My new growth comes in very fast and when it comes to drying I wouldn't know how to handle it. How did you handle your new growth? When I stretch my relaxers, I have to press my new growth if I don't want my hair to break. Did you ever have to straighten your new growth?
I didn't use direct heat, meaning flat irons or curling irons. Usually when I dried it was either a rollerset under a head dryer or I air dried in a bun
how often did you relax? i was planing on relaxing every 6 or 7 weeks. I dont really use heat neither... And the back of my hair is shoulder length and the rest is a bit shorter. I got a relaxer about a month ago after a year of being natural...
My hair is relaxed and at about shoulder length. I am very interested in growing it down to the middle of my back. I am going to start oiling my scalp at about 4 times a week and doing scalp massages a few times a week also. Do you have anymore tips to grow my hair as long as yours?
Only other thing would be to try and keep it simple. I try to leave my hair alone as much as possible, this has really helped me retain length. Also, deep conditioning and moisturizing regularly has helped to minimize breakage. HTH
girl stop hiding your face..your very pretty..and im jealous of your hair..lol..,i cant wait for my hair to get as long as yours....very nice clip...keep it up:)
I love this "cheesy" jazz...relaxes me. LOL! Very nice job. Should I order that JBCO? I'm a product junkie for real and I'm holding back but something tells me it's going to be better than the Indian Ayurvedic products.
Despite all the care my hair was still breaking off in the crown area and the nape. I manage to stop the breakage in my crown by using minimal heat. I stopped the breakage in my nape by not relaxing it. It worked very well but I still had the small patch in my nape that would keep breaking off. So I waited and waited and it paid off as I've noticed that my hair isn;t breaking anymore in my nape. When I was about the give up, I always watched videos of girls who've made it.
Hi I am a lurker on LHCF and I always admire the picture in your siggy. I've been on my hair journey for almost four years now and my hair in only shoulter lenght. I am one of those girls whose hair never grew past ear lenght so achieving shoulter lenght is a victory for me. When I started my hair journey my hair was badly breaking off from the nape to the crown area. I looked a hot mess lol. After findind LHCF my hair health soon improved but I still head a few problem areas.
I am trying to grow out my short relaxed hair. I am in need of help with how to get my relaxed hair strait. No matter what I do, it never gets strait unless I use heat! Do you have any tips for me?
if you want details then check out my regimen video... but briefly I wash and Dc wkly, moisturize nightly and protective style about 2-3 days out the wk. I use mostly mizani products but also like Dove, Suave Humectant, Nexxus and ORS... HHG!
Wow love your video! I have gone through phases of natural then perm it then cut it all off for natural never sure which I should be I prefer my hair permed but now I only perm every 4-6 months. Whereas it was like every time I had a millimetre of growth.
I am inspired to keep my perm but maintain a regimen as you have done.
Thank you for the video. would you say that the JBCO is what really helped your sides fill in? I want to try it again and be consistant in using it for my sides to fill in more. Thanks for your reply in advance and your hair is beautiful:)
Your hair sooo beautiful! What is a protective style exactly. Is that a style that u where that is low manipulation or a style that you keep in ur hair for a certain length of time? or is it both?
Thanks! protective styling is basically any hair style that protects your ends from exposure to the elements. When you protective style the idea is to keep your hair off of your shoulders and from rubbing against any clothing or material. A protective style can be a bun, pinning your hair up in a claw clip...etc...
Hey, I would just say pay attention to what your hair wants. Moisture and protein is very important for relaxed hair so finding that balance is important. Also deep conditioning regularly, protective styling and stretching your relaxers are also helpful...
Your videos really inspire me; I plan on starting my journey in the summer after i take my sew in (I have it in for graduation) but I am def. subscribing to you...but how often do you trim your hair

