When I first saw the covers in my moms collection, I was floored..I didnt know black women could be so sexy without being trashy! Still going to do one of these poses (honey and all) for my own personal use!
All I can say is ... I remember my bro playing this song on a reel-to-reel player. OMG ~ that was high-technology at the time - albeit a short-lived technology as far as I know, Nonenetheless, I will NEVER forget this song or what I was doing at the time either! :)
Skating at Northland, and skateland...chillin at belle isle....Detroit Nupe was just a kid....Now n DC...also HU Grad...but we know why the "D" is famous....Big ups to the U of D High...
@ecbattles88 OMG! Your comment is priceless! I've never beenn married or even dated that but now - thanks to you - I know what to do when it's time for them to get to steppin! LOL! Good thing I just recently bought Ohio Players Greatest hits
Hey ,I was just four years old when this came out ..my daddy was the DJ for the whole neighborhood. He had every album and 45 you could think of...Ohio Players was among them. One of the coolest groups !!! Ran Ran
immediately out of high school, that summer before starting the fall semester at MSU (Memphis State) a guy we called Hokie-Wolf ran a combination crap-house/ smoke-house in the Bunker-Hill section of Memphis, and this must have been the only album he had...cause I must have heard this song and that album at least 5,000 times there alone...! but time marches on, most of the old gang has faded-away (literally) and The Wolf has been in and outta the joint repeatedly... but I still love this album
@MsBklynstar Their album covers ushered me through puberty. Me and my first girlfriend used to sit on her couch listening to this album holding hands. Then one night she fell asleep with her head on my shoulder. 34 years later I still feel her head on my shoulder whenever I reminisce about our innocence. This song is the soundtrack to my reverie. Bless her and Bless the Ohio Players.
I remember buying Ohio Players albums but because of the pictures of these super sexy black women,I hid them in my other albums or my mom would have done something ridiculous like, throw them out! I was just a kid with excellent taste in music! What can I say?

This is one of the great funk groups out of Dayton Ohio. Amongest the many funk groups out of Dayton Ohio. Dayton OH has some great music talent. That was a time when musicians regardless of your musical style, you had to be a master of your instrument. And read music well. These were some special years. Never will see the 70's again. Miss that time.
ppl need too free themselves of the drama that goes on in their life...life to short...I want to be free.... I'm free.......eliminating all the bullshit including ppl....

umm I brought myself here...My dad used to kill their "Fire" album...I remember being so young, I would sneak and listen to their album...If you didn't know, back then their album covers were consider to be "risky"....To this day this is still my favorite song off that album...
This is the Jam! No Drum machines here!~ ~ it took real skills to do Drums like this!~Another one of my favorites !~Heaven must be like this ,the flip side to this one!~meaning the Two jams that they touched on the highlighting the good and bad side of love! and they DIDI IT RIGHT~ Can i get a RIGHT ON!~Hey fellas if you meet a fifty something beautiful woman and she's still single and no kids! let me suggest you get as far ! and as fast as you can from that crazy bitch !~Can i be free? Man i was a freshman at Ohio University when this album came out :D. Man what a time we were having. Thank god i was from Cleveland where real players are born.
I remember all those shitty AKA's what a bunch of sluts...
The70's..... such a beautiful time for black culture & music.....Women were respected, social commentary, the message was love, Good Times, What's Happening, The Jeffersons, Flip Wilson, Sanford and Son, Naturals were cut tight, Soul Train Saturday Mornings, J5, Muhammad Ali, SOUL Brotha, Right on!!!....Shaft, Foxy Brown, Super Fly, Ice Cream truck in the hood, Afro pick with the Black Power salute on the end....BLACK WAS BEAUTIFUL!!....Lets get it back!! Man this is the best music in history. They don't make music like this anymore, no B's and H's in this music. I grew up with this music (born in 64) so I know we had the best of times with this music. Thank you Unsung for bringing these guys on and letting the world know who the Ohio Players are.

"You don't know how it makes me feel child, to be able to walk away from your smile, yes I can and I'm going to be all right after awhile, I think the Lord done gave me the strength now." This jam used to be played in the dorms at EMU whenever someone would break up with their significant other.......if not "Free" then it was Millie's Jackson's breakup jams........MAN I MISS THE 70'S......that's when the best R&B was created !!!!
@PaulGreen GOT DAMN man i'm so sorry. If that was me i would have kept you. She was nothing but a hoe, sorry to say it but its true. All they want is your money, as soon as you wanted to spend time with her she started to act funny huh. smh
@StarDust062: Thanks, Star! I gave this woman everything I had. I quit my federal job, moved across country, and was loyal to her beyound reason. She cheated on me and had the nerve to tell me about it. I can only thank God Im not behind bars now. Someone may ask, "What did you do to her." I Swear to God; All I did was go to work and come back home Everyday for 5 years. I asked her to go out on dates with me, she wouldnt go. But she found time to spend out all nite with her mother.
Yeah man, so like I was thinking about my name and I want it to be like razor sharp, like it could almost cut somebody and then it hit me after looking up at this neon sign that like totally blew up because the name was just so powerful...........DIRK DIGGLER!!!

"You don't know how it makes me feel child, to be able to walk away from your smile, yes I can. And I'm gonna be alright after awhile, I think the Lord done me the strength now. I'm gonna be free" Best break up song EVER written. Sugarfoot was a 70's genius ! I just had to second these comments.

THIS SONG BRINGS THE MEMORIES, SOME I WISH HAD NEVER HAPPENED. THERE IS A LADY IN UTAH THAT I AM SO SORRY I PLAYED THIS SONG FOR. MAG THIS POST IS FOR YOU, ONLY I WISH I WASN'T FREE,,,,,,,,,,,FROM YOU,,,,,,,,GIRL I STILL LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@MrFunkyatfifty I feel you. Kinda reminds me of a time when I slipped up and let this girl hear Morris Day's "Don't Wait For Me" when I'd left the room. Our relationship was a done deal after that.
lol, recently, my little sister told me to really listen to these lyrics, and I finally did, and I was crackin UP!!!! LOL I thought this was a peaceful and beautiful song and he talkin bout gettin away from a crazy woman
@bun223 - That's they knew how to communicate thoughts with class (hint, hint dedicker100). But, when did someone decide it wasn't cool to write songs like this? Guys used to like this music because it said what some of them didn't know how to express.
I love this song. The drum solo intro is so sick and the lyrics are on point! It is so typical of 70s funk!

I dedicate this song to the love of my lifetime and soon to be ex-wife, Debra Angelique, "...and now I think I can put you out of my life."

MrFunkyatfifty 1 year ago
@MrFunkyatfifty I feel you. Kinda reminds me of a time when I slipped up and let this girl hear Morris Day's "Don't Wait For Me" when I'd left the room. Our relationship was a done deal after that.

@bun223 - That's they knew how to communicate thoughts with class (hint, hint dedicker100). But, when did someone decide it wasn't cool to write songs like this? Guys used to like this music because it said what some of them didn't know how to express.
