  • I'd give my right arm for one of these station wagons.

  • These big station wagons had like the most comfortable ride you could get in a car. I kind of miss them actually (I had a 67 Fairlane four door, okay not a station wagon but it would still take you in absolute comfort anywhere you wanted to go). Now I own a 97 Nissan Maxima that although not bad is not nearly as comfortable or pleasurable to drive as these older cars.

  • That 70' show<33

  • Eric Foreman

  • Were hanging out...... Down the street

  • You can literally cruise the vistas

  • 11 windows huh? i can just picture a hail storm after buying that car...

  • @munfmunf4boisdinner - If you count the crank-operated vent windows, there are actually 13 windows! Yes, I remember a hailstorm in my '69 Vista. I had to put a sheet of plywood over the skylights. What's worse is that many of these cars developed leaks around the skylights.

  • forman

  • Its the Vista cruiser u can cruise the Vista

  • Hangin' out, down the street, the same old thing, we did last week. Not a thing to do, but TALK to you. We're all all right, we're all all right! HELLO WISCONSIN!

  • Nie ma to jak zgrywać video z kompa kamerą i wrzucać na youtube :P +5 do zajebistości :)

  • All football players in 1969 could afford was a Vista Cruiser.

  • Jeeze, ya wouldn't think the tail end would be draggin' loaded with people in the COMMERCIAL?!

  • Oh. The VISTA cruiser.

  • I love the look of Oldsmobile Vista Cruisers, as well I am found of oldsmobiles.

  • Haha the only problem is i dont have any spare vistas to cruse

  • 1972 Custom Cruiser sales were 14,000 while the final LWB Vista Cruiser sold almost 32,000 units. The Vista Cruiser served Olds quite well in the medium-priced wagon segment. The only criticism one could make is that it was a full-size car based on a mid-sized model and thus probably did not receive the "respect" it deserved.

  • The Vista Cruiser, while based on the mod-sized Cutlass Cruiser, had a 121"wb versus the Cutlass Cruiser's 116"wb, with all of the added length dedicated to the second seat row. This compares favorably to the Impala's 119"wb. The Vista Cruiser was 77.2 inches wide compared to the Impala's 80 inches. Thus the Vista Cruiser was competative with the B-body wagons in terms of size and capacity and sold quite well through the end of the 121"wb series in 1972.

  • thats a vista cruiser. you can litteraly cruise the vistas.

  • Did oldsmobile test this car to see if it could literally cruise the vistas

  • ... I hate videos of videos. Try original content instead of recording your computer screen.

  • Detroit Lions lol

  • i search the car , just because i saw it on ``that`s 70 show `` :D

  • @YOCOSMINMAX16 Yeah.. Formans or the win :D

  • "you can cruuuuise the vista." Red Foreman (while high)

  • thats a car

  • anybody remember when Oldsmobile was caught putting Chevrolet engines in their cars? The way you knew you had one was the distributer was on front of the engine on one and the other it was on the back. But from what I understand it was mostly on the Cutless Supreme that happenned on.

  • @Manongjojo That started in 1977. Wasnt Olds fault. GMs bad decision. There was a shortage of Olds 350 engines around this time as Olds was beginning to sell a million cars a year around this time AND THE OLDS MOTORS WERE MAKING THEIR WAY INTO PONTIACS AND BUICKS! especially in California emission cars and high altitude states. Of the the 109,000 79 Pontiac Trans Ams sold in 1979 92,000 had 403 Olds engines. I think the Chevy motors started in the Delta 88 instead of the Cutlass.

  • @vistacruiser67 You are correct as I knew someone who had a Delta 88 with a Chevrolet engine.

  • @vistacruiser67 My Grandparents had a 1977 Cutlass Supreme that turned out to have the Chevrolet 350 in it. If I recall, GM sent them either 500.00 or 1000.00 credit on their next GM car. 76 and 77 I think the Cutlass was the best selling car in America. The motor locked up on their Cutlass with 86,000 miles on it. I had it moved to the barn, they have a farm, both are gone but the farm is still in our family. I just have not gotten around to getting someone to restore it. Body is in great shape

  • @Manongjojo Wasn't in the world then, but I've heard the story. It seems that GM didn't get the message and realize their customers actually *cared* about the difference between an Olds and a Chevy. Instead they just flipped everyone the finger and standardized the engines as corporate-wide.

I think GM ruined their divisions by trying to "eliminate redundancies" in the equipment, which ironically just watered down the differences until the brands themselves were redundant.

  • @Manongjojo - The easiest way to tell is if the oil filler is on the front of the engine or on the valve cover. The Olds engines had a filler tube next to the water pump, while Chevy used a cap on the valve cover.

