  • love the video man

  • great video thanks

  • my gandmother can play better than that >=]

  • Yeah well okay sure go ahead and make me feel all bad and make me think that I have no talent if even a robot can play the violin..,most go watch lindsey stirling for boost in my self-confidence...CAN YOU PLAY LIKE HER MR.ROBOT?!?!?!? Visit lindseystomps channel plz

  • That's cool, but the playing was very mechanical. When they design a robot that can play with as much soul as a human can, then I'll be impressed.

  • Haha, the man at the end who ducked and ran past the camera! LOL

  • podra tocar bien el violin pero no tendra el alma y el sentimiento de una persona como cuando lo hace...pero esta chevere :D

  • The music will die quite soon.. I hope it will be not repeat anymore!

  • wow

  • der geht on fernsteuerung das hab ich aus nem buch der hat n mikro chip hirn

  • this is nice for a robot!!

  • wow!!!

  • D: That robot can play better than me!!!! D:

  • Why nobody clapped? D:

  • The performance seems robotic...................BWahahahhahahahaha!

  • the precision of robotics and computer technology has com a long way

  • fuck this robot

  • This is like a Suzuki´s child

  • haha it is a funny thing :) but no .. music is something a ROBOT or COMPUTER NEVER can do .. Music is a god gift .. ment for the soul ;) .. and .. you need to sell your soul to the music to play it and understand it !

    and Robots NEVER WILL

but hey, this is a fun thing again by those Japanease people haha ! crazy man !

  • @Darkboy2525 robots will make music just as well as any human, maybe better, robots will be better and more efficient than humans in every way, we are god, we can give them the gift. you faaar underestimate technology and overestimate human thinking power. check out "Physics Of The Future" so yeah, peace out mofo

  • @MurdaZen and you FAR underestimate music .. I feel sad for you .. you don´t know what music is about

  • @Darkboy2525 dont feel sorry for me lol i like good music, check out my channel lol might not be your cup of tea obv but i understand a brain can be replicated and i know a computer can be programmed to understand human preferance, shit it can pick up your preferences itself. so eventually i expect computers to be able to freestyle great music for the user.. dont feel sorry for me, i love music, but i love technology too. i understand u need soul to make good original music, its been made tho

  • OK, now tell it to play espressivo.

  • BRAVO! BRAVÍSSIMO!

  • bravo!

  • In case anyone wonders, the robot is playing Edward Elgar's Pomp And Circumstance (:

  • Toyoto is the best!!

  • God, you people are so dark. If you're so fucking worried about all the bad shit in the world- go do something about that yourselves in stead of just typing that crap on the internet. Technology is being improved. No, it's not perfect, of course it's not. But it's a start.

  • Can he fix nuclear power plants? Sony, Honda, Toyota etc all have robots. Send those in to fix up that nuke mess Maybe they can play funeral music and dance for the poor human workers that are irradiating themselves to save others. Give this sucker a fire hose and march his plastic ass in that reactor or spent fuel area and put some water on that mess before it blows up. Maybe it can play "House of Blue Lights" or "Glow Worm". I think I'd be finding new uses for this guy 3 days ago. Sorry

  • Japanese are obsessed with robots like white people are obsessed with dogs. WOW.

  • @MrPoophead1000 single wisest phrase of the whole internet...and you just won one!

  • LOL funny how nobody clapped after it stopped playing

  • @flameofarrow they are asians = emotionless

  • @xicamala Ouch man lol. Well technically I /am/ Asian, but really, it doesn't seem /as/ good as if it was a human violinist, seriously. Also it's a demonstration in an exhibition, and those aren't normal people you're looking at on the seats. If Toyota could make it play Rondo Alla Turca, THEN everyone in the internets will be impressed.

  • @hbar45 aww dont take it serious it was a joke :)

  • @xicamala Ooooh, al'ight then, may peace rain on this Earth... Wait... I think I heard something outside... Servos... Plastic? What kind of terminator is this?

  • @xicamala thats mean :( and not true D:

  • @xicamala unless it's a hentai.

  • @flameofarrow If there were robots in the audience I'm sure you'd hear some clapping from them.

  • @flameofarrow i thought they were gonna clap to haha

  • whats caçion?

  • One question. Why?

  • wow that is awesome

  • @Kardinalloffi So you're getting pissed at Toyota for building a robot that can play violin while you sit around commenting on youtube videos?

