in my opinion casting 160 yards is pointless - your in the wrong spot if you have to cast that far, and its hard on the fish you plan on fighting in 160 yards, by time you get the fish in, the fish needs a long and hard revival - I could be wrong though - any thoughts?
@apeioj in some cases fishing 160 yards is pointless an not necessary, however fishing large waters in Europe, you need to be able to fish at distance so it is an important skill to have.
an i dont see how it can be hard on a fish hooking it at 160 yards, it will not take longer to get the fish in, your still going to have at least a 10 min fight.
i have found that in stead of casting over head going from the side and getting kind of a step hop you can get a real good trajectory and get a good cast but not quite as accurate, what opinion do you guys have on that?
If you're interested in long casting for it's own sake and not fishing you are correct. However, I prefer the overhead cast for fishing because it allows me to cast in between trees, fisherman, and other obstacles. Any kind of side cast requires that you have no person or object on that side for a good 20 feet or more and that just isn't practical in many fishing scenarios. With the overhead cast someone can be standing right next to me and there is no danger of hitting them.

At 180 yards the line is a solid 150 yards into the woods at my favorite spot.
