Leather works well, I use the bag because they are cheap and easily obtainable where I live. If you have leather lying around then it will make a great pouch.

I used 1/4 inch rubber bands from staples and its pretty sad when i have to say these bands are better than anything i have ever bought in a store because they have a longer life and quit a bit more power than "standard pull trumark power bands".

@Jafarmarar From what I have tried I have found that thicker bands tend to mess with each other when the slingshot is fired. I haven't experimented with very many different types of bands but those shown in the video have always worked well.

Sixty-four bands makes sense. Sure, there are other ways....fancy, technified, better-on-paper...but before dissing 64, consider that it provides a margin of safety against sudden failure. As for max power---who needs it? This kind of slingshot won't win speed awards, but a it will certainly deliver a fast-enough for fun pellet that you can see in the air, watch its path--- a key to learning accuracy. I find this type of slingshot ideal for backyard fun. It's not a contest or killing slingshot.

you don't need 64 bands- they all clash together when you release the pouch reducing accuracy and power. Check out my video for a design with much fewer bands :)

This is simply the method I use. It is plenty powerful and accuracy depends upon the person using it. Personally if I was stuck in a survival situation I would rather have one of my sling shots with 64 rubber bands than one with 6 bands that are attached using zip ties.

But that's just me ;).

The life span of the bands depends on the quality of the bands, where it is stored and how often it is used. I usually change them every 2 years or so.

The beauty of having so many bands is that if one breaks the whole thing doesn't need to be replaced.

I once used a pair of old pliers, they were the type that open when you squeeze them (has a spring holding them closed), I removed the spring and taped them shut (welding them would be more reliable). The handle part became the 'Y'.

More, however if you have so many bands that you can't pull it back then it will obviously not be as powerful as one with less.

Something else that may be worth trying is to have less bands in each link (eg. 6 or 7 opposed to 8) and add an extra link to each chain.

You can make it as powerful as you want simply by using extra rubber bands, the one in this video has put lead sinkers through cane toads from 10 meters or so.

Not sure about surgical tubing as I haven't used it much.
