The Japanese released indonesian politicians that had been jailed by the Dutch. In fact they turned no real power to the Indonesians. The Japanese occupation was a disaster for the Indonesian people. Large numbers were conscripted for forced labor and because of the brutal treatment and poor conditions, many died.

Learn some history, The Brittisch were decolonise already under Clement Attlee, that;s why the Brittisch did't let the Dutch military back to Dutch Indië in the beginning, and the Dutch weren't colonise the land again, but restore order into chaos during that anarchy in the Bersiap period. Not to prevent the Indonesians from gaining independence, but to secure the safety of the Britisch and Amarican civilians, still in the camps at that time, during the Bersiap thousands of civilians died, to prevent more dead people. The Americans were anti colonial, but were no party in the battle, but indirect supported the Dutch military by Marshall help, but stopped if the Dutch didn't end the fightings.
The Japanese only used the Indonesian people for their war.

I think the Japs soldier start to realized what going on in the war they lost... then some of them decided to support indonesian struggle to freedom than re-occupied by Dutch. as an example is Admiral Meida, whose house used by Founding Father to arranged any concepts as a nation.

1942 Japan did invation Indonesia. Some indonesian support it.
1945 Japan did surrender.
After that, Sukarno and Hatta proclaimed Indonesian independence.
But Dutch did not recognize it. So independence war started.

It's from Japanese television. Does this tell you that many Japanese were ashamed to come back, not having died in the war? No. Does it tell you about all the atrocities they committed? No.
Dutch documentaries ALWAYS deal with Dutch atrocities in a truthful and accurate way. Nothing under the carpet, no false excuses. I know about Coen, van Heutz and Westerling.... I know they were butchers. This does not, thus, make the Japanese liberating angels.

If it WEREN'T for the Japs weaponry and combat trainings, the Dutch WOULD take Indonesia BACK.