    Oh, the irony.

  • he's not even holding the violin properly!

  • @e102ewan SO TRUE! LOLLOLOLOLOL

  • why thefuck do they put their money into someting stupid like that, invest it in people that do not have food, jesus christ toyota go f*ck yourself

  • One day this might be a viability so conductors won't have to put up with the usual mullish bullshine of a bunch of incredible, smart-asses with their heads up their butts.

  • guys there this isnt supposed to sound amazing, its supposed to show progress, even thouhg i think we shouldnt even make robots. Theyre gonna take over the world if we do...matrix

  • 10,000,000$ robot playing 50$ violin neat

  • why is it playing an american song? dumb japs.

  • さすがはトヨタ、パクリがお上手!

    Great TOYOTA! Loves chasing after.

    (They just create copied, Always.)

  • when i was 6, i played my violine better!!!

  • that's a 'touche'!!!!

  • That technology go people Killed.

  • the weirdest vibrato i've ever seen. Now I know why toyota had problems with gas pedals, They're too worried about a robot being able to play the violin...poorly... "ahh we so sorry for roved ones, we bring our violin praying robot to your family funeral." Ever one get free egg roll !!!!!

  • It has a great technique

  • @vimeka10 are u fucking blind?? idiot

  • Take yo yo ma over this shit anyday

  • Is there a human in that thing

  • i like this video, the song is cool, and it is a she! so this is even cooler

  • Can the robot tune the violin too?

  • Fuck!! Robots can do vibrato!!!

  • Holy crap.

  • better use of your time, such as world hunger. Pathetic

  • Well..... back in the old days (1910) the managed it much better !! Like Hupfeld's Phonoliszt-Violina.

  • WHAT THE FUCK!! give that thing a gun and send it to Iraq, that was cool, i agree to, no emotion but w/e

  • woah people need to chill. look im a violin player as well n even though yes i agree there no emotion, u gotta admit this is pretty cool! lol

  • hah MIDI is finally branching to mainstream. which ever mainstream that is.

  • it dont feel right listening by a robot

  • Hmm... FAKE. Vibrato without any movement of the wrist.

  • @552ClanChancellor Its real, there is movement in the actual fingers (not wrist in the robot's case). There is also extra notes because the robot cant lift up the bow, so he plays a "pre note' every once in a while (that sort of resets his position for a long note)

  • @552ClanChancellor Try again. Look closely at its fingers. I'm sure I see them moving independently during the vibratos as opposed to forcing the robot to move its entire wrist.

  • OH MY GOD

  • Then a band of demons joined in and it sounded soething like this....

  • we ruined music long before robot's did

  • @shakemeshakeme more specifically lil wayne and justin bieber

  • They have the hand holding the strings in an unnatural position.

  • Its... pretty simple if you think about it. The fingers are programmed to each song, whilst the other arm is meant to move back and forth, depending on the song. The rest of the body is well, just meant for support

  • wow wtf is this about? I get it that technology is cool, but get it to do something useful like CPR. Music should come from a person, otherwise its 1984.

  • OMG Bring john connor!

  • If only they put this much effort into their cars...

  • OMG IM BLEEDING FROM THE EARS!

  • @VioletxFox

This was meant to be a demonstration of how precise and controlled the robot's movements are. It says all this in the description. It's not meant to be "Music", and its not meant to show that robots can play with soul. Get over yourself.

  • No flash photography! You will distract the Musicians!

  • this shit needs to be blown up

  • great now i can have one at my funeral.

  • Comment removed

  • C'mon man, don't waste your money on useless creations like this. This type of stuff is a complete waste of human resource. Spend it on something more constructive, that would contribute to the human society.

  • @LOLFACEGUY like keeping you quiet?

  • a gay robot.. thats all we need

  • @jj0nathann Sorry, i´m a little lost here,,, did u became a robot?

  • You should better play a CD. What's the meaning ???

  • You people are missing the whole point. This isn't about music or even "soul" that you love so much. This is about technology demonstration of how much Japanese humanoid robotic technologies came to so close to real human. Human-like mechanical wrists, hands and finger are extremely diffucult. It requires lot's of practice us human to acquire skills for to play violin. You should realize how significant this is that Toyota made is possible for a robot to play violin.

