This was without a doubt the best Spurs team of the Gervin Era.......with Johnnie Moore at point and Artis Gilmore inside...................but still............no match for Showtime.
How did Artis miss the rebound at 6:12? He's all by himself ! Would have had an easy dunk and a win for the Spurs had he grabbed the rebound cleanly. And then after he fumbled the ball (at 6:14), he turns the wrong way. Had he turned toward his left when he finally got control of the board, there was still no Laker between him and the basket.
I remember watching this series. I don't recall the game (it may have been the last one), but Gilmore blocked one of Jabbar's shots late in the game, and then Jabbar came right back to block Gilmore. A classic match-up. Sadly, this was the last hurrah for this group of Spurs. Despite having what looked like a good balance of youth and veterans, they completely fell apart the following year and didn't even qualify for the playoffs. The year after that they lost ot the Nuggets in the 1st round.
They were always a fun team to watch. All the way back to the ABA days they were great. James Silas hurt his knee before he got into the NBA. In the ABA he was more explosive.
RIP MIke Mitchell.

it wasn't his fault, the other guy didn't get the shot off with enough time for a putback.
