  • Ah! The Path of Metal!

I shall walk on thy ground!

  • I think I took a wrong turn at Dracula's castle...

  • Comment removed

  • Bro, "growling" vocals aren't supposed to go with the melody. The melody switches from the "mainstream" position of vocalist to the lead guitar. That's the beauty of it.

  • Zonata Harctica, xd

  • @sebametal94 aaahahahhahahahahahhaaa

  • @sebametal94 xDDDD qué bueno

  • Before you make a comeback statement you should read it over or learn to spell.

  • I always feel that this kind of music is exclusive, because it seems to be the reserve of people with truly great taste! In addition, evidently, its also the reserve of people with properly functioning ears.

  • I hope everyone realizes this is Sonata Arctica :P , I don't feel like searching through comments so don't go telling me I'm wrong. I just don't want to read guys fighting over who's better...That would be a waste of good music not being heard. Ahaha :)

  • if you guys are looking for good rock and metal bands check my page i have tons of them and i personally like them all. an if you know a band you think i might like that i dont have then post me a comment and ill look into it.

  • Shut up fags, metal is metal, we metalheads should not fight eachother. If you wanna rage, go rage at some shitty rap or hiphop vid.

  • Shut up fags, metal is metal, we metalheads shudnt fight eachother. :p

  • this is power metal

  • Actually, there is nothing really to consider, I simply just stated the obvious. But is that the extent of your creative input, to simply make fun of other peoples comments? Does it make you feel more adequate about yourself to put others down? Just like listening to tough music makes you feel more of a man. Ironically you've helped prove my piont on the type of debth-lacking simpleton it takes to listen to noisey music 'cos they think it makes them cool.

  • wow you're all really dumb.... do you guys even think about the bullshit you express on here ? or do you just blurt it out with full conviction. Actually, considering that you have commited to sharing your questionable views, I think it would be even stupider if you actually contemplated before you did so. Haha, peons...

  • In case it's of any suprise, people who listen to Rah! Rah! music (ie, growling) or anything overly intimidating have a tough-guy complex. To spell it out, this means they're insecure with their masculinity. The muscle-heads in the gym, the jocks picking on the nerds, any who need to flock with a rough crowd,etc.,etc., and now we have the growler's. Anything's better than(C)rap, but it's still not singing, sorry.

  • I don't think the vocal melody fits with the song all the time... The singer tries to do the regular clichés but fails

  • Nice melic metal

  • another stratovarious

  • Zonata Antartica

  • @matias19891 - AAaahaha!

  • @dran219 ok, stop comparing things with dragonforce please, they just suck, we all know. comparing things with dragonforce just degrades the compared band

  • me cargan los wns que hablan por hablar, esta banda es anterior a Sonata.

y el cantante es el compositor, vocalista y tecladista.

  • A voz me Lembra Edu Falaschi !!

  • Sonata Arctica called... they want thier name back.

ah this is similar, but much more like refined power metal than SA is...

tis good, but nothing new for me. I will stick to Stratovarius and Bloodbound.

  • @Monolithan666 The 80s called they want their joke back.

  • They can have it back...

I twas a little drunk 1 month ago.

    Good music. No problem here.

  • haha nice response rock on dude.

  • What could be wrong with the 80's? :)

  • Power metal from Sweden at it's best. Sorry they are not active. Cheers metal friends. This Band ROXXXXXXXX!!!

  • Sweden and Germany are the rulers of power metal

  • hahaha xD! In power metal Italian bands are first ;] And I like bands from Finland Sweden and Norway :)

  • I only know Drakkar and Domine (sorry i didn't mention them) Finland often only play death metal.

  • yes...and dont forget FINLAND my friend!!! they got many awesome bands to..cheers!!

  • Okay I won't forget in future. can u say me some?

  • Yes i can....Stratovarius , Sonata Arctica, Excalion, Nightwish, Thunderstone, Dreamtale, Apocalyptica, Altaria, Celesty, Kotpielto, Timo Tolkki, Lovex, Tarot, Cains Offering (mixed artists from both sonata arctica and stratovarius) and many moore....listen to them to start with im coming with moore, you are not gonna be disappointed my friend...cheerssss!!

  • Also, Ultimatium, Warmen, Thaurorod, Olympos Mons, and Twilightning!

