This is awesome. I'm actually a beginner but I'm keeping myself inspired by slowly learning songs by amazing bands like Tool. I love Justin Chancellors sound too. this is the first Tool song I'm attempting to learn. This video is really helping me understand how to apply the tab I got off Tooltabs.net. I appreciate it! Thanks :)
(Will be checking out more of your other videos too.)
Thanks for the upload, your tool videos are making things so much easier for me and my band =) I don't think I begin to come as close to that sound you're hitting.
I have two suggestions in case you want to re-record the video. In the 'finger deep witnin the borderline' part, you play 2-10-0-12-0 three times - second time should be 2-10-12-0-12 ('reversed'). In the ending I noticed it changes between E# and E on the low sting and E only on the high string - i.e. not straight up E's.
I find it funny that in tool songs guitar is always is really tricky and requires a lot of practice. but bass in tool songs you can pretty much pick it up straight away
When you play the chorus and you slide down to the 10 and 12, how do you get your strings to not recoil and give you this ugly poing sound? When I try to play it, it drives me crazy. How do you have this deep, crisp tone. ><"
If your strings are buzzing on the fret board that means that your action is too low. Adjust the action so the strings are farther from the fret board.
please explain to me...how did you make the bass sound like that? or is it just the brand of bass? im new at playing and i have no clue so please reply
remiiiiii i know u live on the other side of the world but i think u should know that ur my teacher. Screw tabs i just watch u play and i learn so fast.
im tried of hearing "why the pick....why do you use a pick" SHU THE FUCK UP idiots fucken justin uses a pick its call maybe watch a few videos on him playing god damn dumbasses
I really really like your interpretation of this song. I'm sure you'd heard this a million times, but do you happen to tab this down??? If so, can I please have your tab? I really really like your take on the "light" parts during the bridge. Much better than other tabs.

This video is great man. I like the different parts I didn't get in Brad the toolbassplayer's version. If you wouldn't mind helping me on a few parts of the song? In 2:28 on the high D string are you playing -7-7-3---3-5--14-12? On 2:57 is this on the low D -0-2-3h4--4-5-6h7?( 3:25 through 3:30 you add the extra thumps on the low d. I like that a lot). On 3:36 / 3:40 (and 3:47 through 3:52 I can't tell what you are playing on the low D and A string. Finally 3:51 through 4:19. Thankyou so much!
Have you ever played a Stingray? If so, do you find that your Sterling is more aggressive sounding? I've got a Ray, and am getting a Sterling soon. I love the way your Sterling sounds man. Just awesome.
@DevilsFourString yes I have. these basses are really similar (we can say the same) regarding the sound. The only differences are the splitable pickup, thiner neck on the sterling, and smaller body also.
great job matching the tone. They use really great equipment so most covers cant get it right, but listening to a tool song on poor equipment it like looking at a plaster version of a marble statue, sure you get the form but not the texture. Love it.
the break down you play during the bass solo part in the middle is wrong. Also, leading out of it with the "build up" which you just strum on the E is wrong (he does the breakdown during that part). If you watch the Montreal 1996 video that is on the net it shows this part of the song very well. There are also other minor things but overall good job
omg dude, please play some A Perfect Circle. lol I know you said you didn't plan on it but if you have some extra free time, I'd really like to hear you play it.
if you live in Wisconsin, you may have luck cause that's where i am... GB packers man, even tho the packers suck... except for Jermichael Finley... rofl
thats because the guy in the vid is using an ernie ball music man stingray bass, justin used the same model in recording Aenima, as well as using the famed Wal bass too.
To me, the two most important points are the bass itself and his pick attack. Also he seems like he trusts his ear rather then tabs and binoculars. Another way he gets that tone is he is pretty much exactly with the recording so it (the recording) will add to the tone as well. Good metal bass tone sounds the best when the midrange
"growl" is cutting through the guitar(s). Just one asshole's opinion.
remiiiiiii can you use bass on any amp or do you have to have a bass amp? cause i heard you needed a bass amp because if you use a regualar amp the bass guitar will blow out the speaker?
to add to what he said. you could play on a guitar amp. technically. But, just get a bass amp it is what it is for and in the end it will only fuck up your guitar amp.
what do you mean? He was nice to me even when I critisized his growling on an Opeth cover. I love this cover, but being all mean to him (Toolbassplayer) on remiiiiiii's vid, won't make remiiiiiiii like you more. Or at least I think so :P
Hey, excellent job. I learned almost the whole thing in about half an hour from just watching this a couple times. I have one question, though; Are you in Drop D or a different tuning. I thought the song was in drop d but i have a couple dissonant-sounding notes, might just be the way my setup is though

Is it the strings? I have Elixir strings 50-105.
PolarityArt 8 months ago
@PolarityArt Hi. You mean that when you play it the string goes above your neck ? otherwise I don't understand :D make a video and show me :)
If it's what you mean, just try to press the string straight, and also practice slowly.
Check my profile for the strings brand.
