I have noticed something when it comes to people comparing one guitarist to another. And i am guilty of it myself, so im not saying ive never done it, but, when you compare.... Say, Satch, Vai, Malmsteen and EVH, they all shred, but they play in DIFFERENT STYLES! Satch is more bluesy shredding, Vai is more Prog Rockish shredding, Malmsteen is more metal shredding, and EVH is more just hard rock shredding. Thats just my personal pet peve that I have noticed.
why is it always a fuckin competition to you guys??????......if you were true fans you wouldnt worry about another dickhead coming out with their whos better than who bullshit...why even compare....vai,petrucci and malmsteen are 3 totally different machines with 3 totally different styles each do their own thing and do it well so quit your fuckin sniveling and listen to the damn music!!!!!
@jason42172 typical "youtube-fags" who talk like a bunch of bitches(except you jason). Saying stuff like "He's better than him, or no...malmsteen sucks my cock better than vai..Why can't you all go and kill yourself..losers... enjoy the damn music!!!!!!!!!!!
Directed towards the recent argument: Of course Steve's sweeps aren't clean. I personally think he's never tried to get them 100% clean. Alot of his playing emphasizes a sort of grittiness and primal feel. He likes his guitars to really sing out, which is why he loves the Dimarzio Evolution pickups which he uses so often (and Dimarzio made specifically for him). They're really really hot pickups. This isn't to say he's not technically awesome, but there are indeed cleaner players out there.
no one is allowed to dis his technique if you arent rich and famous and get to play infront of millions of people a year.. so.. till then... drink a nice tall glass of shut the fuck up
He does what every guitar player wishes they could but only a few actually can, and that is express emotion through his instrument. People will always talk about music as a sport, he is better than him, but music is an art, and in this world, that is one fact that will always be lost.

u think Vai uses a sustain effect since his notes transition so smoothly into eachother? i mean there's a lot of sliding done in this song and when he does it the notes that he slides onto become no quieter than the ones he plucks, u know?
@92soothsayer He's using EVO I think, which doesn't have a sustainer on it. FLO does. His pickups are just so high output and his gear rig ads a lot of gain, plus the Edge Pro gives a lot of sustain too. I think all the distortion and gear he has just gives the guitar a natural sustain.
@MaxxManRules1 i see. i'v been experimenting with my brother's Boss ME-50 for a while to see how i could get this kind of tone. closest i'v come to it was adjusting my settings to some light crispy-bassy kind of distortion (i think it was Muff), "S>H" tone modification (those are both effect settings on the Boss ME-50) and my guitar set on neck pickup.
and of course i use some reverb and sustain for this tune. i'm okay at playing it, but of course no one does it like Vai
@EpiPeavey being an audience of technical guitarist has given me the ear to differentiate between good and batechnique....do you seriously think his sweeps are clean....i never thought his sweeps were clean.....compare to Petrucci, Gilbert, Becker or Malmsteen......i don't mean to offend anyone here.....as i already said i admire him but there is always something on your idol you can criticize unless u r totally biased and blinded.......
@tsarumaga Did I mention anything about technique? I don't think you're getting it: he's making music... This is NOT a technique excercise. You're allowed to your opinions, but don't say you're a Vai fan and then critique his technique... You come off as a total douche.
@EpiPeavey i know i cant argue with you so my bad...sorry for offending you....n BTW i seriously admire Vai's ability to create those meaningful melodies....my fav one is Building the church, Taurus Bulba n liberty to inform you.....keep it cool dude...
@tsarumagar He got into it and maybe messed up two of those sweeps. He is human. Usually whenever I have seen him live, his sweeps are right on the money. I've seen other comments and I am not attacking you like everyone else. I see what you are saying here. He was a little messy for a second. All in all he's still my favorite.
A man passed a hippie strumming a guitar on the street. He asked, "Pardon me, but do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall?" The hippie looked up from his guitar and said, "Fuck off, I've heard it."
I wonder how artists like Vai and satriani make such simple melodies so freaking awesome... maybe it;s because they have talent and i don't T_T... Oh well, they got theirs.. I got mine I guess.. :P

most definitely. but honestly, i don't see the point in this one. unless there's different tunings. usually on a double neck you'll have a different number of strings or maybe one neck is fretless. but this one appears to be the same thing just repeated.
i mean do you really know if joe "can't" do what steve does? have you ever thought that maybe joe doesn't want to do what steve does and hasn't even tried? i'm pretty sure if joe really wanted to do something, he could...
I like the Vai one...

@metalheadrocker5150 I have also noticed these juxtapositions always center around guitarists, well more often than not by the by.
