  • This is a plenty fair race, an evo comes turbo charged factory, bolt on mods can mean a HUGE range of mods, or not many, this evo does not look like its not modded that much, a nissan 350z twin turbo should spank evos and sti's with a aspirated setup, i have seen low budget build single turbo mustangs run low 8 second quarters against modded out twin turbo supras running mid to high 9 seconds both street legal. A single turbo can be better than a twin depending on its size/boost, and other mods.

  • Not exactly a fair race. A bolt-on EVO with maybe 2k in mods vs. A 350z with about 7k in mods. For 7k forged internals and a GT35R turbo, to even it up.

  • How is that sad? Evo is lighter, cheaper to mod, and is running high boost stock. I doubt that evo was stock, but who knows, you can't tell on youtube. Boost the Z to the same psi as the evo and it gets raped. Both are nice cars but I am biased toward the Z since I own one. Every little race boy drives an evo and thinks they can beat everyone.   • Nope the ka24de engine holds a turbo longer and better than a SR20de, but people seem to still convert over to the SR20de.The SR20 supposably is faster than the ka24de stock but the ka24de engine can hold a turbo at a higher psi than the SR20de.

  • nice cars, i love both cars, the 4g63 is by far the best thing ever for mitsubishi now that they no longer make it mitsu aint what they used to be, the vg35hr is way better then the de, the block is thicker down around the crank, but the strongest engine ever built by nissan would either have to be the rb26dett or the vg30dett.

Evos are very different from lancers starting from the chasis which has hundreds of more welds for rigidity and one of the best all wheel drive systems available maybe if you're talking just about the engine then yes...but then the evo is a sedan made to compete on rallys which they need to limit the size of their engines for better weight balance 4 racing is better the smaller engine best example is the bmw e30 m3

  • At the time i own a 350z supercharged and it runs very sweet and it still haven't been tune, before i supercharged it, i've run an evo before and i had nismo exhaust AEM intake, and my ECU was chip, giving my z the extra 15hp, tuning it up to 300hp and this is how i beat the evo by 1 car he was very closes. On factory tunes i would off lost.

It could of been completely stock or with minor bolt ons that gives it an extra 5whp without a tune. who knows right? about your other comments, so a v6 vs. a inline 4 is fair right? So if your taking things away from the evo. lets take away 2 cylinders from the Z. who would win then? Its not fair to take things away from one car and not take anything away from another.

    Thats a good statement. Put 400whp into a evo and you'll be high/mid 11's with a decent driver that can launch and shift well.

    I had a 280whp (its now 400+whp) evo with only an exhaust,intake,MBC and ran 12.6. Everything else was stock. Only cost me 1,500to do that.

  • No. The old DE block can hold 10psi stock and 400whp. The new HR block can hold more than that. Nobody is really sure what the limit is, but there are 500whp Z's running on a stock HR block.

    But is was never meant to be turbocharged, so it's not the same thing. Besides, a 10psi Z is the same power-wise as a 20-psi evo.

  • I have the DE in my 03 Z, twin turbo pushin 422 to the wheels on STOCK motor with NO issues at all as of yet, so just depends on how u tune it and how lucky u are

  • Wow, you have no idea how well Evo responds to mods, do you? There is no way a bolt on Z can keep up with bolt on Evo even from roll. Z parts are freaking expensive and they do not give nearly as much power. Evo, however does not have the displacement that Z has so when the Z is FI there is much more potential.

  • Also for you Mistu has NEVER built NA sports cars. EVery car they ever had that was considered a sports car was turboed, from the 3000GT VR-4 to the EVO, to the Eclipse GSX, to the Galant VR-4. all of their performance cars are turboed.

As for turbo why is it that so many 350z guys add on turbos then? cause N/A won't get in to the 12's with out a complete overhaul of the motor. Have a few buddies with 350z one has supercharged 350z that can only get him to the low 13's, if he went for N/A it would have cost him almost 15k to get 350z with an N/A into the low 13's not worth money unless your rich.

  • american muscle is only good in a straight line and for as heavy as the american muscle cars are, you need to be makin that just to break into 13's. it's all about power to weight ratio not just how ponies you have under the hood. Let's see how well american muscle does on a track or rally racing?

Even the best new fangled ones can't pull even .9G on the skid pad. the Mustang comes the closest with .88G Nothing short of a Vette can turn

And he is on a stock block with stock internals, but he has reworked the suspension a bit because we often do track runs. You sound like you are BIASED or either profoundly misinformed ie. douchebag. Also he ran a 13.5 with nothing but a plenum spacer.

Plus the feeling of torque is really nice in the Z. The Z makes you feel like a Super-star. To the untrained eye, and the person not "in the know" the EVO is just another import.

  • My brother has a 03 350 and there have been so many people that mistake it for a Porsche. For the average person here(US) an Evo is a lancer with a bodykit. the vast majority who's not an import fan says they are ugly. The Z may not be faster but it wont be mistaken for a Civic or Mazda3. The Z has more sex appeal and a broader audience. Still not faster but it sure feels, sounds and looks like it is. The average consumer is not interested in an EVO, because it looks like any Civic with a wing.

  • I myself am all for EVO's, as a matter of fact I own a G35 and a VR-4 so I could go either way. But in honesty most people who looks at one thinks "it's nothing special". The Z is just a sportier car, not faster just sportier. It's all love, but it is what it is. To someone who doesn't care about streetracing, or know the numbers and history behind the 2 cars, the VAST majority would sway towards a Z. Much love to the EVO's though.
