Does anyone else miss TNN and all the great programs like this with all the true legendary artists? Even when Garth Brooks and the new country revolution came busting through, they always stayed true to the legendary artists that paved the road. I sure wish TNN was still broadcasting. So very sad...
@marlowman Yes and no. There's more than one way to sing a country song. Elvis C. is an Irish troubadour. His singing style is more than just pop. He shares the Celtic heritage of the music of the South and the Appalachians. The Scots and the Irish brought their jigs, laments, ballads and protest songs with them to America.
I was reading about George Jones just the other day, there were interviews from other performers... when asked who they thought was the most talented recording artist- Keith Richards answered "George Jones", Elvis Costello says the same. Frank Sinatra jokingly answered "George Jones is the (second best) American singer"- Waylon Jennings said "If we could all sound like we wanted, we'd all sound like George Jones".
Wow. I came here as an Elvis Costello fan, and I'km leaving a George Jones fan too. It's really clear what an influence he's been on Elvis as a songwriter. This is great!!

Cool clip.
I like how Elvis costello is turning on a new generation of listeners to good stuff.
Somebody ought to say it, though: Elvis is no way a country singer.
His strangulated high end and mannered tremolo are the stuff of pop. He's more like the current pop-country acts.
I know I'll get slammed for saying that... but you know it's true.
