  • I think Photonic has one similar to this that he'll be putting up on eBay.

  • will it get hot from the arc?

  • @360fatcats It heats up the pool of mercury in the vessel.

A large cooling fan underneath the vessel will cool the rectifier.

The fan is not visible on the video as the rectifier is in a locked room

  • I could watch those roaming cathode spots all day...

  • I have one of these, was thinking I should get the mercury out and sell it as a sculpture

  • @brittlemind If complete try to sell complete on fleebay or donate it to a museum.

If you take the mercury out, be careful as it is poisonous, google for safe disposal of the Hg.

  • @HDXFH I put a Wikepedia link in the introduction text

  • I absolutely love these type of rectifiers.

If only I understood how they worked

  • @cheeseboat15 They are truly amazing pieces of equipment

  • Jammer dat je niet ziet hoeveel stroom deze kan leveren.

  • @BarneySaysHi A couple of 100 Ampères. Often 2 or 3 trams running of it at the same time.

  • @BarneySaysHi Rated at 675 kW, about 1200 Ampères at 550 Volts.
