My own brother is 34, a food stamp scam artist. The other day he begins bragging about his Food Stamp card. He casually says that he doesn’t really need the Assistance (“but hey, I qualify, so what the hell”). He explained how he loves to buy luxury foods and how he used $80 worth of government money to make a “raw” pie. Yes, one pie. He basically admitted to us, without shame, that he’s abusing the welfare system...keep in mind, this is a person who is 34 and able-bodied, just lazy as shit.

People need to learn personal responsibility! And it is sad that a majority of this happens to inner city folks and blacks in particular. @silverdollar003 Let me clarify. We were getting close to $400 when I was stuck on unemployment. And when I found a job, we only got like 250 or so. Now my wife also works, but we still receive the benefits ($120) because we are still below the required amount. I am hoping that in the next few weeks we can be off them completely. They were sure a help, but as a father, a husband and just a man in general, I feel ashamed to be on them period.

It has nothing to do with race, however it seems that the majority of people on stamps are black, but as I mentioned before, it is mostly low-income families and most of whom are in the inner city areas. I think these benefits are wonderful for those who truly need it, however I know that too many people abuse these programs. And it's quite sad.

I had someone complain, behind me in line, because they over charged me a dollar. I pay cash, that dollar means something to me. She zipped around me, with three carts to another line and asked if they take EBT. She never watched her prices though. Guess it's easier to let $ go when they aren't yours.

People should receive drug/alcohol tests prior to getting Food Stamps. People should also have criminal background checks. @GamingPalooza i work with the community & they give out free laptops you only have to go every Sat. for a certain No# of weeks but guess what some of the ppl show up ...get the laptop...and dont take the classes...then when y the system just last week we had a discussion at the board meeting in how we can solve a problem about why 2,3, 4 yeah old are walking down to the center when they are having a bible steady but al they want to do is eat .the program is realy for 5-10 yr olds ..no parents..

1) usually when you see ppl on assistant they have brand named phones (iphones, HTCs, etc etc lol..even with the assisted phone services your not going to get those brands)

If people need assistance with food, they should receive a bucket full of nutritional kibble once a month. Thats also what they should serve in jail. I'm not talking about dog food. There are thousands of people receiving food stamp assistance that are WORKING Americans that qualify and receive food stamp assistance. Not everyone that you see using an ebt card has no job. If you are 18-50, you have to work to receive food stamps.

My household gets foodstamps. My husband and I both work. Just w/ our income alone we have nothing left over for food after bills. We average 13-14,000yr before taxes. It really sucks. My job is not giving hrs. I get about 5hrs/wk On the news they are saying that the recession is over but what's really going on is Employers are not hiring. I'm currently in school studying to be a CMA. 9 months to go and hopefully a new career as well.

@silverdollar003 Let me clarify. We were getting close to $400 when I was stuck on unemployment. And when I found a job, we only got like 250 or so. Now my wife also works, but we still receive the benefits ($120) because we are still below the required amount. I am hoping that in the next few weeks we can be off them completely. They were sure a help, but as a father, a husband and just a man in general, I feel ashamed to be on them period.

1) usually when you see ppl on assistant they have brand named phones (iphones, HTCs, etc etc lol..even with the assisted phone services your not going to get those brands)

There are people who really need food stamps because they have been unemployed and actively searching for a job, and there are those who would rather live on government assistance all their lives. How about revamp the Food Stamp Program - Make it like WICK .. Make it so they have to swipe the card BEFORE they get the groceries scanned. - If it's Chips, Soda, Cookies or candy - they don't get it - It would be SIMPLE to get a list of UPC's from the manufacturers of Lays, Mars, Pepsi, Keebler, and build one long data base to FILTER the purchases. THAT would help END Obesity!!

My household gets foodstamps. My husband and I both work. Just w/ our income alone we have nothing left over for food after bills. We average 13-14,000yr before taxes. It really sucks. My job is not giving hrs. I get about 5hrs/wk On the news they are saying that the recession is over but what's really going on is Employers are not hiring. I'm currently in school studying to be a CMA. 9 months to go and hopefully a new career as well.

@dejuanptv You dont want to be them because what happens is, the kids eventually get grown then you see them living and doing all bad because they cant care for themselves. When your use to depending on the system its hard to make it on your own. I dont want to be hindered and im so damn glad I dont have to go down to DHS and stand in a long ass line for welfare or anything else. Most of them have nothing to retire on, like 401k, pension plan and good insurance.

He could have nice shit in his house too if his rent was $25 a month and he got free food and vouchers to pay his utilities.
