  • How do you know when the peppers have been on the plant TOO long?

  • @nork3 If its already made the change from green to red..its time to get it off the plant. Otherwise, the next step is shriveling up.

  • How do you know when they are ready to pick?

  • @nork3 You can pick peppers at almost anytime. Its just a matter of how you want them. If you want these to be red, ya gotta wait another few weeks. I try to get them off the plant so more can grow. Red or green, they taste about the same to me.

  • he got good videos good harvest vids as well

  • grow weed!

  • @infringinator Oh sure, and give that chopper a reason to be flying around my property ! :-)

  • @mhpgardener you could definately grow anything Mr. Farmer!

  • my peppers have been on the plant for weeks now but they are just not expanding, they look like massive chillis!! im pretty sure they are bell peppers but why arent they opening up?

  • @FookedOutMeFace I'm not sure. I've had some that developed quite well, and others that just stayed flat. No reason for the difference as far as I can tell.

  • one of my chilie plants in my room is 3 years old and I have had about 300 chillies.

  • @johnburton799 Whoa..3 years? That is too cool. Lots of questions...what variety, how often do you feed it, are you using grow lights, do you prune it? LOL..... you opened the door, I just had to walk thru ! ;-)

  • @mhpgardener It is a birds eye chilli It gets no food apart from chicken manure when it looks sad. It dose not get pruned and there are no grow lights . the secret with chilli plants is neglect, I think. they can grow in the most cramped spaces and still produce allot of chillies.

  • Love the red ones! keep them on long enough they always change .. you are so organized it makes me sick.. just kidding! I am really inpressed actually, great pepper harvest Bobby..:)

  • @dianemummvideos They seem to turn red much faster in the GH. Any idea why ? Me Organized ? Thats an oxymoron if there ever was one ! Thx Diane. ;-)

  • @mhpgardener , probably because of the heat.. peppers love heat, and they are maturing faster because of it , that would be my guess anyways..

  • I like how organized you are with the numbers...Maybe give them names, cause they are your kids you know lol. Great stuff.

  • @foofarters LOL, thx....I do have names for some of the maters. And yes, I do talk to them. "Good morning boys and girls !"... seeing them day in and day out, you really get used to them. Sad to see them go at times, but then I just start something new.

  • Your peppers look small, is it the variety? 50 is an awful lot for one plant, you probably wont get over 25 off one plant at a time. Id be more interested to get large consistent harvests rather then one big harvest, 15 peppers per plant would be good.

  • @astrialkil Cali Wonders, this picking is smaller than the last ones. We had a discussion awhile back about how many peppers a given plant would produce in a season. Most were suggesting a couple dozen or so. So I figured just go for the round # of 50. Should be easy enough. No way anybody is picking 50 at one time, and 25 is unlikely for most folks. It may be possible on a vigorous plant, with plenty of sunlight. I have some Camelots that might do it. What kind do u grow ?

  • @mhpgardener Last year i tried Walmart wonders(cheap seed packets), they all died, I was using a homemade grow box with potting soil. mold grew in the soil, it was water logged. This year I'm using miracle grow potting Mix and Marconi peppers. They are longer then bell peppers and nearly as thick. Maybe ill get something this year.

  • Great harvest, good luck on the 50 pepper goal.....Donald

  • @webcajun Thx D. I need to get some of those maters out of the way that are engulfing the first 7 pepper plants. Since they are in ground, I expect them to do much better in a month or so when the maters are done. The Camelots are coming along pretty good. Might get a "biggest pepper" out of them ;-)

  • right on i think you have one of the best looking greenhouse's i have seen keep up the good work :-)

  • @MrVTHILLBILLY Thx man ! This was my way of prepping...getting prepared to grow food in the winter time. I wasn't sure at first...but it CAN be done ! And its actually easier than dealing with the complications of summer..like drought, storms, bugs, varmits..really a cool deal.

