  • sing is Mark heave the CD's :-) bye

  • i sure i wish i could hear play an all instrumental of this. or even him singing would be better than this guy

  • i m almost sure that mark plays he guitar......his melodic lines...so familiar!!! i lov u MARK...!!!

  • Feel it!!Ya don't need a video to understand this song............RIP in peace friends that have left us behind.....

  • I turned on the song, and it started raining outside...

Rain created a beautiful atmosphere, to a beautiful song.

  • hey guys..i love this song so much so I decided to make a cover of knocking on heavens door...so check my channel if you want..hope you'll like it!:D

  • Very nice sound!

  • Is there any information about this song? I ask this because I don't recognize the guitar playing here. It seems to lack the dynamics, tone and voice-like melodies we all know Mark for.

  • @SurfGreenStrato Yes Its Mark Knopfler on Guitar.

The Voice is(Ted Christopher)from Scottish Rock Band Called Nazareth.

The choir backing, is From The School Where Children Were Sadly

Gunned Down By Mad Man? Its A Tribute Single of the Event. For Charity

Not Meant To Have a Dynamic Tone.

Check out Nazareths Take= on this Dylan Song. There's More Information There !!

  • This video don`t need pictures because it is so perfect when you just listening it.

  • hey i've uploaded a video of myself performing this song, please watch it and let me know what you think :)

  • Lyrics?

  • @PEERLYNN Hey there you cant get a better quitarist then Mark Knopfler. .but yeah Bob Dylan wish he was singing it for sure without a doubt... is a pity Bob and Mark wow wouldnt get together and do it would be fantasitc possible one of the greatests songs ever done in a v v long time.. nice agree with ye peerlynn! Cheers!

  • Mark can play everything and is always great!, But Mark & Bob are even more: Perfect!

The out of tune, absolutely unperfect voice of Dylan is unique its beauty come from...

Heaven, for real! But this is just my opinion

  • If guns were banned, only the lunatics and the criminals would have them, and ordinary citizens would be defenseless.

  • This had an extra verse added. They played this for a fund raiser for families whose children were killed BY A MAN WITH GUNS, the money went to the charities for children. Thus the anti gun message. 15 first grade children and their teacher were killed. The children in the choir on this song were the siblings of the dead children.

Makes you feel kind of stupid posting the comment "Guns are nice. For shooting people in the face just every now and then" doesn't it, @itaterobbie123?

  • @rolanda69 Lol, funny comment!! So true, guess I might have had it eyy with all the time I put into this ;) Well, I don't upload any more MK stuff now since all my time goes to my own music ;) Cheers

  • I love this!

this is the most beautiful version of that song I've ever heard. Look at GNR or clapton, their versions are quite not as good as this one!

    Thanks for sharing:)

  • Mark Knopfler forever! Were they playing in complete darkness?

  • Who's this awful singer?

  • if mark was playing AND singing the song... it would be awesome *.* ... although it already is :P

  • Of all the versions of this song, and there are way too many, this one, and the story behind it is very moving. I think the anti-gun message has to be understood in the context of the evil that caused the killing. Peace.

  • The anti-gun message is extremely irritating, but I can't help liking a collaboration between Knopfler and Ted Christopher.

  • @ihaterobbie123 Yeah. Guns are nice. For shooting people in the face just every now and then...

  • @akkermens If someone's going to murder they'll do it anyway, you don't even need a weapon, some psycho in Australia threw his daughter off a bridge recently.

  • wow absolute class !

  • The first time I heard Knopfler was in the US, 1981 and it was the Dire Straits first album here in the US (that I knew of), the Sultans of Swing album. A friend had played it for me and I said that I liked it. He said that I could have it. I immediately detected influences of Dylan (naturally) and of Chet Atkins. I've heard other influences, but I knew the 1st time I heard him: Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest artists of my time. I knew that the first time I heard him. Still do.