  • @Sitti2300 is it going to creat jobs? lol. jk. of course its cool. ill take one. teach it to cook and do laundry. they can take over the role of women.

  • @5506 laundry/cooking robots FTW=D

  • Very interesting. Although I agree that there is no emotion in the performance, I think it's important to understand that Toyota as well as other tech companies aren't going to stop here. These robots are continually being improved and redeveloped as technology gets better and better. I think there will be a time when a robot can play just as emotionally a human, but definitely not anytime soon.

  • Can it be sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor?

  • Why didn't anyone clap for it?

  • Will you marry me?

  • horrible. no emotion. robots will take over by year 3050 if this goes on.

  • I shall call him, MIDI me!

  • my friend is a real hardcore violin player he would really and i mean really get pissed off by this :D got to show him XD

  • in the future...

maybe there will be a "Robot Orchestra" conduct by Mr.Robot

  • fuck that robot his playing was bleak

  • Darn you Toyota..... Music can never be replaced by technology!!!! >:(

  • AMAZING! A wonderful time to be alive!!!!

  • I heard vabrato?? I didnt see the fingers moving....

  • @LeeAzian They do, have a look when they do a specific angle.

  • For everybody talking about a lack soul all I have to say is.

    No Fucking Shit.

A robot playing without soul, what a shocker.

This is showing ability to program and design. And with the want for robots to become more human, and have even greater fine motor skills isn't the perfect thing to do have a robot play a violin? Music is extremely human and the violin requires aforementioned motor skills.

Everybody who talks about a lack of soul needs to look closer and see this for what it really is.

  • ahora que sigue robots que hagan del baño por nosotros jajajajaja¡ impresionante

  • What will they come up with next? Lol, this is awesome!

  • Has there been any problems with sudden acceleration?

  • @doncirelli Ha Ha! :)

  • @doncirelli Yeah, all of a sudden the bow went flying across the room and continued to gain speed for no apparent reason.

  • @doncirelli Only in their drum machines. I hear the live ones have this problem as well.

  • @doncirelli perfect comment, good sense of humor

  • its chromosomes

  • Wow that's great.

  • Oh my god, it's accelerating out of control!

  • COOL! wish it would do more difficult pieces too. awesome start tho!

  • Dios mio, es fenomenal!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • Who's the nut job that decided he'd play Land of Hope and Glory? Its not a very Japanese tune

  • @theyellowfury

    Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto 1st mvt.

  • Oops, pardon my ignorance. I didn't know Tchaikovsky did it first. Its the same tune as Land of Hope and Glory too though which is a really British song. And with that in mind it sounds odd. What do you think.

  • how embarrassing...

I do believe its called Pomp and Circumstance 1 in D Major by Elgar..

yet there was so much confidence.

  • It's a common song of graduation ceremonies. it's commonly played with classical instruments. It shows a cross of international understanding as well as a culmination of efforts. Who's the nut job that got the awesome idea to create a robot that played simple tunes on a violin? He's ^&)%ing awesome!

  • @aenigmaJ Fair point but to me it sounds as british as Winston Churchill and I'll wager I'm not the only one. And in any case its a pretty boring choice of tune, it bored me anyway and I'll wager I'm not the only one there either. Robots are cool, I like them and that's why I watched the video and fine scientists they are who made it and we're all better off, blah blah blah. But when a robot can play Paganini that'll impress me

  • hahaha theyellowfurry, you clearly never graduated from highschool, hm?

  • @hjhq Yes well as your comment shows you can't even read, it would appear to take one to know one but sadly in this case I unlike you have a full set of chromasomes

  • amazing!!!

  • I wanna see one play piano :)

  • This is terrible, though I'm inpressed by the technology, I felt no emotion from that, Music is something that should come from the soul... A robot may be able to play perfectly, but a man can bring you to tears and make emotion shine when he plays with all his heart.

  • @VioletxFox

I do agree with you that the way the music sounded wasn't impressive, however the focus of this isn't how well the robot is playing, but that the robot is playing it period.

It's about the technology, not the music.

  • This makes me very happy. If robots don't get any better than this, my future career as a musician is not doomed. :D

  • lol ;D I hope that goes well for you, I can't play any instruments, though I'm learning how to play the guitar :P

Btw, what instruments do you play?

  • @VioletxFox YOU ARE RIGHT

  • @VioletxFox also, a human being can write music, and improvise.

