David Holls did have a great deal of influence, but it was Bill Mitchell who ultimately signed off on the design. MItchell's ultimate ideas, however, are found in the 63 Riviera, the 67 Eldorado, etc.
ESTOS VEHICULOS SON UNA JOYA DE LA HISTORIA AUTOMOVILISTICA MUNDIAL, ESTILO, BELLEZA, COSAS QUE HOY DIA ES CASI IMPOSIBLE ENCONTRAR EN ALGUN AUTOMOBIL, YO TUVE UNO IGUAL PERO 1959 Y UN 4 PUERTAS 1960, SENCILLAMENTE ESPECTACULARES
I TRULY CAN'T make up my mind what's more breathtakingly exquisite....The Eldo or Stan Kenton's magnificent "Early Autumn"!!! Everyone's right in that this year, the '60 model is infinitely more elegant, streamlined, classic and more cohesively designed from bumper to bumper. Your great eye & steady hand in photographign the car, are in PERFECT keeping with your excellent taste in music, Bud! The only thing that's missing, is a BEATUIFUL woman, in a gorgeous gown from '61! Wonderful, really!
The tail fin shots between 0:17 and 0:26 speak 1000 words, sorry but 1959 was an abomination, the 60 was dripping wih class. Also love the Impalas of this era.
Now on the other side of town we have Chrysler's offerings, which went from a bit homely, to homelier than the edsel, to what did you just hit mister...
I believe David Holls was one of the main designers of the 1960 Cadillac line-up.
He claimed that after all the years of trying to "Get it just right" with the tailfins and appropriate trim he got it all smoothed out and perfectly balanced in the 1960 Cadillac.
Not sure if Harley Earl was involved in the 1960 Cadillac's design- I know he was one of the designers for the 1959 model year. I love 1959 and 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritzs and Sevilles. :)
This 1960 is thee absolute Queen of modern classics. In 1959 they hadn't smoothed the rough profile. In 1961, they pulled back the lines...almost like they were scared to try and one-up the 1960. Does anyone know the name of the GM designer on this vehicle? That person deserves to have their name remembered in association with this beauty.
