  • Does it matter if you have mascaras with parabens in them cause they arent coming into contact with your skin?

  • everyone has there views, however, 18/20 breast cancer tumours contained parabens from consmetics. just saying. you can never be to careful.

    i think they do!

  • @jadorebellezc they medication that was going to those patients also contained parabens. so yes. the tumors would most likely contain them.

  • On a youtube comment, a customer asked a "natural" company what was the shelf life on something she had purchased & the company's response was: "when it turns dingy & yellow throw it away." Sometimes sanitizing alone doesn't defeat bacteria. Companies should sanitize & use preservative system because the appearance doesn't have to change and can be odorless and still have bacteria when a preservative isn't used. Just because a product is "natural," doesn't mean it's actually natural & safe.

  • (cont) I like natural but I feel like "natural" companies should use natural preservatives and have their products tested to protect their customers from bacteria, mold, yeast & fungi, etc.

  • @ina339 I agree, that and the FDA approves what corporations tell them to approve. I have also read studies on parabens and their affect on aquatic life, that they produce far fewer males ultimately leading to extinction in certain areas where exposed over time. So what are they doing to us?

  • salvestrols really do terminate mutated cancer cells......Dead! two pronged attack! x

  • I try to avoid parabens when I can, but I don't go crazy over it because unless I lead a completely organic/all-natural lifestyle, I can't prevent the inhalation or absorption of parabens or any other harmful product all the time. Parabens are such a buzz word right now. I would look at the overall toxicity scale of a product in general by using the database at ski deep before purchasing a product if you're concerned about it.

  • I wouldn't say parabens are safe by any means, but I don't think they're as dangerous as people make them out to be. I've ton a ton of research on them, and unless you use a product that's completely natural or organic, you're not going to be able to avoid all harmful chemicals in cosmetics and skincare. If a product is paraben-free, chances are (especially drugstore products) they'll have another ingredient that's just as harmful, if not, more harmful. Cont'd ...

  • Nope.

  • sounds to me like the governments attempt to avoid being blamed for the hight rates of cancer in the us and an attemp to 'calm the panic'. The problem with putting a bandaid over the problem is that eventually it will fall off and everyone will see the true damage.

  • Parabens are in Accutane. Is there a difference when used internally?

  • @PowderedPeach Accutane is overall an AWFUL product. They had a 7 million (or somewhere around that amount) dollar lawsuit against them because they product causes Crone's disease. That's some serious business...

  • what ur body absorbs about 60-70% of what u put on it! so if ur rubbing a little bit of parabens on ur everyday.. isnt thatgonna addd up?!?!?! i swear ppl only get cancer cuz of shitty asss makeup!!! and dirty air that we breathe cuz we screwed up cuz we polluted it!

  • Also: "studies have shown that parabens are able to be absorbed through the skin and to bind to the body's estrogen-receptors, where they can encourage breast cancer cell growth" - New Scientist 1/12/2004

  • Average levels of 20 nanograms/gram of parabens have been detected in a small sample of 20 breast tumors. These findings, along with the demonstrated ability of some parabens to partially mimic estrogen, a hormone known to play a role in the development of breast cancers, have led some scientists to conclude that the presence of parabens may be associated with the occurrence of breast cancer. See Harvey and Everett (2004).

  • 'in any skincare product' you should also include makeup :P

  • breast cancer % has risen in the past few years...links to parabens found in breast cells

  • @designlover88 well the pollution increase a lot to....

  • People complaining about parabens and flu shots being bad are idiots. You people are so annoying. I'm actually glad to see you guys worry.

Instead of listening to someone else tell you something is bad, do the goddamn research yourself. Idiot.

  • @dippinb217 did u research it? because if you did, then you would know that all these people "complaining" are stating true facts and parabens are bad for you due to the fact we absorb them everyday, even if they arent that strong we still absorb them in almost every product. it adds up. so instead of calling people idiots maybe you should do the damn research yourself.

  • @SassyBanjo stfu, anti-flu shot crank.

  • you dont address the fact that if you use these products daily over 15 years, how do we really know how much Parabens are actully going into our system.. yes maybe a small amount can become a lot over time...