  • @charvinaldo Ahh, too true, A robot is set to a single melody, whilst a human can add his own to a song. ;)

  • @VioletxFox No importa por que la música es creada por el hombre e interpretada por robots lo entiendes

  • @VioletxFox wow tht brought a tear to my eye lol

  • @VioletxFox what about a woman?

  • @VioletxFox what about a violinist plays his violin and then the robot reproduced the persons action so you can hear it in person. so you can say yeah man i heard that guy play in my town, kewl. lol not.

  • @VioletxFox wow ur a fucking fag, this is much better than any gay fag can do? emotion from the heart? what the fuck did u smoke? fuck you and fuck your violin bitch

  • @VioletxFox I don't know about you, but it brought me to tears, a marvel of engineering.

  • @VioletxFox You can obviously program a robot to play exactly like a human, with soul, emotion and other imaginary things. What you hear is just sound waves, nothing special or unique about it. Personally, I think robots playing instruments is stupid because they can generate sounds directly from their speakers

  • @WhiteRussianBC Emotion is imaginary? Live music surpasses recording flat out. With that said though, I would not want a robot playing an instrument, I prefer when a human plays.

If you could program a robot to play exactly like a human, we would have gotten rid of orchestras by now and replaced them with armies of robots.

  • @XianXiuHong I meant that the emotion you hear in sound in imaginary. As I explained, what you hear is just sound waves, nothing emotional about it. And we wouldn't have replaced orchestras by robots because, as I said, robots playing instruments is stupid because they can generate sounds directly from their speakers

  • @WhiteRussianBC So what I feel when I hear a good performance is imaginary? Sound doesn't transmit emotion, it's an interpretation of the brain but it's the way a performer transmits that sound that would evoke the emotion.

Have you ever been to a *good* live music performance? A recording just doesn't match up to a good live performance. Why do you think so many people prefer going to concerts instead of just listening to recordings all day?

  • @XianXiuHong What I'm saying is that a robot can be programmed to play an instrument exactly like a human would. It doesn't matter if you're at a live performance, you'll still get the same emotions. The players emotions doesn't affect you in any way, so it doesn't technically matter if he's a robot

  • @WhiteRussianBC So why hasn't it been done yet? If it were so simple, there wouldn't be a need for live performers. There's no use arguing this with you.

  • @XianXiuHong It hasn't been done yet because there's no purpose to do it. It's obviously easier to use a human! I never said robots would replace live performers, I just said it's possible

  • @WhiteRussianBC Exactly, its way more fun to do something with no purpose. Like the great Einstein himself once said: "If an idea is not absurd, it will not work" :P

  • @WhiteRussianBC The robot would lack human creativity, so no, it wouldn't be the same.

  • @lilbabygoogoo Human creativity isn't in any way supernatural or illogical, so it can actually be programmed into a robot. Probably not easily, but it's certainly possible

  • @WhiteRussianBC If it's possible, show me some proof.

  • @lilbabygoogoo As I said, it's quite difficult and we haven't achieved this yet. However, Imagination Engines Inc (IEI) have developed a unique neuro-control system that accounts for artificial thought and creativity. Peter Lloyd of IdeaConnection has also written an article about scientific projects that have implemented creativity and other intersubjective psychological components to robots. Amazing work is of course being done in the field of artificial intelligence

  • @WhiteRussianBC Peter Lloyd himself says, "Every time a thinking machine pulls off a stunt like Watson’s victory over undefeated Jeopardy! champ Ken Jennings and top money-winner Brad Rutter, I feel it my duty to assure my readers that a machine will never perform a creative act. Watson will never present us with an invention, innovation, or even a child’s poem. The animal mind remains the unique seat of creativity."

  • @lilbabygoogoo Peter Lloyd is correct in saying that robots do not current expose creativity, and that the animal mind is unique in this sense. However, the human mind is actually a quite simple mechanism. It consists of neurons transmitting electricity and chemicals in different patterns. Theoretically, it can be replicated in a machine. It's of course very difficult, but my original point was that it's theoretically possible

  • @WhiteRussianBC The human brain is generally considered one of the, if not the most complex structure in the known universe, so I don't know where you're getting the idea that it's "quite simple". This is aside from the non-materialist idea that the human mind is composed of more than its material brain (soul, etc). All you are giving me is baseless claims backed up by information that is false and sources that blatantly disagree with your assertions.

