  • Yonder is a southern Americanism meaning far away or over there. Probably a corruption of the word beyond.

  • My dear Grandma had this single. First record I learned the lyrics to. I lived in Liverpool at the time I heard it and the Beatles were just becoming locally. They were over my head at the time due to my young age. The second lyrics I learned was the b side Fractured :)

  • luv it , one can almost see the rope petticoats flaring out ...... an Aussie .

  • Love the song but whats a Yonder? No one in new Orleans uses that term. It's a real country term. I thing it means "over there", yes?

  • omg, sucks... its an isult to the original jazz song.. noob musicians?... YES

  • @yago2br Wowie..you're a 'true' jazzer.╭∩┐(︶︿︶)┌∩

  • @PAULLONDEN

I concur. It's the first rock record with a full Dixieland brass, so it actually did jazz a favor. Great New Orleans R&B from a guy second only to Fats Domino in the pre-Beatles era as far as that scene went.

  • @dogkelp Yeah, I actualy meant to say that I'm crazy about the brass section here. it's a glorious noise.

  • @TheDiddlysquat He's alive & well & living in Tarzana, CA.

  • kool mates

  • Fantastic - thia and Palisades Park - your turning this 75 yr. old back into a late teen. Here I am rockin' in front of the computer.

  • Hear that piano! Great!

  • This wasn't really considered Rock but Rock & Roll, To me the difference is R&R was danced by a couple & Rock was danced alone or not a all. Peace via Music. VIVA MARIA!

  • ....take an old song add Dy-No-Mite created by Slay/Crewe and BOOM!!! WOW !

  • from the 60's.

  • does anyone know if Freddie Boom Boom Cannon every had a no i hit. I love this song great band back up.

  • Freddy Cannon for ever

  • He was on American Bandstand more then any other performer, an amzing 42 times.

  • I like Freddy Cannon music even though I know some real r & r purists call it a

dogshit music.Of course this is an old jazz standard from the origin like so

    many Freddy´s records.

Freddy is now livin´in Tarzana, Ca?

  • Creoled ladies with flashy eyes!

  • 1960 was the year. The era of rock 'n' rolling around the Jukebox. Where have all the jukeboxes gone?

  • Freddie rocks, anyone ever see him on Burt Sugarmans Midnight Special with Andy Kaufman?

  • great representation of what early 60's rock really was.

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whoooooooooooooooooo

  • the b-side ("fractured") was even better!

  • Here here Hajune!

  • This song and Palisades Park are excelllent examples of early sixties rock.

  • It is hard to believe Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon is not in the hall of fame . He had over 30 top 40 hits and was on Dick Clark's American Band stand MORE then any other performer (42 times). What an over sight. Put "BOOM BOOM" in the Hall Of Fame for Pete sake!

  • @hajune great comment.... the hall of fame is completely bogus. they have left out so many deserving artists and inducted so many that don't belong there, i don't know how they can sleep at nite..........they are so afraid to recognize any artist that is not part of the clique and not "musically correct"..........sure freddy cannon's songs were pretty "light", but so what......the man's track record speaks for itself -as you pointed out.. everybody loved him. good time, good fun, rock n roll...

  • Credit also due to the incredible arrangement and production

(and playing) by Frank Slay and Bob Crewe.

    Check the horn arrangements......

  • Thank You For Posting; another musical predecessor to 'Nordic/Black Metal' music, including hard-edge vocals, intense bass-drum work, and ultra melody, all very Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem, and Cradle of Filth.

    Cheers!

    Valkyrie Ziege Mourne

  • Like "hjdnad" this was the 1st record I bought!!

The B side, if my memory is correct, was "You Got Me Fractured".

Any hope of this appearing, BladeSteve2007?

    Thanks for the memory.

  • 1959 was the best and most Memorable yr of my Life! Thanks Freddie, And all the other artists of that Genre.

  • Like many teens of my advanced years, I remember this record on the Top Rank lable in the uk. I drove everyone mad playing it over andover. This is the first time (can you believe it?) I have heard it in Stereo. It's even better. Thanks for posting

  • Hello Doug,

Pleased you like the sound ... it's not true stereo but a big improvement on the original mono. It's a technique I've perfected using a couple of sound editors and I love to enhance old mono recordings in this way.

I have a folder full of songs I've edited such as Chuck Berry - 'Johnny B Goode', Moody Blues - 'Go Now' and Ned Miller - 'From A Jack To A King'

  • @BladeSteve2007

Sounds like they're in a tunnel. Do something of your own.. Go for originality.

That's me playing guitar on this recored. You just messed it up.

    JR

  • @xqpod111 I gotta agree. Stereo is totally misunderstood and misused by many people. As hard as it is to explain to people, real life is in MONO (our ears aren't far enough apart to give THAT much separation), and stereo isn't just directional effects they do a lot of other junk to the music too. A quality mix is much more important.

Some stereo is okay - this IS awful though.

  • @rockyPants4000 Don't get me wrong though, great artist and song, I just don't like this digitally modified version.

  • @xqpod111 Thanx xq, you played on one of the most brilliant tracks from that era. GOOD work !

  • @Do ugNederland I have noe played it 4 straight times now so i know what you are saying 100% Take care Dan

  • @DougNederland One of the most good feeling inducing tracks from the late 5T's early 6T's. Especialy the horns section is brilliant.

MUST have the early single version with the reverb ,which is left off the later album versions .

Same with "I Fought The Law"from the Bobby Fuller Four, and early Chuck Berry, these tracks NEED some reverb,to give that AM radio feel.

  • He is still not in the Hall of Fame. What gives. He appeared (42) on Dick Clark's American Bandstand more often then any other singer ever! He has had many many hits.

  • I loved this song when I was a kid, made me want to go to New Orleans. Got me into Dixieland groove for awhile. What a great fun song.

  • Freddie put a lot of energy into his songs, and recorded things suited to him. Great orchestra on this, btw.

  • Freddy Boom Boom Cannon always sang such fun songs. What a delight to hear them again.

  • Great version of an old NOLA jazz standard--one of the best things about it = the horns. Great stuff.

  • My little sister was crazy about his songs. She was just a little girl too...about 6 years old

  • I love this song it reminds me of my sister, she was always playing it.

  • Freddy~Boom-Boom Cannon~ Wonderful memory!

  • Tomorrow is Freddy's birthday!!

  • Fantastic! Always loved Freddy Cannon!!!!

  • I played this song over and over. It got me interested in Dixieland bands. I even bought a Dixieland album. But I never played that album like I played this classic rock and roll song.

This is truly a smokin' oldie.

  • i always wondered way back then what creole (which i couldn't have spelled back then) ladies were??!! It was many years before i learned.

  • This was the first 45 rpm record that I ever purchased !!! ..... it really doesn't seem that long ago !!

  • Great Song.

  • Finally, the original version! Thanks for posting!!!

  • For Stereo sound add &fmt=18 to the url and refresh ....

  • Hey BladeSteve2007...thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been waiting for this. Well done!!!!!!!!!