  • doesn't matter anyway, take it from a 55YO , who hasn't grown up. It's just Gmaj, Dmaj; Aminor..back to Gmaj, then Gmaj, Dmaj, Cmaj....Down..D,D, Up. then D,DDU...UDDDU, on the C's and Aminors....works if u keep'n practicing.

  • knopfler is a God

  • @PEERLYNN they are Mark Knopfler,Bob dyland And Ted christopher.......

  • is it mark singing?

  • The people that think Mark is singing this must be deaf. It's not even close to how his voice sounds.

  • Awesome version! Anyone knows the name of the rock band who recorded this tune

in late 70's ? With cool guitar solo better than Slash's version.

  • @tofoodood

Not sure which version you refer to because this song has been covered a lot of times but maybe you are thinking of the one by Cold Chisel? That would have been early 80's.

  • hey anyone know what album this is in

  • This is MK's voice.....I'm sure.......I know him since 25 years and everyone who thinks that not is very, very wrong

  • @1968nomad this is not knopfler's voice. read discription

  • @1968nomad guess you don't know him too well then?

  • I Like this version too,

  • Comment removed

  • 11spike7 You are so reight.

  • 11spike7 You are so right.

  • A guitar in the hands of Knopfler is akin to a chisel in the hands of Michelangelo.

  • 11spike7 You are so reight

  • Mark You don't need knock to heaven's door.....YOU just come from there

  • search dunblane massacre on wikipedia it will inform you more im glad to have informed you all and once again R.I.P those who died never forgotten the people of scotalnd xx

  • This song was in tribute of the victims of the dunblane massacre in a town near where i live in scotland , there was 16 chidren and one adult killed during the massacre on the 13th march 1996 so R.I.P those children and the adult that died and much respect to there family`s and friends also it is Ted Christopher who is singing this and its relatives of the victims who are singing the backing chorus also Andy murray the famous tennis player attented that school at the time so...

  • @PEERLYNN The singer is Ted Christopher. :)

  • Mark Knopfler is only playin the guitar, he is definitly not singin.

  • Beautiful. Great version of this classic song. Nadine

  • this is not Mark...

  • great mark!!!

  • the singer actually is mark knopfler its just that ted christopher wrote the verse in the song that wasnt in bob dylan's version of the song. so it is actually mark singing

  • It is NOT Mark that sings. That's for sure : )

  • Agreed. I don't know who is singing, but it is NOT Mark Knopfler. He is definitely playing the guitar though.

  • The singer is Ted Christopher of Dunblane.

But Mark for sure is playingthe guitar.

  • "Dunblane Against Guns" tx for posting the song

    Reuters/Variety - November 20, 1996

LONDON (Reuter) - Youngsters from the Scottish village of Dunblane have recorded the Bob Dylan song "Knocking on Heaven's Door" as a tribute to the 16 children and school teacher slain in the town in March. They were accompanied on lead guitar by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, the project's organizer Ted Christopher told Sky Television Wednesday. Knopfler readily agreed to help.

  • Thats awsom! its great to see someone who accualy knows what he is listening to. :)

  • Well, the guitar does sound like MK. Never heard of this collaboration before, though.

  • Nice, but like they already said: not Mark Knopfler.

  • Yes, but it is Mark Knopfler who plays the guitar.

  • Ted Christopher singt hier.

  • Wow! Awesome Guitar Playing!Love this version!

  • I thought it was Ted Christopher..

  • jes it is ted crhistopher you richt and i whas wrong i ask my dad to lisen to this song and he whas saying that it whas ted that whas singin this song;-) sorry for my bad englis greets;-)

    Guitar is amazing.

  • @Johnnyazra

Yo Slash is awsome he did so much for the modern rock guitar.

    like Mark Knopfler did to

but you should never compaire Slash a Hardrockguitarplayer with Mark Knopfler

Their both freaking good and I love their music

    but they're too diffrent

  • all are good,u cant compare guns to knopfler or to led zeppelin, uriah heep, every one is great and unique.soz for my bad english

  • thats right man, slash plays hard rock and Knophler plays modernized classic rock. their two differant genras(?) so its like comparing apples to oranges(?)