  • @Manongjojo Chevy motors were the big sellers and were more easy to work on compared to the others. Soon after that in 1977, GM began using engines from other divisions in other GM makes to protect themselves.

  • no wonder GM is not selling cars anymore, today cars are just ugly

  • Yep - an Electra wagon with the nice interior was a damn nice car to travel in.

Friend of mines dad had the '74 electra 225 Limited with black button tufted leather--might as well be a cadillac as smooth as that car rode--really nice, even todays cadillacs dont ride like that.

  • Youtube video of a Youtube video... wow, that's original!

  • The Ford Country Squire LTD was the #1 selling wagon during this period as it had the superior 3 way tailgate compared to GM's and Chrysler's 2 way tailgate.

  • Olds didnt have a full size wagon like the Country Squire from 65-70. Vista Cruiser is based on the Cutlass line which would compete against Torino or Fairlane wagons if your a Ford enthusiast. GM introduced the clamshell tailgate on fullsize wagons from 71-76: Olds Custom Cruiser, Chevy Kingswood Estate, Pontiac Grand Safari, and whatever Buick had. Olds were higher priced than Ford. Chevy would be a better comparison since both Ford and Chevy are budget priced high volume models.

  • i want a car like that.

  • can u still buy this car today

  • you can litteraly cruise the vistas!

  • lol thats from red that 70 shows

  • Nice! Thanks for the look

  • This was one of GM's experiments that actually worked . It had more cargo space and legroom than a full sized wagon, but weighed less and got better mileage. It sat a third of the way between a wagon and an minivan. It actually took the place of Oldsmobile's full sized wagons until '71.

  • Yes the Vista Cruiser worked well and there were no full size Olds wagons from 65-70.

  • It has room for 9 passengers!

  • Ted needs a new car.Does this one float?

  • HA HA!! He missed 1:27 XDDDDDD

  • It's the same car on "That '70s Show". God, I love that show!

  • PIMPIN

  • I like the station wagon, but "pimp" is part of the disgusting african jungle culture's unfortunate bastard "ghetto".

  • to hell with all this "pimp" shit! You are gross!

  • I'm almost 6'3" and can stretch out in the back of a '69 Vista with the back seat(s) folded down, my head against the back of the front seat - and still have a couple inches between my feet and the tailgate.

I have joked for many years that you can "69 in my '69". ;-)

  • pimpmobile

  • wow "vista" ey? i bet bill gates still drives this thing around !

  • I read an old Hot Rod magazine some years ago, that stated the fastest car top speed produded for ( I think 1970 or '71)was the Vista Cruiser. Something like 147MPH top speed , out of the dealer. I think it was the 455 with tall gearing. No BS

  • I had a 1971 Vistacruiser, I so loved that car; I wish I could find and afford to have another one before I die

  • The car probably COULD fit about 10 football players in full pads. Pile in, guys! Beers are on me!

  • You can fit about 5 full cases of Yuengling Lager bottles (a good Pennsylvania beer) in the secret compartment under the cargo floor, too!

If you were to turn the compartment into a cooler chest, you could easily fit 8-10 cases of loose beer bottles in there - along with 50-100 pounds of ice!

  • this fact is incredible !! Yuengling is a amber beer that gives you a different buzz !! I know a girl who was house sitting her dads house in Deer Lake Pa. and she went into her dads garage and found a case of Yuengling. i asked do you know where that beer is made? ? she said no ? i said right up the street in Pottsville Pa !!!!! LOL

  • I'm more partial to Yuengling's Black & Tan or their Porter myself. ;-)

Bill in Bucks County - my 3rd '69 Vista since 1982 awaits restoration at my mom's house 9 miles east of Hershey, PA.

  • they should make a pickup truck tail gate like that!!, ford now has this vista window option in the ford edge and flex, funny how old ideas are new again!!

  • They do have a pickup truck tailgate like that.

It's standard on the Honda Ridgeline.

  • I forgot to mention that the Ridgeline also has the lockable "secret compartment" under the cargo floor that the Vista Cruiser was known for.

  • Honda should transform the Ridgeline into a sister SUV.

Honda should incorporate a Vista Cruiser-style roof, the "Dual-Action" tailgate, a third row of seating and the "secret compartment".

I'd be among the first in line to buy that car!

  • Honda should stick to eco cars.

  • Vista Cruiser is more of a CAR and a TRUCK than the ridgeline haha.

  • thats the car off of that 70's show!

  • I had a 70 Vista Cruiser & a 66 Buick Sportwagon. Those glass top cars ROCK!

  • man, i bought this car new in 69 and i had it for 10 years and then the car went out and i had to junk it but boy it was a nice car

  • nice wagon I have a 1983 buick le sabre estate wagon jacked up in the back with slicks. Some people love but some people dont.

