This has some great parts. The piano part at the opening remind anyone else of the Ligeti piano concerto? That bit at 6:01 is wicked, though it has to be said that the bit which comes before it is weak.
Truly this is a masterpiece but because most of us aren't used to this new style of music we don't like it. The same thing happened when say for example classical or baroque music was introduced. It just takes time to love it.
The shift to classical or baroque was hardly perceived the same way as the shift to contemporary, nor are these shifts comparable on a music theoretical point of view.
In my opinion you may listen to this a thousand time, it will still sound ugly like hell.
but fast music with "jumps" and "surprises" is found in metal, jazz, traditional music, etc. too.
contemporary music is more about translating the composers intentions straight ahead, being not limited by some kind of traditional harmony, rhythm, style, etc. (correct me if I am misunderstood)
True. But "traditional" may not be the right word. It's the "convention" that considered as limits to human (in this case composer) expression. So contemporary music closely related to current philosophy and understanding of human nature, not just "musical" theory. For example, John Cage Chesspiece (if i'm not mistaken the title) explores the feeling of being boring. The feeling of boring it self is the actual aim of the composition.
Unlike Classical music,Contemporary music is so complicated that indeed it is natural for players to play them with a score. But I think, if you really understand the meaning of the music, you can play it without score.
This sounds like what ? objects moving of their own accord .Scientific..It's the world we live in at leasat not something trying to be pretty or cute.the c minor etude parody in it fits well. This music takes a lot for its performers. the orchestral writing is pretty astute ,exact.Glad I know this compoer now.
sei un magnifico musicista anche in questo genere "astratto". l'autore gervasoni, tramite te, diviene certamente interessante, forse di più di altri famosi contemporanei interpretati da famosi pianisti ..
thats one interesting composition, very nice!

I wouldn't call this strictly contemporary music, I would say it's horror music composed in a contemporary way.

I think this is actually really cool piece compared to a lot of contemporary works I see popping up these days.

Not to mention that it is kind of fun to play.
