Shaolin schools in China are usually fake and are pretty risky to get involved in. I'm taking a Shaolin School in California knowing that they send students that prove themselves to the Shaolin Temple to train for free. I know they're real because the masters I see in documentaries and books are right in front of me. Along with the fact that they toured America in a performance known as "Wheel of Life"
gtothet21 you are right.. any one can if they have the money.. i am about to pay 4900 for a year tuition for the siping city shaolin martial arts acadamy in northern china
that is also true..theres nothing liek the real deal.. they start training as early as 5 years old though to eb a true shaolin monk. all though i have been in martial arts sence i was 6.. i started off with teakwondo.. i am now trained in brazilian ju jit zu. karate... and kick boxing im am going to the si ping city acadamy to further my skills i hope to be there for 5 years or longer.. if they will keep me.. so you do the math iv already been training for 14 years and im just now going to china
Aired last year in China, this years contest begins in september and is female only... the winners of first year was Gu Shang Wei (China), Philip Sahagun (USA) and Xue Jiangtao (China)
I never though I would see the day that the chinese would do anything involving reality TV. This is explotation. Kzfive is right, the temple must be hard up for cash because 1. letting in foreigners, 2. letting in television 3. training foreigners. I am so disgusted. I guess at somepoint everyone must give in to the power of $
I think the better view of this is the preservation of traditional Chinese spirit and culture. Many people have believed for a long time that no real martial monks exist in the temple anymore and that the temple's curriculum has given way to flashy contemporary wushu. This was a way for the temple to spread Chan Buddhism culture and an understanding of martial spirit. Is their something really so corrupt with sharing knowlege with future generations of martial artists?
This is epic, and by any chance do you know the song that plays at 4:20?

Anyone can join a temple if you pay enough money to get trained. A kung fu teacher in my town did and a friend of mine is doing the same thing

I shall say it is not the case. However, in the materialistic world, even monk can not escape the vicious circle
