My daughter started pulling at 8 years she was completely bald by in 3rd grade and had to wear a wig. But there is hope! She is in 7th grade now and has a full head of hair! She still pulls at times but not enoughto be noticable. Cutting down suger in her diet helps alot!!! Also taking the suppliments Inositol and NAC. I hope this helps. We have been to TLC's retreats and confrences and they were wonderfully helpful!
It's all about having motivation and never giving up. Everyone who' suffering from trich: don't give up. Even if you're like me and you can't quit cold turkey, just keep on trying. What I find that helps is doing other compulsive things that are similar to trich; for example, pulling out down feathers out of a jacket/blanket/etc. What also helps is positive encouragement rather than negative comments from others.
I've been doing it since I was 15 and a half (I'm 20 going on 21 now) and I'm finally starting to stop. It's an extremely slow and extremely hard process but this has been the most success I've had with quitting pulling. I can't stop cold turkey, but I'm definately doing a lot better than the many other times I've tried to quit. It was my eye brows and eye lashes that I mainly pulled and, thanks to help and encouragement from my fiance, my eye brows are starting to come back in
I've been at it now for 36 years. im 39. There is nothing we can do yall. I have to wonder how different my life might have been had i been "normal." I feel like Ive wasted my life. And over something so stupid I cant believe I still cant control. I wish I knew someone else with this curse. I feel cursed. and alone.
you havent wasted your life, dont think that. im a 16 year old male, and have had it for six years. you arent alone, and plenty of people feel like this.
i miss u guys so much! i wish i could go to the retreat this year!
for all of you that havent been to one i highly advise it. I dont pull for a while after i go because everyone there is just so much help! i love you guys!
Tessa, you have to keep trying and trying and trying....and if you can't stop cold turkey, that is OKAY. Keep trying and you will see that you can improve a little at a time.......it takes TIME. Don't give up.
i just found out about trichotillomania, and its so weird because i have been pulling on my head hair for a while now and i thought it was a freak thing that only i did. i get an itch and i start pulling hair from my crown area. on top of that my hereditary hair loss is showing up and it doesnt help my low self esteem. this year has been full of blessings for me.
I have this disorder and I pull hair from my fingers, toes, face, and ears. I have pulled some out of my head, but stopped because I found it just too painful and disfiguring. I know that some people do this, but I also understand that this disorder comes in different forms.
its in the brain and there is proof people need to stop the hate this disorder is brutal i have it

I have also pulled out eyelashes and I even go into my ears with a pair of tweezers sometimes.

I have had this for years..it started in 6th grade for me!
I am now 45 years old!
I almost had eyelashes recently..but because I have picked them so long..they grow in odd..and they make my eyes itch like crazy!
I ended up pulling most of them out..but, I DO keep trying to regrow them anyways!!
thanks for the video!!
