Well they rescued MY cat off a roof.. that was after we said someone had tried getting to the cat through a skylight window, but it was a bit slippy and he was going to try again later. The operator said 'hmmmm, sounds like we'd better attend'.

The cat had a route down from the roof but was enjoying the weather. Spraying water down onto him made him think it was raining so he ran down. The RSPCA officer present was happy enough with this.
There was a firefighter on Radio 5 today talking about animal rescues, his advice to listeners was not to try and rescue animals themselves but to call the fire service, who are the experts. He did describe having to rescue a large policeman who had become stuck up a try trying to retrieve a cat...which made me chuckle!
And how many skeletons of cats have you ever seen in trees and on roof's.......H&S comes before domestic pets, although our ethos to Save Life, Protect Property and Render Humanitarian Services will always task us to safely rescue animals were possible. Cats usually come down when it rains or they get hungry.....the benefits dont outweigh the potential risks.
only reason they use a hosereel now is because a couple of years ago a fire fighter from gmfrs fell and seriously injured himself so health and saftey and all that says dont go up to rescue any animal
