  • god bless maggie thatcher

  • whats with all the cops?

  • @saphireroze001 the miners in the 80's, maggie thatcher tried to close all the mines down i think and the miners weren't happy so they protested and rebelled.

  • I love how Tony tell that little kid to get inside...it shows his softer, protective side :D

  • Milk snatcher!!!

  • This always makes me want to join a riot lmao.

  • The cause of all this was the late 70.s,& who was in power then!

  • Ive never seen this movie, i've been dieing to, but haven't yet. Y was that guy being chased?

  • it was the durham mining strike when riot police were everywhere and were free to beat protesters into a pile.

true story coming from a durhamite. you have to see this movie; durham's realy like that...

  • Back the Miners

  • A.C.A.B. !!!

  • Unfortunatley this is very true to life of antagonistic attitude in the eighties-there was a lot of unrest and unjust and a hell of a lot of people suffered, also in the prisons as well(selective blindness)-i think it is much worse today because these powers have been "restricted" due to the "human rights" issues that abound today ...

  • when he drinks the tea haha

  • ultra mega cool.

  • true history in 80's

  • why are there lots of police men dressed with boards and stuff?

  • Because there suppose to be riot police attacking the miners.

  • Amazing movie so sad tho!!!!

Billy is a future hottie for sure!!!

  • You do know that Jamie Bell (Billy) is the guy in the Green Day video, Wake Me Up When September Ends don't you?

Just because he is a bit older in that video is all

  • he also played in Jumper

  • XD When i saw the film i went all hyper on my friends saying "OMG its billy elliot!" they didnt even know who he was so i stopped jumper and made them watch billy elliot instead...-.-,

  • right on!

  • i have tht film on my ipod coz of jamie bell XD

  • i haven't seen this movie... what's going on? i get the coal miners strike part, are they just randomly beating the protesters or what?

  • every day the miners go on strike but i think this time it goes out of hand and the guy that gets hit by the horses is billys brother

  • see the movie it will make you cry

  • how true.

  • hello im french and i would like understand its real in the past fight with polizei?

  • YES

  • Tu fais allemand ???...

    police et non polizei.....

Oui tout cela s'est passé !.....

    renseigne toi si ça t'intéresse....

moi je suis anglophile rt j'ai 16 ans

  • Yes, and the police used to roam the street at night like wild animals beating up drunk miners. Cowards.

  • And I do believe some miners stood on a bridge over a motorway throwing concrete slabs on to passing motorists , someone died. hmmm hypocracy

  • Look, lets not get to heavy. If anyone did do what you say, lock him up. Totally wrong and i would never condone this terrible act. The police DID beat up drunk miners at night. The Police are supposed to uphold the law, not beat up innocent possibly defenceless people. Anyway, did you enjoy the film?

  • WTF the police were fucking ruthless back in the thatcher years. if u were in the way u were gunna get batterd. they were gunna close all thew mines so they all went on strick or somin like tht and wen they did picket lines and demonstrations this happend.

  • no it was beacuse thatcher closed 20 unprofitable mines and i think the poice have been exagurated here i mean they did attack the miners but it was the riot police.

but pushing over old people i think is made up

  • dont just say, the mines were unprofitable, ask yourself why they were unprofitable and youll see thats thatchers fault aswell.

  • they were unprofitable beause digging out the coal would cost more than selling it

  • not at all. coal was always a very valuable ommodity, but after the first defeat of the unions to thatcher, she made the miners work longer shifts for less pay. this made all surrounding coal mines in europe, australia etc make their workers work for longer and for less. and in the end we couldnt compete with the market that we [thatcher] had created.

  • yes the mines were making money but these 20 werent she didnt close the entire mining industry in one go

but the problem was the union leader at the time was a communist

plus gas was starting to appear on the scene

  • This was back in 1984, it really did happen.

  • aay caray! si tiene subtitulos en chino jeje

  • That film rocked!

Saw it during english a few weeks ago.

  • <3 this song and Town called Malice

  • The Clash is awesome!

  • the film is brilliant and the songs LONDON CALLING and TOWN CALLED MALICE are more brilliant!!!

  • well they have mixed that up havnt they the song i mean lol

actually, i just saw the movie again ^^

  • This scene is my favorurite one ever, any movie. It's just amazing.

  • brilliant song

  • great song

  • London Calling works great but White Riot would been better though

  • A small depiction of Maggies legacy.

  • Small? This is an epic film and an epic scene, may be a small depiction of a bigger one, but still intense.

  • Speaking of Maggies...the following is a poem by a 13 year old, living in Southern England, when the miners' strike was on; although it didn't affect his life directly, he saw it on the news every day and wrote this poem in his English class. Should have sent it to Maggie (The Superior) 23 years ago - maybe she would have liked it?

(see next message for the poem)

  • (poem Part 1 of 2)

    The Battle

    The fuel flows out

    At a terrific rate,

    Until The Superior

    Wipes the slate,

    Pack up and go,

    It costs too much.

    But the people are angry,

    And weapons they clutch.

  • (poem part 2 of 2)

    They battle against

    The army in blue

    And wonder in horror,

    What Superior will do?

    Then suddenly she speaks,

    Put in his head.

    The blade slides down,

    And Scargill is dead.

P.S. The English teacher wrote " I'm not sure what to say to this! "

  • Quite a powerful poem, made more remarkable by the fact it was written by a child. Had he posted it to Maggie, it would have been a waste of a stamp. The woman was long ago embalmed with ice water and good poetry has no impact upon the heartless.

  • ganesh64, thanks for the comment

  • fucking copper bastards. my old man was one of those poor blokes on strike. f*uck the scabs an all

  • I love this film and this scene is one of my favourite. This song is perfect to the scene. It makes me want to fight with this miners.

  • wow i love that movie! thats my favourite part! billy brothers not bad lookin, :P lol

  • GOOD SCENE!

  • This shows how the state will use workers in uniform to batter fellow workers into submission.Nationalisation what a con trick, genuine socialism has not failed its never been tried. Our day will come.

  • The mines have all gone, quickly demolished. The old colliery houses are still standing though? But at least no more generations of young men will have to spend their lives down a dirty stinking pit.Workers Of All Lands Unite.

  • I love it when the horses ride by in slow motion, and Billy looks down...

  • MINT SCENE

  • lol this brings bak memorys when i was a kid that bitch maggie fachett put my dad and his mates out of work so they rioted lol quite scary for me since i was a kid like billy and micheal

  • good scene

  • I thnk the point of him jumping through houses isnt for the comedic sense. Well, really. this is a mining town. Its a tight knit community. The purpose, I think, is to prove that they're helping him.

though, the drink part is pretty damn funny. Tea makes everything ebtter.

  • great clip, thanks
