Yeah f*cked up song, but powerful, much more than the original imho. Describes well the mood that must have infected every being in Rome, back in its most critical period.
When Atia looks away toward Antony at Octavian's triumph, it's my favorite part of any show or movie I've ever seen. She looks so hurt. She's such a great actress.
Very Rare but sometimes it's worth paying the goverment's backdoor tax aka, TV licence Fee ''ROME'' was one of them. I wish they made a season 3 but as usaul the powers that be at the BBC said NO ;(!. Great clips & editing with the right soundtrack Thank You :)
I realy cant see any reason why there can be a new season perhaps more. Rome finished with Augustus reigning supreme but the history following Augustus is equally bloody and compelling. Immdeiatley after Augustus was Tiberius followed by the infamous Caligula, Claudias and finaly Nero.Wow at least another 3 seasons there. I guess its back to American idol and New Jersey shore for the brain dead.
For me, Rome really is the definition of perfection. I keep on returng to it every two months or so, just to relieve it's amazingness :) I've watched MANY series over the years, but no series even comes close to Rome. Especially, James Purefoy shows that he is among the best actors in the world, and definately underrated!
rome was never ment to have a second season, it was more of a made for tv movie...but poeple fel in love with it so much hbo demanded a second season. unfortunetly they pretty much used up all the good stuff in season 1...so second season was a bit lack luster. but still entertaining...season one shall go down in infimy tho.
@GarIicjr I can see why somebody who is a tad on the simple side would prefer season 1. The story is very basic and well known - the events leading up to the murder of Julius Caesar. However, season 2 has far more depth: the conflict between Octavian and Marc Antony, how the children were sold into slavery, Egyptian life, etc. ... For those who prefer a simple story, I would recommend season 1. But for people who prefer a more complex drama, season 2 is superior!
BTW, Vorenus & Pullo really existed and were written in Caesar's Gallic War scrolls, but only extremely briefly. Julius says they were somewhat rivals before they were very good friends, but not really much more. Actually, 2 stories have been written about those 2, and it seems this is where most of the stuff from this series comes from. Still, except for a few above the top events in these two's Rome series lives, the distortions are great for painting a picture of living in those days.
This series is, hands down, the best series ever to come from a historical event. The story is somewhat butchered for higher entertainment value, but I am intrigued by the similarities to that of the authentic Rome. One thing that absolutely puzzles me is how you can research so much history of Rome but totally destroy the simple Latin word for hello, "salve." In Latin 101, the first day you learn that "v" in Latin is pronounced "w." I can overlook the "c" sound though...not the "v." A++++

IMAGINE if the Roman Empire (<3) hadn't fallen! That would be my heaven... We would be much more evolved by now without having gone through "the dark age" of cristianism!
@BapBsRs I agree, all the technology was lost during the dark ages and had to be re-learned centuries later.. so imagine that.. how far advanced do you think earth would be right now.. if Rome never fell..
fundyfru, I'm looking for a clue from you. We know who does the cover, but why this choice of song? A longtime point of contention is WHY Rome fell? People being people.....was it that no body had faith in anything anymore? Roman "worship" is a running theme throught this ROME series. Or, was it that some new ideas presented people with a stronger reason for being and a kind of hope?
During this time it was all about showing how powerful you were in rome, and how you used it. Caesar was a brute and lived for a battle. Antony love the pleasures that life had. with cleopatra he was known for his orgy parties. Augustus believed in a perfect family and a perfect life. The plebs were used for popularity.

Sorry, but this looks like the kind of thing a 13 year old puts together for their school project. A very very basic idea (wow, taking a cold version of a nice song and then making it last FIVE minutes) is a bit unimpressive or original. Sorry to sound so critical. More thought could have made it better - eg. putting in some dialogue at key moment to add more effect. Otherwise, it's just trite. And an awful, awful version of the song.
Can someone tell me what season/episode the first 30 seconds of this video were on? Did this show discuss the second triumvirate at all? How did Brutus die? This song is shit as well. Horrible rendition.
It's all in the second season. The power struggle between Octavian and Marc Antony as the two strongest of the three. The first 30 minutes were about the battle of Phillipi, very nice episode by the way. You should see it if you are interested. By far the best roman period production I have seen.
What happens in the movie differes slightly from the history, for instance:Atia died in the year 43 BC, before the Battle of Philippi in which the legions of Antony and Octavian defeated Brutus and Cassius. In the series, she outlives these events and even lives to see her son become the first Roman Emperor. ))))
I'm very sensitive when it comes to Beatles or former Beatles being covered...but man!! This one is quiete awsome!! And well done for puting it on the images of "Rome" !! Bravo!
I'm proud to be Italian. And I really love Ancient Rome, above all the first emperor Octavian Augustus. Well... even if I hate translating his "Res gestae divi Augusti" ( Acts of the divine Augustus )
3rd and finally, The song also sings of hope and peace between man when what you show in the video shows the opposite and it's done in a way to show what was done to make ROME what Rome was. I dont know if you meant to do that on purpose but its good.
2. The song it's self just like the first reason is done in irony as well. The song was done by lennon in an optimistic sunny literal hope, where as this song is done in a dreadful dark type of slow way.
1.Its ironic because the song itself is done in optimism of a better world a utopia and a heaven on earth while in the video the very opposite is taking place.
