First of all, I am not blaming her parents for anything because there was no one at fault--you yourself made that assumption and connection. If so... you are ignorant. The french never did much to harm the Vietnamese, it's the Viet Giang, who translated bad and then led to confusion.

Language was hard for French soldiers, so they used Viet Giang to translate for them, thus led to false translation. When this happened, Viet Giang abused their right to translate and accuse people they hate. Lots of innocent died

The French remodeled roads, bridges, built churches and etc...

Anyways, I believe they helped industrialize much of Vietnam. Now the tin and rubber part, yes I agree on that. They infact leeched it out of us but more importantly treated us like crap. I'm not sure if the industrialization is an "accident," but I'm pretty sure they funded and gave ideas somewhat that eventually led to the creation of those.
