were can i get the logan penetrator pellets the ones that look like bullets from in the uk and do you no if anywere in the uk sells the pellets with the metal tips with the plastic coating(hyper velocity pellets) i think they are called
(cont'd) I'm unsure of the legislation where you live, but in my experience I would not suggest shooting anything but small birds, if that, with any less than an 800 fps rated pellet rifle. The 1000fps+ .177's or 800+ .22's in my opinion are far more humane and effective, getting ample penetration even on larger creatures like Groundhogs, Raccoon, and the likes. Using a 600 fps pellet rifle for anything larger than a bird will require deep penetration, and will not work very well.
I'm sorry but this video seems a bit unfocused and makes little sense to me. Mentioning the consideration for tests as well as humane shots is admirable...but to use pellets from a .177 without giving us an idea of the fps isn't very helpful. Furthermore; four layers of tanned leather is far beyond the resistance of any game suitable for a .177, .22, or .25 pellet.
For small game even up to rabbits, penetration will be adequate with an adequate pellet rifle. (cont)
Im happy with my .25 H&N baracudas and silverpoints..But then again,i have a full power webley patriot.Whats the use of a penetration test with a 12 ft/p air rifle i wonder? You really should have your airgun laws looked at,thats ridiculous.
I like squashing the skirt of a .177 into a .22, you can hear certain ones break the sound barrier (light ones obviously). That's more fun that shooting .22s in a .22 rifle.
@gunvidder a friend told me that tin pellets, the soft ones are poisonous if they penetrate your skin and you mustn't eat a bird if it has been pierced with a tin pellet. Is this true? answer me asap cause i' ve eaten a bird with a tin pellet inside ( i put it out before eating)
@MakNCheezed depends for what your using them for if its for hunting i would go ones that dont have so much lead on them so it wont get on your game meat
@ddkntc4lyfe Hobbies arn't that bad, I have found heavier flats seem better though. Saying that,, good for short range especially as they are cheaper than a few others that have no accuracy gain. I'm south of B'Ham.
@The177Hunter Thanks for the sub, I'm getting a selection of .22 pellets together but many of what's available in 177 isn't available in 22 so some comparisons can't be made, like the 177 pellets though I've a good variety & hope to start soon, just a few more different ones to get.
i got a glycerin soap penetration video, i like your high qualiy video closeups on the pellets, and the leather videos i nice to see. the soap i use is sold in blocks at craft stores and i love the stuff.
@gunvidder thanks for reply, also i have some pellet videos in my uploads, you may have to scroll down a bit to see some, the newer one i cast resin down hollow point holes to display pellet and its expansion in solid form to keep for a display.
Well made informative video done with wise words, draw your own conclusions and think what you are going to do with your ammo. The Loguns have best penetration I find but in my HW100 Webley mosquitoes are best for accuracy. the flat heads transfer the most energy into the body of some thing like a rat but when I shoot rats I only shoot at the brain and use Webley mosquitoes, they do go through but still kill instantly!
@JapsEye2 No idea but I'd of thought there would be weak & strong parts so if hit in the right/wrong place I suppose it would smash through at close range. Not easily but just possible.
The temple is very thin but another spot that comes to mind that even some martial artist can poke their finger through your skull; The paper thin bone behind the eye. It requires lots of "hard body training" naturally (=hardening bones and deadening nerves of different body parts, sometimes also fingers.)
The skull is only few news paper pages thick behind the eye, so airgun pellet would penetrate, easy.
Here in the U.S., you can buy any air gun, if you are over 18 years of age. Younger in some places. There are .22 precharged pneumatic air rifles which are as powerful as a .22 short cartridge. There are .25 guns available which will take down jackrabbits and ground hogs. And, finally, there are .45 and .50 caliber air rifles which will take deer , and have up to 300 fpe.
In the United Kindom , do you need a licence to have a pellet gun? Over here in Canada you need a licence (PAL) if your pellet gun shoots over 500 fps.
@ronofontario In the UK there is no licence for any rifle of any cal' under 12ftb energy / power regardless of the pellet speed, if It's over 12ftb energy It's then regarded as a firearm & needs the same licence as a powder burner.
@ronofontario any kind of spring air rifle over 12ftps then yeh you need a section 1 fire arms but any fink under and as long as your 18 or over your fine
@ronofontario, it doesn't make any sense to define the permisible power limit (in Canada) as "500 fps", since power depnds on calibre or weight as well as velocity. Almost certainly, the power permitted is defined in canada, as elsewhere, in energy terms, such as "foot pounds".
@ronofontario No license needed if it dose not have a muzzel energy of more than 12 ft Lbs (foot Pounds) So it is not based on velocity but the energy put in to the pellet. Otherwise You could make a .50 cal pellet gun at 500 fps and do some real damage. For an air pistol it is an energy limit of 6 foot pounds, over that and it becomes a banned hand gun as we can not have hand guns at all any more in the UK. Higher power air rifles can be owned but come under the Fire Arms License rules.
gunvidder, since you seem to be a bit of an enthusiast, perhaps you would be able to enjoy casting the small objects
right away I was wondering about some sort of hard pointy styled pellet, wondering if that would be able to go through the skull better, since you seem to have a pretty good aim
you could make a couple designs and cast them all at once perhaps
of course, this is all being said without any actual understanding of what it takes to cast stuff... lol
I have been very impressed with the HN field target pellets with the hole punching edge. You can cast your own pellets with vulcanizing jewellry mold rubber and a brass lathed master just slightly like 2% over size for rubber shrinkage. Springers are only good if you can cast your own ammo in the bush , co2 is not an option for distances awat from stores.
main problem with testing it like this is that it would probably not do this if you shot a bird or skwirrel. it would probably just go straight through and not expand or deform.
best advice to give is what you said test different pellets, air rifles are very pellet sensitive so what works great and accurate in one model of air rifle will be horrible in another

Judging by their condition I'd say the Logun Penetrator could survive through more layers.
The power limits on UK rifles limits testing somewhat.
Perhaps repeat the test using an FAC power air rifle?

The test was rubbish.

@ronofontario A little bit different, under 12ftb for rifles & 6ftb for pistols don't need a licence, anything more powerfull you need an FAC.