Hi, and thanks so much... JBCO = Jamaican Black Castor Oil... it's great that you want to start your journey, feel free to hit me up w/ a private message if you have any specific questions :-)
oh yay we're supporting my country!!!! lol.. . . .what other products do you suggest I use? I've decided to moisturize it in the morning by wetting my fingers with water and running them from root to tip is this good? Also at what point do you think I'll start seeing results? about three months in? Umm if you need to see my hair type and so forth I put up a video yesterday and I'm about to put one up now so if you want to then you can watch them. I appreciate your help. . .im so nervous lol
what do u you use to deep condition your hair and what relaxer do you use and what country are you from? you have beautiful hair x how often do u relax?
You inspire me. BTW your hair is gorgeous. In July I relaxed my hair after having been natural for 5 years. I experience growth both ways. However, now that I am using relaxers, it's nice to know that there are people who are dedicated to maintaining healthy hair. Thank you and keep us updated on techniques and products.
@MsAsb1990 its jus coz i thnk natural hair is so beautiful and not enuf blak womenfeel that it is. i dont belive that there is suchthing as "good hair" just coz urhair is "nappy" or thick or short that dosnt make it badhair. many blak ladies say they relax it coz its easier to manage but thats coz in the media theydnt tel us about our hair or thebest way to take care of itso we hav to find out 4 ourselvs... afrohair is so beautiful &it needs tobe shown coz it CAN grown long... that was what ment
you have lovely hair! you really have inspired me to grow my hair like you said on 2.36. it's already to my shoulders, but in terrible condition. thank you!
Um Kami Who Gives A Fukk Wut A Hata Gotta Say..Lovin Da Hair Hunny! I Started My Hair Journey Wit Relaxed Hair 08 N Im PASS BSL! Im Oh So Proud Of It! Keep Da Videos Coming! I wanna SEE u Make it 2 WL! Thats Also my Goal mak WL by 22..im 20 now Nnn We def Gon Make It.."Go Lye" lol..
i am so impressed im growing my hair too but its hard to stay away from heat but i do try to.. i just permed my hair a week ago and im not sure what i should be doing to it. any advice
Thanks, it is hard to stay away from heat, but it'll definitely be worth it. Try protective styling, washing and conditioning wkly and moisturizing nightly... keeping it simple is the best way to go... HHG!
No, it won't burn if you apply it after conditioning and drying your hair. JBCO is very thick and heavy though so I wouldn't apply it to my scalp if I ws wearing my hair straight, only my edges..
Thanks so much... I think Cream of Nature has great shampoo and conditioners. For shampoos I also like Nexxus therape, Mizani Bontafying, Pantene Pro-V relaxed and natural and Joico Moisture recovery. For conditioners my hair likes Mizani moisturfuse, ORS replenishing, Nexxus Humectress and Redken Smooth Down Butter... I say my hair b/c not everything works for everyone. You should definitely sample out different products and see what your hair responds to. HTH
Thanks hunee... if I'm being lazy around the house then I'll air dry my roller sets, if I'm in a rush or want to get it over with then I'll use the dryer...
You are truly an inspiration. I'm a member of a hair board (I think I recognize your screenname, lol) and I'm currently about an an inch to an inch and a half away from BSL. Can't wait until I'm at where you're at :).
yes she means no heat at all. I have been on my hair care journey for about 6 months now. My hair has grown and thicken soo much. Heat breaks the hair and strip the natural oils on the hair. check out the hair blogs those girls are wonderful. they will help you. If i did it you can aswell.
Yep, for about 6 months or so at the begining of my journey I didn't use heat at all, I only air dried my hair. Now I use direct heat about 3-4 times a year.
Girl after watching this video I started to link one of my videos! I have just went back to relaxed after being natural for 5 or 6 years and I made a video of my transition. I am getting soooooooooo much heat from people who dont think your hair can be relaxed and healthy! You are proof! Hell I am proof! Im sure you get those type of comments too. Your hair is beautiful and I hope to get to that length within the next year. HHG!!!
I do get a lot of those "you should be natural b/c it's better" comments... but you are right, you can have healthy relaxed hair. I just subscribed to your channel :-) Thanks for the compliment and good luck on your new relaxed journey!

i understand what you mean people with relaxed hair do get alot of flak from us natural beauties. her hair is very beautiful but it seems limp and uninteresting
i bet u get that question: omg is that your real hair alot? but how often do u relax. and i am also 1mnth into my hair care journey. do you have any tips for a starter?
i use creme of nature shampoo and conditioner, wen i dnt hav in n e weaves i was 1nce a week and co wash, deep condition, and wen i take out this hair gonna do an egg protien treatment, put castor oil on my scalp and moist. and seal...n e thing eles, also wat products would u recomend...thanx alot
Hey Nsexy, thanks so much for subscribing and congrats on starting your hair care journey!
I relax about 3-4x a year, so that's around every 4 months or so... I'm currently on a 6 month stretch and so far have relaxed twice this yr.
I love creme of nature products and it sounds like you have a good regimen going. The only advice I would give is to keep it simple. I think low manipulation and minimum heat is key to growing your hair out. HHG!
I usually put a tbl spoon into my conditioner mix... I was also massaging a dime size amount around my edges and temple...Never on my scalp though b/c it's too heavy
Definitely Jamaican Black Castor Oil... I love that stuff and have been using it for a 1 1/2 years faithfully.. I started to notice thickness after about 3 months or so of consistent use...
I'm half african and I never relaxed my hair before, because I wasn't sure about the results, but your relaxed hair looks gorgeous even without heat^^