  • @qtnmac stfu, youre paranoid. studies dont even say if the parable in your system even do anything.

  • I use to think that parabens were bad too, but if it is so bad than why do every1 say that cetaphil is a decent facial cleanser when in fact it has parabens

  • @FoolishInTheEnd cuz they don't know or care even that it has parabens...

  • @designlover88 i also am concerned with parabens as many say it causes iiritation and other issues, but the thing is that 90percent of overcounter and expensive brand names all contain this ingredient. its hard to find one without. any reccomendations?

  • Fda is funding deaths for america

  • I suspected that parabens weren't the bad, evil things so many people make them out to be. I've used cetaphil (which contains parabens) for five years and I haven't had any issues. I think people get a little freaked out sometimes over nothing.

  • @gallifrey1212 how much do you use everytime you wash your face? cause i use like a nickel size dot then lather with hands and it doesnt feel like im washing with anything

  • @FoolishInTheEnd I use about a quarter/nickel size (depending on how dry my skin is). I feel like I'm washing with a gel cleanser, but it's so subtle I don't really notice it. When I rinse it off, though, my skin is ultra clean, like squeaky clean. That's how I know it works. That and it doesn't break me out and keeps my skin moisturized without making it oily.

  • I love your videos but I think you're wrong. Between birthcontrol & parabens, American women are taking in so much artificial estrogen it's absurd. You're Especially wrong for not mentioning methylparaben and sun damage/pre mature skin aging.

  • @bananas507 Parabens are naturally occuring in raspberries. Putting Parabens and birth control in the same category is about as logical as comparing pork to synthroid. Birth control introduces high levels of estrogen directly into the body to create a false pregnancy. These estrogens then go into our water supply which can not be filtered out. Should we then stop drinking water since it actually has more estrogen in it than parabens ever will?

  • @Aeva Are you on crack? Read my comment again. Do you slather rasberries on your skin 15 times a day or do you just survive soley on them? Do you also go with slogan that "just one cigerette won't give anyone cancer"? I'm not talking about using one product or eating one rasberry...I'm talking about over a lifetime. And yes, your water supply is contaminated but, the parabens are the least concerning of all the other toxic crap you're drinking.

  • @bananas507 What does crack and ciggarettes have to do with parabens and raspberries? I was clearly pointing out that the scare surrounding parabens is completely fabricated by the cosmetic industry. What people take internally like birth control has a different affect than a cosmetic ingredient that is applied topically. I apply science to all areas of my life, based off study and observation, not random jibber jabber on Youtube.

  • @Aeva The thing is...it's not the cosmetic industry that started all this "jibber jabber" nor youtube. It's actually breast cancer survivers and the breast cancer researchers. I know way too many women who have battled and thankfully won that fight. Americans have one of the highest if not highest cancer rates and it's risen 80% in England over the past 20 years. You have to take a look at what other countries aren't doing. This is a small part.

  • thank you for explaining how parabens works and it's strength in cosmetics. it's very reassuring.

  • I love your videos so much <3 ive watched every one of your videos and my friends are always so impressed when they ask me something about their skincare, because i can always answer them using info from one of your videos :D xx

  • I'm so glad that you talked about this topic (however brief the video may have been). I didn't know what parabens were and honestly I didn't really care. While now I may know just a tad bit more about the subject I'm certainly not going to feel bad about buying a product every now and then that might contain "dreaded parabens".

  • Very little amount of parabens used everyday in different products thoroughout your entire life it´s not in the end "a little amount" this is bio accumulable in the body!

  • but parabens do irritate the skin right?

  • Thank you so much for the information! I still prefer parabenfree products but now I'm not affraid anymore of products which contain parabens.

  • Thanks for the info!!

  • Good to know :)) THX so so much for your expertise!

  • Hello Dr. Schultz, paraben is a component of airbrush makeup, and when sprayed onto face, invariably is breathed in during application. Does it harm my internal respirative or any other organs? Thank you for all your advice!

  • but do you really want to put preservatives on your skin?

  • Why is he comparing the estrogen effects of parabens to estrogen-like substances? Why not compare it to other ingredients that we put on our skin? DR! DR! We're lamen women who want simple answers.