  • haha....you see, their are many metalbands from finland!! cant count them all......=()

  • and Ensiferum

  • and Norther

  • Not to mention the bands from other genres that have power metal overtones and influences after all how better to tout the merits of a genre than the fact that it inspires others, such as Dream Theater(Progressive), Children of Bodom(death metal) and the last 3 iron maiden albums(a band that obtainded its own fame long before this genre's creation).

  • yes of course....they ar all good bands, and genres i got all the DVD´s with Dream Theater, not all cd`s though... LOL but i gonna buy them! i dont like death metal though...one song is ok then i must switch to something else, not listen a whole evening to that genre But the bands i mention before are all from Finland and that was what heavydoombeje was asking about....Cheers friend!!

  • Funny you should say that cause I am finding that I am actually getting away from Death metal especially the straight up brutality bands. But I still have to respect the talent of old bodom and dimmu even if the style is something that is kind of fading out of my life.

  • they are very talent bands both of em....and musically even more, like their metal symphonie intros its very majestic but the ghrouling gets to much after a while....their are also bands that mix it and up and there i dont have problem at all to like...it just shows that they are talented even more!!

  • I agree about the growling. I would like to form a power metal band that plays heavy. Still keep all the elements of power metal and the clean vocals but let the music have that heaviness and darkness....like the reverse of what Norther does.

  • ok cool....and thats the right way to do it, just like my taste. if you got the prerequisites i suggest you just do it....

  • It's good that you are getting away from Death Metal. some of what they say is pretty horrible, and most of it is a bunch of noise, (Not trying to take anything away from anyone.) I know because I used to listen to that stuff. Melodic, progressive and symphonic metal is where the best songwriting is and has always been.

  • I agree the lyrics are a big bit of what got me away. I really wanna be more of a symphonic/classical/progressive power metal band that is willing to PLAY heavy and dark sometimes but not really cross fully into death metal.

  • Yes the main problem with Deathmetal is the growling. There are a lot bands that ruin their music with growling vocals. A couple of bands that are an example are Ammon Amarth and WayLand. A much better Viking metal band would be StormWarrior. And as far as WayLand goes, Folkmusic and Deathmetal don't mix.

  • My all time favorite metal vocalist is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. He would be perfect for one of these bands....though Blaze Bayley wouldn't be horrible for this style either.

  • Dude if Amon Amarth got kai hasen to sing it would be.... very out of touch. Their a band that must sound angry, aggresive, and ready for battle. While I agree that death metal isn't all great, but growl vocals aren't horrible if done the right way.

    Check out Equilibrium, german growls!

  • No, actually it would be a lot better. Stormwarrior is a perfect example of a viking metal band that does not have growling vocals. Viking metal is supposed to be telling a story. You can't understand what is being said if they are using growling vocals. And secondly, Growling vocals do not go with melody. When you listend to wayland, it clashes. Folk music and Death metal vocals do not go together. The growling vocal are out of touch.

  • @Smartguy561 but it dose come down 2 the person what they think about it

  • @Smartguy561 growling vocals not go with melody?...Opeth...?

  • @Smartguy561 : Folk music + death metal vocals: Suidakra.

  • @nikkobogdan or Eluveitie :| Suidakra is more black/pagan btw

  • @Smartguy561 I think eluveitie does the growling with perfection!

  • @Smartguy561

    i agree ,

but have you ever listened to amon amarth?

  • @Smartguy561 thats not necessarily true.thats just your opinion.I like lots of folk bands who scream/growl.like suidarka, eluveitie, ensiferum ect.they also use clean/vocals too.its all just preference.and melodies and harsh vocals do go together ever heard of melodic death metal..the main reason I disagree with you is when it comes to metal there are no boundaries.and thats why I love metal.you want metal with trumpets, violins, flutes, opera vocals what ever its out there for people to find.

  • @Smartguy561 also most songs are stories.especially when it come to metal.obviously there are songs that aren't stories but in metal there are loads of songs by all bands that would just count as a story.also yes growling is harder to understand but if you get used to it you can usually make out the words unless they are growls super fast like cannibal corpse.you probably just don't like harsh vocals but to say they don't belong is kind of disrespectful to those who like that kind of vocals.

