When I went to school for hair FINGER WAVES were the first thing we learned..all I can say is it seems as tho you are struggling with the concept nice try tho
Is the hair actually wet? Or do you start dry and spray it with a setting lotion. I bought setting lotion, but it was difficult to use. Any type you would recommend? Many thanks in advance!
@virgiijauregui I've found it much easier to do when the hair is wet first. I like the lottabody setting lotion, diluted maybe to 1 part to 4, and I put it in a spray bottle.
@bellamami2390 Haha well, the 'finger' in finger waves only implies that you use the finger to hold one or two waves at a time- after that you have to move to the next wave. Manuals of the time advise that (especially for ladies whose hair is typically straight) you use some kind of clip or comb to hold the others in place. One thing I would change is that when you put the ridges in the hair, pinch it between two fingers and THEN clip it- it gives a more defined ridge. :) Great job!
@ob2be Yes, I just comb it out carefully once it's dry, following the wave with the comb. It won't look like finger waves anymore, though, just like soft, evenly wavy hair. Perhaps there's a happy medium that you can set with hair spray? I haven't messed around with this much but I will let you know if I figure something out!
I love it =] This is a really cheap and easy way to do this style. Everyone else says to buy a waving iron, but I like this way so much better. Thanks for sharing!
@brittanyg820 : I'm glad you think so! This really is a beautiful style and I love how it's starting to come back a bit on the red carpet. Try it out and let me know if you have any questions!

i´ve got an other technic to create much deeper waves.. i use curlers or papillotes. finger waves dont make volume .
instead of clips i would use combs, because they don´t mash the surface.

@umsoluvlee I'm thinking it was a reference to van Gogh lopping off his ear and giving it to his girlfriend.

If you want the set to appear soft do you brush the setting lotion out once dry? and if so how do you do this without messing up the wave?
