I have great reverence for the laws and teachings of Judaism. But I really recommend you folks put your pride down and look into Islam. I have a few friends who were Jewish and now Muslim. Mikveh is a Hebrew word. The word is mikveh, not mikvah. It is not a word like mitzvah or michyah or milgah but is like mivneh or mikneh or mikreh. The source of the word is in Genesis 1:10. The music on the soundtrack is by Beethoven, originaly for piano, a piece called For Elise.

Actually, I take back my comment in response to breeeegs (from a year ago no less!) I see what he meant I think. The symbolisim and meaning of the Mikveh and Baptisim are worlds apart in their spiritual signifigance and effect (depending on the sect). Still I personally sense some "historcal connection" of some sort since early Christianity is derived from Judaism. Shaloam.

A mikvah is a bath house. It is used for spiritual purification. The final step in conversion to Judaism is immersion in a mikvah. After using one you are like a new person starting life again.

What goes on is that a person who wants to become spiritually cleansed gets washed, shampooed and so forth and then walks down the steps into the water of the mikvah. He bends so that he is covered completely by the water three times. And then you can come out and dry off and go home. Going into the waters of the mikvah is a final step in traditional conversion to Judaism. Think of it as similar to baptism.