Your hair did grow..did the balding in the front improve?.....keep in mind that relaxer cause gangrene of the scalp....not very INTELLIGENT to use these product to have long hair...my hair is almost to my buttocks and that's without chemicals.
Yes, relaxers can cause a myriad of damage, I am fully aware of that... However, I'm not using these products for the purpose of long hair. It's a styling choice for me. I am fully aware I can also have long hair naturally, that's obviously not my preference at this point in time. And Yes the balding did improve and yes my hair has grown... the balding did not stem from relaxers, it came from micro braids and weaves.
Thanks lady! I'm a huge Mizani fan, so I was mostly using the Bontafying shampoo and Moisturefuse conditioner... To moisturize I use Nexxus Humectress, which is heavy and super moisturizing when air drying and a lighter one like NTM or HE LTR when wearing my hair straight
What's helped me is keeping it simple and leaving my hair alone as much as possible, so only combing once a week, bunning most days out the week, washing and DC 1x a week... Also stretching my relaxers and moisturizing regularly has helped reduce breakage. I think if this is your basis then you'll do great. Good luck on your journey!
Ah, thanks so much. This is great motivation :) I'm 16 and I get my hair relaxed about every 7-8 weeks. And I wash it at the salon every 2-3weeks. I'm thinking about stretching them. My hair grows pretty fast, but it breaks and loses moisture a lot.
And also is your hair think? Mine is pretty thin. And I'd love to just get thicker hair more than length, really.
Thanks geekintheblue!, my hair was VERY thin when I started, it's not super thick now, but it's a lot thicker than it was before. My recommendations for thick hair is to put the comb down, or try to comb less often, deep condition w/ jbco or regular castor oil, do frequent dustings and stretch your relaxer as long as your hair can take it...
Inspirational, I just started a hair regimen less than a week ago and I hope I see results like you and all the other African American women who stuck to taking better care of their hair!!

@dramamama7889 JBCO is jamaican black castor oil- generally any castor oil is GREAT for your hair - not the cream but the oil.

MsAsb1990 2 years ago
@MsAsb1990 its jus coz i thnk natural hair is so beautiful and not enuf blak womenfeel that it is. i dont belive that there is suchthing as "good hair" just coz urhair is "nappy" or thick or short that dosnt make it badhair. many blak ladies say they relax it coz its easier to manage but thats coz in the media theydnt tel us about our hair or thebest way to take care of itso we hav to find out 4 ourselvs... afrohair is so beautiful &it needs tobe shown coz it CAN grown long... that was what ment

Thanks, it is hard to stay away from heat, but it'll definitely be worth it. Try protective styling, washing and conditioning wkly and moisturizing nightly... keeping it simple is the best way to go... HHG!

1 more thing.
i just purchased the JBCO like 2 wks ago
& havent yet started my journey yet (im waiting til jan to start) .. but anyways can i apply the JBCO after a perm or will it burn my head?
because my goal is to get my last perm in Jan. 2010 & then start applying the JBCO for my challenge..
LADiiSHAE09 2 years ago
No, it won't burn if you apply it after conditioning and drying your hair. JBCO is very thick and heavy though so I wouldn't apply it to my scalp if I ws wearing my hair straight, only my edges..

Ok. Thanx! :)

your hair is truly gorgeous
it's long and healthy
i want to grow my hair out too, but what shampoo and conditioner do you recommend?
kjll42d 2 years ago
Thanks so much... I think Cream of Nature has great shampoo and conditioners. For shampoos I also like Nexxus therape, Mizani Bontafying, Pantene Pro-V relaxed and natural and Joico Moisture recovery. For conditioners my hair likes Mizani moisturfuse, ORS replenishing, Nexxus Humectress and Redken Smooth Down Butter... I say my hair b/c not everything works for everyone. You should definitely sample out different products and see what your hair responds to. HTH

Your hair is amazing! You air dry your roller set or do you use a hooded dryer?
huneebunch1901 2 years ago
Thanks hunee... if I'm being lazy around the house then I'll air dry my roller sets, if I'm in a rush or want to get it over with then I'll use the dryer...