  • @DeathToRealMetal i agree plus every metal band i listen to, most of the songs are stories or expressions of something like an emotion or something that has happened that really isnt so great. now granted there are alot of songs that are pointless. EX: Metallica - enter sandman. theres no reall story behind it, it was just an album filler that sounded really good and made it to the top. now if you want the death metal instrumentals with easily understable lyrics i recommend the band Death.

  • @NiinjaBlader I listen to metal mainly for the instrumental aspect.and if the lyrics are meaningful and good thats a bonus. If their lyrics are just filled with junk I usually don't care to read them unless its about something I'm interested in(like aliens).I have been a death fan for 6 years now.its pretty easy to understand the voacalist that scream, growl or whatever at a slower pace.like death.they might have fast songs but he doesn't usually scream fast.

  • @Smartguy561 Coming from someone with a background in theory, I'd have to disagree.

There is a lot of emotion and expression in the 'harsher' vocal styles. That it does or doesn't mesh with the music is subject to opinion. It is simply misunderstood and elitist or traditionalist crowds will shy away from it.

  • @Smartguy561 you are so right

  • @Smartguy561 Finntroll and Ensiferum are folk metal and they sound great when they growl. I don't think growling is inadequate for folk metal unless they just plain suck.

  • @Smartguy561 u shuld listen to Rebellion - Arise if u like viking metal

  • @Smartguy561 Death growls are more of an aquired taste. Actually death growls CAN go with a melody. A good example of that is Kalmah. Insomnium also has death growls and they are very melodic.

  • @Smartguy561 Amon Amarth, ever heard about'em? The growling vocals goes perfectly with the story, the melody and the whole song. Nothing is absolute, some bands are better to mix clean vocals with their music and some other are doing as good as'em with growling vocals.

  • @MaximeBanel i greatly agree Amon Amarth uses the growls very well with the story and it actually complements the instrumentals so i think you guys should widin your range of bands before talking about all. just sayin.

  • @Smartguy561

First, I think that is up to the listener and their ability to discern words out of the growling technique. If you would start listening to enough bands with a singer that growls you will soon be able to discern words quite well. It's always like that, first they just "scream" and then you learn how to listen to it.

Second, in my opinion, growling can work perfectly with folk music as it adds a dimension of rawness that the music usually cannot bring.

In short, I do not agree.

  • @Tanekh Thank you! It's such a cop out when people disregard death metal vocals like that so ignorantly.

  • @Smartguy561

If you can't understand the growling vocals, that person is doing it wrong.

  • @Acrimonious10001 *Glares at Waking the Cadaver*

  • @Smartguy561 you have no idea of what you are saying now. What you are saying is not a fact. It's your opinion. A fact is, that grows also have melody. But you wear a helmet with closed gates, you can only look forward. You cannot understand what we find so good about growls.

Try to speak in your opinion, not in fake facts as you did here.

  • @Smartguy561 ever heard of Kalmah??? they just proved you wrong numb nuts

  • @Smartguy561 Eluvietie - Inis Mona. Give that a listen before you decide growling and folk can't be cheerful and decent.

  • @DecimationResolve Agreed, great song and band.

  • @DecimationResolve listen to Reformation by Amorphis if u have nethn against growling.. Reformation is not a mere song, its a piece of music mastered to its every note...

  • @DecimationResolve FUCK YEAH, that's my happy song hahaha, i listen to that and one more magic potion by ensiferum when i'm feelin' down

    also some good ol' Korpiklaani

  • @Smartguy561 1st off stormwarrior is power metal not viking metal, viking metal is just a term ponces use, secondly you must have terrible hearing if you cant understand growls, and 3rdly you have obviously never heard of bands like Gwydion, Heathen foray, Thronar, Forefather etc that use growls and other harsh vocals really well with folk music

  • @over9000metals Well said

  • @over9000metals thats smartguys is actually really stupid LOL

we both had the same shit to say, i just wish i saw your comment first that way i didnt have to write it

  • @Smartguy561 You should listen to Ensiferum. The best way is to use them both

  • @Smartguy561 my condolences for your pathetic problem, but i cant truly sympathize because, i can understand everything they are growling and because i can, im more open to the music, since youre ignorant of vocals in metal ill try to make this easy.