  • @PeaceUdo He was saying that is the supposed danger with parabens is that the negative effects would be because of the estrogen in the parabens. But there isn't enough estrogen in parabens, or enough parabens in products to cause problems.

  • @CrimeKisses Does this apply to the combination of products? 1 product is one thing. What about several more products many of us use daily?

  • @gidgetgoes1128 You, my friend, have a great argument! Can you send me a link to this advice? Is it from the cancer association or Komen?

  • It's interesting that Dr. Schultz mentions that the estrogenenic effect of parabens are a a small concentration; however, ladies, you should look under each and every product that touches your skin (lotions, soaps, makeup, perfume, etc.). All this creates a harmful effect on your body over time! I used to be make up junkie as a teen ...and in my twenties I became educated on the facts and stopped buying toxic products. *Peace*

  • THANK YOU! This is really a relieve!

  • Excellent, thank you! Dr. Schultz, can you tell us about Paraben-free products? What do they use in the place of Paraben? Does not using Paraben make the product go bad sooner? Thanks, again.

  • Thank you, Dr. I always appreciate your input. It's never a bad thing to arm yourself with information. As always, great vid.

  • I still wouldn't use parabens in my creams- but i don't mind it as much in makeup such as eyeshadow. The bottom line is that parabens are still chemicals and your skin absorbs a great deal of what you put on it.

  • I stopped using any products with parabens, and it just wasn't realistic anymore. So my solution is that I LIMIT the exposure on my body. My body lotion is paraben-free, (because I use this all over my body) as well as any lip products (so I don't swallow the parabens). But I decided that I wouldn't worry about makeup and cleansers (because I rinse them off immediately).

  • @powderwood Tell me about your journey. What kind of makes ups and stuff did you find and were they too expensive, hard to get, ineffective, etc?

  • thank you for this video, I was really looking for what a specialist can say about parabens.

  • wow! I still think that parabens are bad for us because I am in my twenties and I really don't want wrinkles right now and that's what parabens do, and it seems that nobody heard him said about the risk of developing breast cancer! Oh! And parabens are even in the anti-aging creams so the cream is really not doing anything good!

  • @2302516 i agree. i still try my best to go organic in my skin care.

  • @2302516 Really. Now parabens cause wrinkles. That's a whole new 'the sky is falling I hadn't heard yet. Got any actual proof to back that up? That means scientific study results, not hearsay or fashion rags.

  • @ShariSez apparently it catches with the uv light or something like that, thats why it causes wrinkles when your out in the sun

  • So in makeup, are parabens okay as well?

  • THANK YOU for this video! I've heard that they cause breast cancer and I've heard that they aren't a big deal so thank you for answering this question!

  • thank you!

  • Triclosan in body soaps/house hold products foodandwaterwatch (dot.) org

  • my question was answered! :)

thank you Dr. Schultz. I can now go back to using LUSH products

  • thanks for this video. It was very wanted :)

  • ooo thank u so much for this !!!

  • just because the FDA approves something doensn't give me faith in the product.

  • @choochalah plus, "very little of this" and "very little of that", kinda adds up doesn't it...

  • @Aeisihtirmalakes apparently more than 7 to 8 products with this chemical a day will develop in the system.

fda is also looking to approve the genetically modified salmon a.k.a. "franken-fish" so do i trust them? no.

  • @choochalah agreed..... its not like the FDA has steered us wrong before. I prefer to avoid synthetic anything if I can help it.

  • @livegorgeouslygreen for sure...they approved thalidomide in the 60's and look what that did. :-/

  • @livegorgeouslygreen I agree that something being FDA approved or not is not persuasive. It is good evidence to support one's claims, but its not persuasive on its own at all! Because we know sometimes FDA is right and fair and sometimes FDA is very sketchy.

  • @choochalah birth control has more estrogen than paraben containing makeup. just fyi

  • @choochalah stfu stop spreading bullshit lies. just because the FDA approves something doesn't mean you should NOT have faith in the product.

  • @choochalah do you work in a lab to test every single thing you put in/on your body then?

  • @choochalah if we can trust in FDA, what we can trust?this is the theory of conspiration...