Hi, your haire looks great.
When, you say no heat do you mean not heat at all?
gemmisco 2 years ago
yes she means no heat at all. I have been on my hair care journey for about 6 months now. My hair has grown and thicken soo much. Heat breaks the hair and strip the natural oils on the hair. check out the hair blogs those girls are wonderful. they will help you. If i did it you can aswell.
nightime1000 2 years ago
Yep, for about 6 months or so at the begining of my journey I didn't use heat at all, I only air dried my hair. Now I use direct heat about 3-4 times a year.
kami11213 2 years ago
you didn't even use rollers? please can i ask you some advice, because i'll like my hair to grow a bit more. Thank you.
gemmisco 2 years ago
no, I washed or co-washed and bunned... I left it like that until I washed again... did that for 6 months then I started rollersetting...
kami11213 2 years ago
your hair seemed so unhealthy at first, i can tell the differnece, for soem reason it seems thicker, and shinier!
cammpyluv 2 years ago
Girl after watching this video I started to link one of my videos! I have just went back to relaxed after being natural for 5 or 6 years and I made a video of my transition. I am getting soooooooooo much heat from people who dont think your hair can be relaxed and healthy! You are proof! Hell I am proof! Im sure you get those type of comments too. Your hair is beautiful and I hope to get to that length within the next year. HHG!!!
GucciGyrl1229 2 years ago
I do get a lot of those "you should be natural b/c it's better" comments... but you are right, you can have healthy relaxed hair. I just subscribed to your channel :-) Thanks for the compliment and good luck on your new relaxed journey!

10081991Nsexy 2 years ago
Hey Nsexy, thanks so much for subscribing and congrats on starting your hair care journey!
I relax about 3-4x a year, so that's around every 4 months or so... I'm currently on a 6 month stretch and so far have relaxed twice this yr.
I love creme of nature products and it sounds like you have a good regimen going. The only advice I would give is to keep it simple. I think low manipulation and minimum heat is key to growing your hair out. HHG!
kami11213 2 years ago
you have some of the best hair i have seen ..its thick, full, and healthy
i hope i can get my hair that thick with my jbco..great job
JuelzThaHustler 2 years ago
Thanks so much... I love JBCO!.. it's really help thicken my hair up
kami11213 2 years ago
was your hair shaft already thick or did it get thick over time
anointedplus 2 years ago
I had thick hair as a child, but it thinned out a lot over the years b/c of over processing...
kami11213 2 years ago
did you just put it on your scalp or all over
anointedplus 2 years ago
I usually put a tbl spoon into my conditioner mix... I was also massaging a dime size amount around my edges and temple...Never on my scalp though b/c it's too heavy
kami11213 2 years ago
how did u get your hair to thicken up
anointedplus 2 years ago
Definitely Jamaican Black Castor Oil... I love that stuff and have been using it for a 1 1/2 years faithfully.. I started to notice thickness after about 3 months or so of consistent use...

Your hair did grow..did the balding in the front improve?.....keep in mind that relaxer cause gangrene of the scalp....not very INTELLIGENT to use these product to have long hair...my hair is almost to my buttocks and that's without chemicals.
faynadia 2 years ago
Yes, relaxers can cause a myriad of damage, I am fully aware of that... However, I'm not using these products for the purpose of long hair. It's a styling choice for me. I am fully aware I can also have long hair naturally, that's obviously not my preference at this point in time. And Yes the balding did improve and yes my hair has grown... the balding did not stem from relaxers, it came from micro braids and weaves.

Gorgeous hair! What products were you using as you grew your hair?
tamonibe1 2 years ago
Thanks lady! I'm a huge Mizani fan, so I was mostly using the Bontafying shampoo and Moisturefuse conditioner... To moisturize I use Nexxus Humectress, which is heavy and super moisturizing when air drying and a lighter one like NTM or HE LTR when wearing my hair straight

I'm on my journey, could you give me some tips? I would like to reach bra strap length, right now i'm a little above shoulder length.
ladiig0tswaqq 2 years ago
What's helped me is keeping it simple and leaving my hair alone as much as possible, so only combing once a week, bunning most days out the week, washing and DC 1x a week... Also stretching my relaxers and moisturizing regularly has helped reduce breakage. I think if this is your basis then you'll do great. Good luck on your journey!
kami11213 2 years ago
your hair is gorgeous!

Did you trim your ends before you starts your journey ??
lelouiz 2 years ago
Nope, I was told I should but b/c of all the damage, but I opted to let it grow out and dust...
kami11213 2 years ago
Ah, thanks so much. This is great motivation :) I'm 16 and I get my hair relaxed about every 7-8 weeks. And I wash it at the salon every 2-3weeks. I'm thinking about stretching them. My hair grows pretty fast, but it breaks and loses moisture a lot.
And also is your hair think? Mine is pretty thin. And I'd love to just get thicker hair more than length, really.
geekintheblue 2 years ago
Thanks geekintheblue!, my hair was VERY thin when I started, it's not super thick now, but it's a lot thicker than it was before. My recommendations for thick hair is to put the comb down, or try to comb less often, deep condition w/ jbco or regular castor oil, do frequent dustings and stretch your relaxer as long as your hair can take it...
kami11213 2 years ago
You have gorgeous hair! It helps me to believe that it is attainable with just a bit of hard work. Thanks for sharing.
