Most places I see ratchet shifters is in drift cars, I can't stand them because for daily driving they are rough and snap your head back, it's like using a manual but not knowing how to drive it! It feels like someone driving a stick, revving up to high and them dumping the clutch every time it shifts. It just lurches all over the place. But for track cars meant for Drag, Drift, or road racing, I can understand the concept, not for D/D tho. But I'll stick with my 6 Speed either way thank you.
Nice...I've never seen Skyline with a ratchet shifter. I assume the switch you are hitting is to go in to overdrive? Have you considered wiring in a pressure switch (air conditioning line pressure switch) to complete the overdrive circuit automatically?

when i had no gear box when i did my rb26 conversion to my r32, i just hooked up the 20det auto box to test how it went. and i think it actually was faster like that, spun up every gear due to no loss in boost. its an algood setup i reckon but yeah its a bit gay sayin u have an auto skyline :/
this thing is sp pointless , the car is not Evan tough enough for it .. listen to how it changes into the gear takes for Eva .. do the engine up a bit more if ur going to put a ratchet shifter in it .. so as soon as u go up a gear, it really gos into that gear instead of going .. mmmmmmm nnnnnnnn an then into the gear ..
the main problem with A/T is that you cannot control the smoothness of a downshift as you can with a clutch (heel and toe very difficult in A/T cars) and that results in stability problems especially on FR setups when you are breaking hard and downshift simultanously however you are right about the advantages in straight line acceleration when the car is standig still (remember the faster you go the bigger is the advantage of a manual car because of the torque loss in an A/T transmission)

@Emeianoite Manual is faster 90% of the time. The ONLY time auto is faster is in 2 and 3 speed top fuel drag cars etc etc.. where the transmission is made to do split second shifts at high rpms. Overall manual is faster.. cause what uses manual transmissions?? Stock cars>> Manual; Rally cars>> Manual; Formula cars>> Manual Hell even dirt track cars are all manual. You can shift whenever you want with manual. auto you have to wait for the right rpm.

@FormulaVeeRacer1200 maybe if you suck at shifting a manual you would be better off with auto. But I, unlike some people, can shift a manual well and hold boost. If your granny shifting and let your rpms drop between shifts then yeah you will lose boost but if you know how to keep rpm up for the split second between shifts you wont have any trouble.
@chevysb400 i know how to shift bud, i race competitively in open wheelers. but no matter how fast u can shift a manual the auto is quicker,i spose there are alot of pos auto cars getting around that take 20mins to shift but its still quicker if its turbo. take my Ford falcon xr6turbo for example.with around 600hp it does low 11's in a stock 6sp sequential auto. the manual version with the same power.well iv seen people run high 12's with over 600hp at the wheels. just getting the power down :D
manual valve body? or are you just choosing to shift...cuz if you put on the manual valve body its actually pretty cool. clutch can get annoying if you want to cruise but people have their own opinion and the with a manual valve body(with a good tranny) work just as well as clutch for performance. i had one on my 72 charger and i used to be able to drop it from 3rd to 2nd on the highway going 55 and smoke the tires. many drag racing cars dont use clutch anyways except for 1st to reach their rpm

Street cars are almost always faster with autos mate its just a fact - its not till you start going back to clutchless manuals like a liberty box do the manuals come out in front again. I will never own an automatic car simply because I enjoy the connection between machine and driver with a manual transmission. HOWEVER, that is not to say automatics are garbage. Fact is, 9 times out of 10 an automatic will be quicker than a manual down the 1/4mile. Like someone else said, different strokes for different folks. An automatic transmission, now a days with the dual clutch gearboxs will shift faster and more precisely than any human could on a traditional manual. It's been proven.

I drive a '98 Z28 and while a manual is entertaining, I like going to the drag strip and there I wouldn't have it any other way than my stalled automatic. I say stall and most folks think I'm talking about the engine dying. Different strokes folks. Different strokes. Not everyones into popping the clutch to rev at the tweeners at Dairy Queen.

yeah its an auto but its fully manualised so it shifts directly with the ratchet shifter, not delayed like a standard auto box with a ratchet shifter on it, I'd prefer a proper manual but you cant argue with the speed of the shifts in a manualised auto....the best for drag racing.
@flinchey all shifts are the other way round on all other sequential setups, just makes sense to pull whan accelerating and push when decelerating, use your own inertia to help you shift.

You are a clown. By him saying the box is fully manualised, it means the the GEARBOX ITSELF will not change gear by itself, as in there is no drive.
All the rachet shifter is, is basically a modified version of your own shifter, being able to lock out reverse etc, change up, down gears, and the shifter will stay in its original spot, rar rar rar etc etc.
this would be s sick car to build right up to launch hard. I love my 5sp r32 but an auto will be faster when modified at the strip because you never loose boost. An auto turbo deisel truck will always beat a 6sp

yeah its an auto but its fully manualised so it shifts directly with the ratchet shifter, not delayed like a standard auto box with a ratchet shifter on it, I'd prefer a proper manual but you cant argue with the speed of the shifts in a manualised auto....the best for drag racing.

B&M makes Automatic ratchet shifters. his transmission is automatic and WILL shift faster than a human can in a manual because of this mod.

Push for up-shift is lame. You should reverse the linkage and PULL for up-shift, push for down.

@flinchey all shifts are the other way round on all other sequential setups, just makes sense to pull whan accelerating and push when decelerating, use your own inertia to help you shift.

Just had to log into abuse you.
You are a clown. By him saying the box is fully manualised, it means the the GEARBOX ITSELF will not change gear by itself, as in there is no drive.
All the rachet shifter is, is basically a modified version of your own shifter, being able to lock out reverse etc, change up, down gears, and the shifter will stay in its original spot, rar rar rar etc etc.

this would be s sick car to build right up to launch hard. I love my 5sp r32 but an auto will be faster when modified at the strip because you never loose boost. An auto turbo deisel truck will always beat a 6sp

This is pointless. Why buy a great car such as the Skyline, if you're going to have an automatic transmission, then put in a ratchet shifter to make it feel like you're doing something?
Just pick up a manual, you'll even put more power to the wheels.

Where in the fuck do you live? I got my license in a F150(Auto) and anything I drive now with my license i'm covered with.. if you live in a place where you have to get two different ones depending on if you're driving a auto or a manuel then im amazed... I would only think shitty 3rd would countries would have shit rules like that.
