An old WW2 bomb factory is a couple of miles away from my school and a few months ago they were clearing the area out. As a warning that they were operating in the area they activated this air raid siren that was installed into the building many years ago. This was happening when I was sitting my exams in a big silent hall, I could hear it loud and clear.. and i was shiting myself!

We have the same type of siren in Timaru New Zealand. Which Tests every Wednesday of the first month.

A slower version of the Attack warning is used to signal a tsunami, While the steady tone is used for the Fire Call-outs. Really spooky hearing it echo over the town.

True story. When I was about 16, I was visiting Virginia City, NV for a vacation. It was my first time there and it was pretty nice. Loved the history to it and all. Anyway, I was in a shop looking around at some cool stuff, just minding my buisness, when out of nowhere, I heard these sirens go off. First thing I thought was huge evacuation do to nuclear threat. I literally had the worst panic attack and ran out of the store screaming. Ends up the siren was to let the minors know its lunch time.

I know in my region, there is no cellular reception, and when the weather is shitty, no telley nor radio - only the sirens would work in such situation (a new highway got built, so now even the sirens cannot be heard, so in any event, we are fucked)