  • wow, amazing!!! I hope mine produce like that this summer since we didnt have much luck with yield last year. Any tips on how you get them to produce like that would be appreciated. :)

  • @saritasgarden Thx.. Patience, patience, patience, and warm temps. Once they start producing, they can go on for a long time if they are healthy plants. Much like tomatoes, BER can be a problem, so make sure they get the Ca and Mg,,,,and not too heavy on the N, as too much nitrogen can also cause BER. In the end, it all comes back to the soil that you're growing in. Good soil means healthy plants which equals stuffed peppers !

  • @mhpgardener thanks!! I will definitely get to working on some TLC for my pepper plants :)

  • You are an amazing gardener I bet it's the kind heart :) Blessings!

  • @BexarPrepper Thx Bexar....I'm not sure about the amazing part, but I'm certainly trying. On the kind heart, I'll have to agree with you 100% ! Just don't tell anybody ! hehe

  • @mhpgardener You don't have to tell it shows :)

  • Oh my gosh!! Those are amazing pepper plants!!

  • @loislaney23 Thx Lois. They are about 6 months old right now. Several of them would have been much bigger, but if you look back to Dec and Jan, I had half the plants in small pots..root bound and begging for room. Thats one mistake I constantly dealt with. I will try harder to keep everything in a container of whatever size necessary to allow for constant growth. And if these can deal with the high heat of a summer GH, they should make it to one year old !

  • I mean one good size compost bin in each corner of the greenhouse.

  • @catfishchic Thx CFC. A compost pile is something I've considered, but I can't see it being able to generate the necessary BTU's to maintain the temps. It would take a LOT of compost. It might work in a passive solar GH though, where the North wall and both ends are sealed and insulated. The plans for the next one are changing each day, as I'm seeing how the first one deals with the warmer daytime temps. Its gonna be about 24 x 60..give or take !

  • Hey Bobby, those are some fantastic bells that you got there. :) I seem to remember you saying something about wanting a bigger greenhouse. If you could get one, how much bigger would it be? Would it be big enough to where you could use two compost stacks on each end to warm it up instead of the wood stove? That would be cool. Thanks, Catfishchic

  • That was a great harvest! I always follow along, can't help myself! Got to see whats around the next plant/:-) Your wife did great, she took us on a little roller coster ride. But it was fun. Great video!!!!

  • @mmlrc6atgmailcom Thx Misty! It was longer than I wanted, but I couldn't pick but so fast. She did good for her first time. I started to edit out the drunk driving part, but figured it was kinda funny, so I left it. And with so many varieties of tomatoes, you're right, you never know what's around the next plant ! ;-)

  • Bobby, those bell pepper plants are amazing! Do you freeze them to eat for later or end up giving them away? I love stuffed bell peppers. Your tomatoes are looking great too. Cudo's to the new camera operator. Hope she had a great Mothers Day!

  • @jwlrymkr Since I have a seemingly endless supply, these will be given away. The last batch was dried and stored away, for a rainy day. Everything has done so well in there. I am amazed at the whole deal myself. Yea, the camera operator had a nice day, planted a few more flowers of course ! You guys hang in there, we're still praying for ya !

  • WOW! Your green house is looking better with each video can't wait to see which plant gets the highest!

  • @knyquol Looks a lot different without the stove in there. That old girl, the Rutgers, will be the tallest one. The rest will get to the top and I will cut them off. Vera's Ponderosa was the first one to get cut off. She just raced to the plastic.

  • Amazing. I dub thee King of Bell Peppers and Tomatoes. You sure know how to grow them. It must be all those love you've put into growing them.

  • @4GreenEarth2 Haha..They do get a tremendous amount of attention, thats for sure. I also leave the radio on for them :-) Now..if I can just get Mr. Moringa to join the festivities !

  • Wow! That was a good haul! Now what do you do with all of them?

  • @mediamaker2000 Thx, These will be given away to friends and family. The last picking was dehydrated and vac sealed for long term storage.

  • Darn my pepper plants are maybe an inch or two tall. Going to take the computer down to my basement and show my peper plants what they can grow up to look like. :-)

  • @Allen2045 LOL

  • @Allen2045 I bout spit my cookies all over the place on that one ! Too funny. Yours will be fine. These have been grwoing all winter..slowly...but still growing. They kicked it in gear the last couple of months. I expect them to keep growing till the fall, then I'll decide what to do with them.