  • @lilbabygoogoo The human brain is based on a quite simple mechanism, as I explained. However, this mechanism generates a profound atomism which contributes to the brains natural complexity. I will not adhere to the philosophical branch of dualism, which superposes a non-physical component of the brain. But even though the brain can be very abstruse and complicated (in it's work of course, not it's underlying mechanism), it's still theoretically possible to replicate it

  • @WhiteRussianBC There is still a great deal we don't know about the human brain, so to claim it is replicable based on our incomplete knowledge doesn't hold water. Your claim at our current level of awareness is entirely speculative, and beyond that there may well be physical mechanisms at work that we are totally unaware of at this point. Aside from this, we can't, for example, explain or recreate consciousness, a component without which replication of a human brain or of human creativity is

  • @WhiteRussianBC entirely impossible.

  • @lilbabygoogoo Why are you stating baseless inaccuracies? Everything is replicable in theory, even a natural mechanism such as the human mind. If you completely replicate the mechanism that enables a brain to function, it would obviously have the same result as a real brain, including the creative aspect. There's no supernatural switch required to enable a brain, just the basic substances and neurons. These can be created artificially (in theory), although it's quite difficult

  • @WhiteRussianBC Is my claim that we have not explained or recreated consciousness baseless? Please show me evidence to the contrary. Please show me evidence as well that we fully understand the human brain or that we understand and can artificially recreate artistic creativity. Your argument rests entirely on an unproven assumption based on a simplistic model borne out of incomplete knowledge.

  • @lilbabygoogoo As I've said myself, it's very difficult and has not been achieved yet. However, it's theoretically possible to construct an artificial replica of a human brain, which would contain all aspects of a real brain. Simple logic dictates that everything is replicable in theory. Although to a certain degree I agree with you; it can't actually be effectuated today. Let's end this discussion and leave the problem to future generations

  • @WhiteRussianBC "Simple logic dictates that everything is replicable in theory" What theory is this? Or are you just tagging the words "in theory" to the back of your opinions in hopes of freeing yourself from any burden of proof? If we do not understand everything in the known universe, logic then dictates that we cannot claim that we can certainly recreate everything in the known universe.

  • @lilbabygoogoo Well, I obviously can't prove my claim, because I can't create an artificial brain myself. What difference does it make that humans don't know everything in the universe? I'm not saying humans can create a brain right now, I'm just saying it's possible. Why wouldn't it be? If we know exactly how the brain works (which we do not at the moment, but that's irrelevant), is theoretically possible to recreate it. But no, I still can't prove it. Do I need to?

  • @WhiteRussianBC You claimed that "everything" is replicable, which would mean everything in the universe. If we do not understand everything in the universe, we cannot claim it is replicable. This applies to your claim about the brain, too. Claims need to have some type of factual or logical basis. Unless, then, they are claims of faith, which should be stated as such and shouldn't be passed off as "science".

  • @lilbabygoogoo I believe that everything is replicable. I don't claim that it's replicable at this point in time, or even by humans. I'm just claiming that theoretically all physical entities can be recreated in an artificial manner. You seem to perceive this argument far too specifically, as if I have said humans are able to produce brains in laboratories. I tend to assume the philosophical standpoint, but I still agree that knowledge is required for all scientific replication

  • @WhiteRussianBC It was specific, regarding your claim that we (humans) could completely replicate the human brain, including human creativity, in a robot. Now you're saying this isn't true?

  • @lilbabygoogoo I never said that humans can completely replicate the human brain. I said that it's theoretically possible, but we don't currently have the knowledge to do so. I also said that a robot can be programmed like a human brain, which I also believe. But again, not at this point in time. My underlying point for these two examples is that (philosophically) everything in the universe can be replicated. You don't seem to understand my main point when referring to the specific examples

  • @WhiteRussianBC You cannot give concrete statements of fact, such as that a robot can "obviously" be programmed to play music exactly like a human, based only on some nebulous, unproven theory.

  • @lilbabygoogoo If the human mind can be replicated artificially, for example in a robot, it will function the same way as a real mind. I believe this is possible because I see no reason why anything wouldn't be replicable (other than a shortage of human knowledge, which is irrelevant from the philosophical standpoint). I cannot prove this hypothesis, and you can't disprove it either, so there's really no point in arguing. However I'd like to know what property renders the human mind unreplicable
