Tire Rack should be called Tire Rats. Don't buy tires from them. They don't stand behind their warranty. I had a new tire blow out and the other 4 were bad when examined. Tire Rack won't warranty them and neither will the tire company. Don't make the mistake of buying tires online. Tire were meant to be bough locally. Trust me. In the long run, it's worth the extra money you might pay at your local tire shops.
@DC08SI Get off your high horse. I said SOMETIMES. I currently have 4 vehicles, 3 of them have 4 new tires. The other has 2 new tires and 2 at about half tread. I didn't say I did that all the time.
Incredible! I have been agonizing over replacing the 4/32 pair of rear tires on my truck for weeks now, but been trying to find out if I really NEEDED to, before dropping $260.00 for a pair of new ones! This answered my question perfectly! I know now it will be perfectly safe to wait a few more weeks till I get income tax money, rather than break the bank now!
I just have to say that I really appreciate what is said after 3:23 that is a fair statement. It would be nice to see how the tires perform at each 1/32nd between new and legal limit to make a more informed decision as to when. I am not really happy with the 100 feet added to my stopping distance with 4/32nds
There is a mathematical formula that determines how much breaking force can that can be applied to a particular vehicle. For some front wheel drive vehicles with almost twice as much weight on the front than the rear ,newer tires on the rear will decreases stopping distance by 25 percent..
dont trust these guys....bullshit tests.

I'm a danger to society. Sometimes I have to wait until I have wire showing. Flame on. But I can't always afford new tires right away.

@LtBullitt351 Then you can't afford to safely drive. Why risk your life and others?

Great video... Gives good side by side comparison and also shows how to read the tire depth guage which I could not find in other videos.

Impressive stuff indeed. Now how about the same test only with tires ranging from almost flat to inflated to sidewall max.

This video is fantastic! Great visual measurements for the consumer to make a informed decision on when to change their tires.
