hang of it .... try putting less pressure on the peeler and see if that works , .... a standard peeler should work.

  • @bowhunter2439 I have been at it all day. LOL I tried a pairing knife, a serrated knife and the two veggie peelers. the veggie peelers won't do anything but squirt orange oil in my face unless I put more pressure into it, then they have a pure white back. I have been painstakingly using the serrated knife. I'm going Christmas shopping tomorrow, I think I will be on the look out for a sharper veggie peeler while I'm out.. Does the pith make a really big difference in flavor? Thanks for the help.

  • @purity4all Yes it should not be that difficult , either you need to try a different peeler or mabey you got a soft batch of oranges , ....?? Try the peelers on a lemon if it does the same thing its got to be the peelers .... good luck...!!!

  • @bowhunter2439 Thank you, yes, I think it's the peelers, they won't peel anything citrus not even a grapefruit. Sucks though, they were literally just bought yesterday. Then I went to the store today and picked up another one, a different brand and it did the same thing. What brand are you using? Do you know?

  • @purity4all Think its a rubber maid , check the comments on lemoncello someone asked the same thing , iLL let you know if I can remember to dig them out ...

  • @bowhunter2439 ok, thanks I will.

  • My first ever batch of limoncello is ready to bottle. I tasted it today and it's excellent! I used a little less sugar than you but it still as a nice hint of sweetness and really great lemon flavor (12 lemons per 750ml of everclear).

My orangecello will be ready on the 29th. I'll let you know. Thanks again for your help and happy thanksgiving to you and your family!

    Badda bing!

  • @seattwa Great Ted , Its good you fine tuned the brew to your liking , there are so many variations , this one works for us , thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving to you also.!

  • It took me over a month before I could respond to the video - amazing! I oranged the hell out of it like you did in the video and followed your advice on getting a couple different kinds of oranges. I've never had any fruit-cello so delicious! Thanks

  • @AdamistheBull Happy to hear it turned out well , thanks for watching...

  • Dissolved sugar is chemically different from simple syrup. If it works, it works, but to get simple syrup you should boil for a short time-- not so long that you caramelize and evaporate.

  • @aarossell Yes like 30 seconds , it works

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THE COOL BOTTLES?

  • @Kanoee64 he sounds like a new yorker... you can get pretty much anything there if you look for it

  • @Kanoee64 We got them at a local beer and wine making supply store

  • OK, I added my simple syrup tonight. I went with 3.5 C of sugar to 4.5 C of water for 2 - 750ml bottles of Everclear. I also steeped the zest of 2 lemons with the simple syrup. It added a nice subtle lemon flavor to it. So, I'll let you know on November 20th how it went. Please keep your fingers crossed for me lol!

  • Thank You. I'll use this for my limoncello aswell.

  • @seattwa No problem , like I said before this is a basic recipe that I have tweeked for my personal taste , you can re tweek it , by experimenting with small batches , good luck let me know how it comes out...

  • I started my orangecello today. One bottle of Everclear and eight good size oranges. Would you please give me your water/ sugar ratio for the simple syrup, it's hard to read ( on my iPhone) because of the glare in the video. Thanks.

    Ted

  • @seattwa MIX 2.2 CUPS OF SUGAR TO 4.5 CUPS OF WATER , TO MAKE THE SIMPLE SYRUP , MIX TO ONE BOTTLE OF EVERCLEAR

  • AWESOME thank you. So, only a week the second time huh? i heard it was another month

  • @KerryBerenato Some leave it another month , I know some Italian recipes go straight to the freezer as soon as the simple syrup is mixed with the infused alcohol , there are lots of recipes , I like to let it sit for an additional week or two , thanks for watching.

  • Thanks for the quick reply! But it just do happens that I stopped into a Michael's Art and Craft store and found 2, 3.1 liter glass jars that have hermetic seals. So now I'm ready to roll! And thank you for your help!

  • Does the fermentation container have to be glass? Or is plastic ok. I'm having trouble finding 1/2 gallon glass containers that seal.

  • @seattwa I would use glass , you do not need a tight seal at the top , just put a bowl cup or plate on top to keep dust out , what ever will cover the top of the container no problem , I would not feel good about using grain alcohol and plastic ... good luck...!!

  • Excellent! Greetings from Staten Island! Where did you get those great bottles?

  • @seattwa We got the bottles at a local brewing supply store , thanks for stopping by...!!!

  • Hi , I enjoyed your orangecello. easy to do and great to drink!

It took me a while to peel the oranges without leaving the white stuff.

Can you please tell me whats the brand name of the excellent potato cutter yiu were using on the video? I looked so easy !!!

  • @bluescenes Any new potato peeler should do , the black one was a rubber maid brand , you just have to get the hang of it and its easy.... good luck...

  • @bluescenes on second thought it may have been a faberware , we used both and they were fine....

  • Does the sugar water act as a catalyst or something? When it was added to the alcohol mixture, the reaction was really cool! Do you know why it turned from a dark orange to a bright, vibrant orange?

  • @AngryLlamaz It's crazy thats what happens , the lemoncello does the same thing , its the best part of makinig the stuff , as to why .... im not sure ....lol...enjoy...!!

  • Salude

  • Another awesome looking recipe. Definitely going to making this.

  • yea! that looks great! thumbs up sir!

  • bowhunter, When you let it sit for 3 weeks and the one week, should it be in a dark room of doesn't it matter?

  • @yankman91 best in a dark cool place , like a basement . if you dont have a basement toss it in a dark closet , it should be fine.

  • @bowhunter2439 hey im in the uk and i cant get grain alcohol, what can i use instead of it? gin or something like that?

  • @TheRaulip High quality vodka is the replacement for grain alcohol , should still come out good....

  • @bowhunter2439 aha cheers looks really good ill have to make some! would it work with grapefruit do you think?

  • @TheRaulip Yes grapefruit , lemons , oranges and limes.... Lemons in my opinion are the best but they all will work , follow the same recipe as the orangecello for a small batch of each....good luck

  • @bowhunter2439 thanks man youe been real helpfull compared to some of the other idiots on face book haha keep up the good brewin

  • @TheRaulip grapefruitcello? not very appealing..but sure why not? lol

  • @kurtYkurt7 already made it and it was good!

  • where the heck does one buy grain alcohol?

  • @shawnio Liquor stores carry it depending on the state ...

  • That sounds like it would be the bomb, nice video!!

  • @pandmonium2k7 Good stufff , you cam use it for lighter fluid too if you run out .....hahaha

  • Wow - that sounds delicious and looks gorgeous too. If I can find the right kind of alcohol, I'm going to try the lemon one first - the tree in the yard is full! :) It doesn't have to be refrigerated? I'm wondering about it as Christmas gifts... Thanks!

  • @thizizliz It does not have to be refrigerated , store it in a cool dark place such as a basment , then put bottle in the freezer 24hrs before serving and then store bottle in freezer after opened ...... you can get grain alcohol in some states like Rhode Island .....and you can substitute grain alcohol with vodka but its not as good ....

  • @bowhunter2439 Thank you! I will do a search and see if it's available in California. Really cool idea.

Good to know about the storage and serving temp - I'll make a tag to go on the bottle as part of the packaging. :) But mostly I can't wait to try it.