  • GEORGE KNEW HIS STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great classic man, Those big machines would really move out too, my cousins had a '74 Vista Cruiser with the 455, enjoyed the look on some of those ricer drivers faces when they got dusted by that beast. Surprised a few 5.0 Stangs as well.

  • The Vista Cruiser YahooGroup, the main message board for the GM Skywagon Club, had a very memorable post early in its history, called "The Top 11 Reasons To Own A Vista Cruiser".

    #1, posted November 4, 1999, was:

Going down to the teenager's cruise spot and spanking poser trash-can-exhaust Hondas with an old station wagon is just too much fun.

  • The complete "Top 11" (part 1):

    Yes, it's a slow day at work. . .

    11. Leaky roof windows allow the car to double as a greenhouse.

    10. Seats 8 (if you have the 3rd seat). 4 REAL SIZED adults and 4 kids fit comfortably.

    9. Taking the family to Disneyland in a Mini-Van just isn't the same.

    8. You can stargaze while you're sleeping in the back.

    7. No more defensive driving. 2 1/2+ tons, 19+ feet, and 250hp of American steel say offensive driving is where it's at.

  • The complete "Top 11" (part 2):

    6. The frequent stops for gas give you plenty of time to wash the thirteen windows.

    5. Easier to parallel park than the Queen Mary.

    4. Corners sharper than a stampeding herd of buffalo.

    3. You now have an excuse to build that bigger garage you wanted.

    2. Due to a little-understood phenomenon, an old wagon with woodgrain paneling is nearly invisible to traffic police.

    1. (Already posted!)

  • By the way, the Vista Cruiser YahooGroup just celebrated its 10th anniversary on May 15, 2009.

  • Yeah Man! Classic, I loved blowing those ricers off the road with my '77 Cutlass and '87 442, used to laugh when I looked over at a stoplight when they would start reving their "Briggs & Stratton" under the hood. They would just turn off at the next availible street and hide never to be seen again for the rest of the night. Most of these kids today don't know what real muscle is and thats a shame.

  • Dude, I'd kill to have a nice, Brown wood Vista Cruiser!! I Love themm!

  • I'd like to get my hands on a nice vista- A guy by me sellin' a 70 vista, not sure if its a big block. he wants 6k for it, rally wheels and looks pretty clean/complete. Needs sheetmetal work-

  • My parents had a Vista Cruiser - it was always my favorite childhood car...It would really take-off when Mom floored the gas pedal! haha If you count the vent windows on the 69 - it has 13 windows!

  • i live in the uk and im 18 i love that 70's show and dammn i want a vista cruiser like the one in the show that cars got so much charecter lol

  • We had a '69 Vista Cruiser! Silvery blue. Thanks for posting this! It was annoying on "That 70s Show" that they always emphasized the "cruiser" part to suggest that the car was huge. It really wasn't that big. Later, we had a '74 Custom Cruiser which really was huge.

  • Ive currently got three Vistas: two 71s and a 70 which are featured on our other videos. Thank you for your kind comments.

  • I'll check those vids out. After we got our '69 when I was a kid, two of our neighbors got '70 Vista Cruisers the following year, a yellow one and a brown one.

  • I also had a 69 Vista Cruiser around 1999. It was originally light green with light green interior and the previous owner painted it white. I also had a much harder to find 69 Cutlass Cruiser wagon without the roof glass and on the shorter 4 door wheelbase. Unfortunately it was wrecked and totalled out.

  • This month (December 2007) marks the 25th anniversary of my falling in love with the 1969 Vista Cruiser, just before my 19th birthday.

I owned two of them back in the 1980s. The first was wrecked and the second one died with just over 200K miles.

After a 15-year search, I finally found my third '69 Vista Cruiser in 2004. All three were bought from their original owners.

  • At least Mr. Plimpton pronounces "Vista Cruiser" correctly, with the emphasis on "Vista", unlike "That '70s Show" which emphasizes "Cruiser". ;-)

Thanks to vistacruiser67 from the entire GM Skywagon Club!

  • This is awesome "vistacruiser67", like I said last week - I'd been looking for some late 60s Olds Commercials. Thanks. I'll check your other ones out too. Hey do you know if all 68-72 vistas had the top windows with that tint to let the light in w/out the heat, or did some have regular clear glass on those top windows?

  • They all were tinted but some were smoked tinted and others were mirror tinted.

  • Thanks. I thought there was some differences because I'd seen different looks from one to the other - the smoke to mirror, etc is what I was seeing. Glad they all had some kind of tint--for us that live in the heat of the midwest or south. For only being 3-5 years later than those other mid sixties Shorty Powers Olds commericials, there's a lot of difference in the commercials. In the late 60s times were a'changing fast.