folk metal doesnt have grows, normally but the growls are a good accent for some bands

viking metal uses those lower tone growls and the "shriek"

melodic death metal uses the same type of growls and shrieks that vary from band to band

  • @Smartguy561 Hey smart guy, Vintersorg

  • @Smartguy561 There are plenty of metal bands with growling vocals that are easily intelligible even to you & they go with a melody. Don't believe me? Check out Dissection, Entombed, Satyricon, At The Gates, Carcass, My Dying Bride, Naglfar, Samael. Not viking metal or to your taste? Doesn't matter. You owe me at least 5 minutes for having to take the time to log in & correct your statement. You can pay it back by checking some of those bands out. That goes for the rest of you who gave thumbs up.

  • @Smartguy561

Screaming goes with melody (black metal) :-D Windir is folk metal with black metal vocals, and they are fantastic.

  • @Smartguy561 Not true. They are plenty of great Viking Metal, and Folk Metal, bands that use growling vocals, and make it work very well.

  • @Smartguy561 All in all, it's a matter of taste. I was hoping to hear some growls, and am disappointed. Not that I don't like the music, but the vocals here are just not my cup of coffee ^^ So I'll keep searching for some new music ! \m/

  • @ZuoLuoT THIS IS POWER METAL.. Why would you expect to hear growls you fucking retard?

  • @HomogeneousEurope1 I did not expect to hear some, I was HOPING to hear some growls. I didn't know this band. I like the music, I don't like the vocals here. Can't you fucking grow up in your small thick head and stop insulting people for whatever reason ? You're the kind of people that make mankind go worse and worse...

  • @metalgodaragona1986

    Right on :P

I think growls are better as ambiance, not as to be used with lyrics, unless on ending the words..

so i think there's a lot of technique with how you choose to use em, some work and others don't timing wise

  • You are one of only two people I've ever heard say that. It is exactly my problem with the music. ^^

  • amazing art album

  • hahaha i love how the beginning of this is 8:05+ on Lost Horizons, Lost in the Depths of Me. note for note.

  • I was just thinking that it sounded like a LH song xD. Just goes to show how much skill Lost Horizon had.

  • xD So true.

  • yeah you aint kidding.....do you know what track was released first???

  • Zonatas song came first, but as unlikely as it sounds there is always the possibility that 2 great artists happened to write the same notes. Nowadays it'd be tough not to, although they are also in the same genre..

  • me of zonaria :p

  • lol zonata

    reminds me sonata artica xD

    awsum sung

    awsum art

  • man anything is better than dragonforce and also this band sounds real good

  • Hello:) Mike here:) Drummer from former Zonata. Check out the band I play with nowdays. Enbound

Take care and rockOn/Mike Cameron Force

  • This band kicks major ass but it's not like Sonata Arctica. Although I can see how the thought could take root. (Especially considering the funny name similarity)

  • or dragonland / dragonforce / dragonlord

    ??

    bell end XD

  • Comment removed

  • if u judge bands by similarity in names, what would u say for Dragon Guardian - Dragonvarius :D

  • Regardless of whether they are like Sonata Arctica or not, they sound good, and have unusually cool album art for bands in the power/symphonic genres. The only other one i've seen that is as good as theirs is the one for Stratovarius' newest album.

  • its ZONATA ffs.. gate of fear, hollow rain, Zonata - Beyond the rainbow, zonata zonata nothing arctic, they r older, and already disbanded. they were too advanced for theyre era

  • Yeah, I know. Everyone else is fighting about who is better between them and Sonata Arctica. They are both great.

What era were they in? Because Crimson Glory was the late 80's, and they were too advanced for their time period as well, lol. If you don't know Crimson Glory, check 'em out cuz they're really good too :)

  • "they are not like artcitca" exactly... that's the idea, isn't it?? i mean, when u have a band... not to sound like something that already exists?? lol =P

  • I really can't make many same things to Sonata Arctica. Tony Kakko has a far more clearer Voice and the songs have clearer Guitar Melodies. THis band is good too, but theyre not like Arctica.

  • Zonata and Sonata Arctica inspire eachother and many others to evolve their music to new heights

  • this is fucking great...wow...

  • is not sonata arctica...noobs
