i am new to beekeeping. i have found that when i let the honey drain from the comb and filter it, that its a different color than when i crush the comb and filter it. when crushed, the honey is much lighter in color and cloudy. is this ok? i have seen others doing it in this manner. i let drain what i could (dont have an extractor), then i crushed the comb into a thick oatmeal like pulp and let it drain. is honey ok to consume/sell???
I'm not the beekeeper, my friend is. I have read the less that is done to the honey, the better it is for you, that the honey you can buy at the store in the little plastic bears isn't that good for you.
Hello Tina. This is my friend Rob. He and I attended Gem State Academy in Caldwell, Idaho when we were in high school. I haven't had contact with him since I was 15 years old and we just found each other on Facebook.
My grandfather had honey bees in North Carolina when I was a kid (and before). I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE honey comb to chew on, even after all the honey is out of it. Nature's chewing gum! Does your friend sell any of the honey comb with some honey in it? Did I mention I'm rather fond of the honey comb? Most of the h.c. I've had recently is very soft and doesn't last long at all for chewing. :( Thank you for the video.
If you find out, please let me know. All I can get locally is very small pieces of honey comb that is very soft and very disappointing. Thank you, Ann
My friend sent me these photos and I turned them into a YouTube slide show. He hasn't even seen it yet. I'm waiting for his approval ........... there are some things I could do to make it more interesting but am waiting for his OK to go ahead.
I've discovered bees won't bother you if one comes near if you stay perfectly still. It's when you wave all around and frighten them that they get scared and sting. Seriously!
I noticed that when they are swarmed around my flowers. When I am still and watch them...they fly all around me and never land on me or sting me. They just ignore me.
neat video this will be as close to a bee hive that I will hopefully ever come in contact with in my life lol. Scared to death of bees I turn in to a screaming girl from just one. Lord knows I would have a heart attack if I walked around the corner and seen all them bees!!
You had me until I saw the Carolina towel. Go Pirates! AAAARGH!
Good pictorial though; I'm hoping to extract next weekend, provided Mother Nature heats this place up a bit!

Good informative video. If you want to learn more about bee keeping and harvesting your own honey, I recommend this site:

He does it for a hobbie and doesn't sell the honey. He gives it away.
