Please check his 2 first solo-records from 69 (J.Winter and Second Winter) I still hold them very very deer. Sound corny i know but they really are that good.
Enjoyed listening to Johnny Winter ... cause I love his music!! ... then nice to finally hear some stories from himself ... right: not a guitar lesson, but 'blues' is not only playing the guitar ...
What a legendary player, and a great raconteur to boot.
To Guitar World: Make the fret numbers in your magazine tabs BIGGER, goddammit. I'm 45 now and I've been buying your mag off & on for 30 years. Who do you think is primarily interested in learning complex guitar tunes? These baggy-assed shorts-wearing punks who're into today's "bands"?
if this doesn´t give you some kind of "bluesy" feeling and inspire you but raise lots of useless thoughts instead you shouldn´t play anything at all ;-)
Johnny Winter is *TOPS* I have 30 Johnny Winter Albums=[ Some have Johnny and Edgar Winter on the Covers ] He Has quite a Body of Work=When Rick Derringer was doing a Concert Here In FT MYERS FL..I ask him who taught who on their *Johnny Winter Live Albums * and he Satd they taught each other...Hmmmmmm ?
anyone who disliked this video probably listens to rap i normally dont comment on things but where do u friggin people come from u just hate on everything go listen to pdiddy or puffdaddy or pdiddly or whatever hes callin himself today
If you don't pick up on the lesson provided by Johnny here, you should do yourself and the world a favor and put down your guitar and never pick it up again. Ever.
Weell, if One listens---- he is telling U about how he took lessons from other Musicians-------quit picking on Johnny...Hey,...." he ain't heavy-----he's my Brother !"
It's a lesson, kids. If you listen. This is the SOUL part of playing. Go to Guitar World if you want to learn to be just a mechanical player. Johnny's talking about HIS lessons.....with the greats. This part of playing is about LISTENING....and learning. Put your punk attitude aside, and shut up and learn from a master. Peace.
The Best Of The Best alive today !Jimmy,Freddy and Johnny are the guys all the overrated English Cats wish they could play Like! lONG lIVE tHE gREAT jOHN Dalton Winter!
"giv the man some food", har har. That was nearly funny. The man is a legend, and an artist that shows the possibilities of the guitar, and he has a place in my heart FOREVER
I picked it up and learned it, never took a lesson in my life, i listened to all people, i'm 54 , leave Johnny alone, he could kill your little ass on stage, and yes i just got 2 knee replacments, 2 fuckin years of hell, for 42 years of jumpin around and playin loud, try me i'll prove it, Johnny rules, live at 55 i guess, keep on rockin youngns, i'll be around for awhile, and i can make him proud, for sure! (:
Great interview..so good to see Johnny still has his wits about him, considering what he's been through. Look at those fingers..long and whispy. Damn...they could span the fretboard of a 6-string BASS ! YOU GO, Johnny, GO !!!
I just bought Johnny's autobiography "Raisin' Cain" and am about halfway through. His story of playing with BB King is in there. Recommend it if you want to know about Johnny at all...
Wow. Father Time has not been kind to this guy. A legend for sure, but a hard life on the road has taken it's toll. Thumbs up for Johnny boy, thumbs down for GW. THis is an interview.
All you idiots who are not interested in listening to a legend player talking about his roots should shut the f*ck up, should not be titled "guitar lesson" though i agree.
@willminnock learn some goddamn music theory and you wont need a lesson. i guess some ppl just want every thing handed to them on a silver platter. lack of respect makes for a shitty guitar player. all the tutorials in the world wont teach you how to play with FEELING. but a lttle humility is the foundation of great musicians. dont be lazy learn to transcribe and train your ear, tutorials are fine and can save you some time but relying on them will hurt your abilities in the long run.
@forbes1905 was that seriously ment to be directed at me? i know plenty of theory, probably more than most guitarists and i've worked hard to get to where i am as a guitarist but that's not even relevant. i looked at this video to see was there something i could pick up from him that can't be written down in musical terms that i could add to my playing, but instead what i got was an interview which doesn't help me at all. plus take some of your own advice-your 42 favs are tutorials!
@willminnock i apologize for the harshness of my comment and the language used. i was out of line by being so harsh. as far as having tutorials as my favorites as i said in my previous comment. tutorials are fine, i do check out alot of tutorials to kind of give me an idea of how other ppl transcibe and how they apply their different styles into the songs, but i certainly dont rely on them. i am perfectly capable of picking most songs out by ear and by theory.
@willminnock reading back over my reply it does sound awful preachy, and i apologize for that as well. wonder what time it was when i made that comment. i am an insomniac and often go 3 or 4 days at a time without sleep. during those times i experience intense personality shifts.but that still is no excuse for being such a dick.sorry about that, dude.and the title of this vid is more than just a little misleading. but for free, i guess one cant complain.ididlikelistening to johnny's stories tho.
@forbes1905 alright fair enough man. no big deal. yeah i like listening to interviews and ppls stories too but this came up in my subscriptions as a lesson or whatever and i was hoping to see him playing something even tho i hadn't heard of him until this vid. hope you get that insomnia sorted out, but maybe one positive you can take away from it is you have more time to play guitar :)
@willminnock thanks for the kind words man, yea im trying to get my sleeping probs worked out, tried several prescription meds but the side effects were worse than the insomnia plus i think its mostly a psycological thing, so i am working on focusing my mind and improving my health through diet and lifestyle. but yeah i do get alot of guitar playing in all hrs of the night. its funny i will start playing a song alot of times and i have know idea how i learned it, sometimes dont even know what..
@willminnock the song is called or who played it. lol, anyways thanks for being so underastanding and forgiving. peace, and best of wishes in your guitar playing and other endeavors. :)
the full lenght version of this interview with the real 'guitar lesson' from Mr Winter, the real US national treasure and living legend of blues was uploadad on June 12 here on YouTube.Pls.check yourself.
@ThisIsNasa yeah everybody complain about "this is not a lesson" and I say what this guy have, you can´t learn it from a video.... so this is lesson of life.
Saw Mr. Winter at Crossroads this summer... Unfortunately, he hasn't got it anymore.. He can hardly play... It was a sad sight... I love him and his contribution to music, but there comes a time when you gotta hang 'em up...
Each month, I dutifully buy Guitar World & I really enjoy the magazine, but they REALLY need to work on the TITLES of the Videos they post! I mean, do they really NOT care, or are the people there that STUPID? Will somebody PLEASE show me where the FUCK the "Lesson" is in this Video? Sure, I can grab the CD-ROM that comes with each issue, but watching here is a LOT easier!
I swear, between this CRAP and that fucking TWIT, Paul, who reviews new gear for GW, I don't know which I HATE more.
@312chicagoadam This is basically a commercial for the actual lesson, the name is to make people aware that this is just the talking part of the actual lesson
@joniiboy Exactly! Now I see that they have added "PART 1," which was not there, before. It just gets so old after a while. By the way, this is chicagoadam! I could not respond with that account because GW blocked me! LOL! I only repeated what BOTH of the HIGEST RATED comments had stated; just in my own "special way." Judging by what they print in their interviews & whatnot (including swear words and PLENTY of drug references), I am surprised that they were offended by MY language.
At first I thought his one eye was screwed but get to part 2 you see them both open..I think this was done early in the morning and he was probably just tired and kept one eye closed to stay awake. He also has more pep in him the second part of the interview..I honestly think he was just tired.
