Beautiful bass! Top water fishing is definitely my favorite. It's a pleasure watching bass being caught, without twenty minutes of commercials in between.
@rokstar807 Thanks, I hate how fishing shows and, to be honest, most YouTube videos have become all about product promotion. That's what gave me the motivation to create my YouTube Channel. I hope I can make videos that can have tons of information with as little product promotion as possible. Thanks again
@flukemstr I used to fish quite a bit with my dad, before he passed away a few years ago.We primarily fished surface lures, the old Smithwick Woodchug being our favorite bait. After watching your vid here,it definitely brought back some great memories. Keep 'em comin'!
I love frog fishing. My favorite way to fish. My best bass was caught on a spro. 6lbs. Just like the last fish you caught it had a wake when it swam over to hit. So awesome. Awesome video bro
@tannermcarson To be honest with you it's the color that the bass want. If it's a cloudy day I'll start with one with a dark belly but will change according to what the fish do. If they swing and miss a few times I'll change to one with a yellow belly. If there are no clouds I'll start with a white belly and change if I need to.
awesome vid. i have a question, my spro bronze eye fills up with water after a while... is it supposed to be like this? or can i go ahead and close up the hole where the hooks exit?
it is kinda nice to bring it over a huge weed bed and then let it slowly drop into a pocket though
@1watsondog The Rod that I use and recommend is totally different than what others will tell you to use. I use a 6' 8" Heavy because I'm more accurate with it and it delays my hookset just a little more. I use a Revo S reel. It's got great drag and I don't need a high speed for fishing a frog. Most people will recommend a 7' 3" or longer rod so you can get longer casts but I feel that an accurate cast is more important than a long one.
@1watsondog I don't care about the color on the top of the frog. I only worry about the belly color. That's the only color that the bass see. I have dark colors, (Black and Brown) and I have light colors ( Yellow) I never throw white. I have a white one with a black belly and it's considered a dark color for me.
Im new to bass fishing and was looking for a rod that I can use for every lure in my tackle box. All the rods I have seen are for a specific lure(crank bait, finnese, etc)?
@fencerkyo Use braided line. It will allow you to back off on your cast control knob and breaks and you can get long, smooth cast. And as always practice your casting.
nice fish!!! i use topwater primariy and love it. here in nj not many waters we can use it. those that can dont produce bucket mouths like that.although i just pulled my personel best 5lb using a scumfrog poper
i was fishing with the bronzeye over labor day and i couldnt seem to land them. found a few bass holed up in a weed bed, just about every time i cast over it i got a strike but none of them got the hook. i even added a stinger and they still werent getting hooked. anyone have any advice?

@Tcm0240 the trick is to use a medium to heavy 6'6 or 7 ft rod, and a braid (i like to use a light 6-10lb). This combo makes for a very responsive feel. Once you got the hit drop your rod tip take up the slack and set the hook.
@Sidcynic1 i had it on a 7' medium and 12# nano-fil i think the problem was i was too quick on the hook set and i was pulling it away before they could get a hold of it. It's getting a bit too cold here to be bassin' so ill give it a whirl next year, thanks

Got alot out of the carolina rig which ive never used b4 anf because of you imma go out saturday and try it. I would love to see a crankbait and swimbait vid like this. Think i would get alot out of it, for me you have good technique and knowledge and in the swimbait/ crankbait area im lacking just that.
Great video and nice honey hole! I use mono almost always on my frog rod bc most of my fishing is done in predominantly open water like you guys are fishing and also I use a veritas rod which is a little stiffer than most xf rated rods.
@KaitlynMBrennan I usually get mine at Bass Pro but there are plenty of places that sell them. About $8.99 apiece but will last a while if the body doesn't get ripped.
This is a good video. Fluorocarbon is a bad idea I think because it sinks and you can't get the right action. I usually use 50lb Power pro and have a with a 7:1 reel and a 7ft MH fast tip rod just for frog fishing.
@bassmaster2399 I stated 50lb Power Pro which is Braided line! 50lb Fluorocarbon or Mono-filament yes your right its to thick but I was referring to braided line!
@kodee5496 Either one of those frogs will do. I haven't tried the Live Target frog yet but now that they are coming out with new colors that have different belly colors I'm going to have to give them a shot but a Spro Frog has never let me down.
@IgniiteThePassiion It's the best line to use but it's not the only line. I would shy away from flourocarbon line but co-polly and mono will work ok you will have a hard time getting a solid hookset and if they get into the weeds you're most likely going to break your line.
dude this is a GREAT video...where r u? looks like some epic honey hole man! seriously got chills watchin this one...froggin is the best bite IN THE WORLD
@simzboy123 It's one of the best bass fishing lakes in the country. It's private and professionally managed. It's called Richmond Mill Lake, in Laurel Hill, NC.
@madmatt32192 My favorite early moring topwater bait is a black, double bladed buzzbait. I like it because the morning bite is usually a short time and a buzzbait covers alot of water fast. Once I locate a concentration of fish I slow down and fish a frog or popper.
Hi ya'll.. as for as hook set.. It's my understanding the bass hits the frog to kill it (pause) and then hits it to eat it.. hence the pause? Right or wrong??
@laluv2shop Most of the time that exactly right. I do a few thing to slow down my hookset like use a short rod and fish with the rod out of position to slow down my hookset.
I use FINS braid. It's the best line I've found for frog fishing. Everyone who picks up my frog rod falls in love with the line in the first few casts.
also a good tip is to maybe bend the hooks away from each other just barley and also work the rubber were it smashes when a fish hits it just so its soft but yet durable, i love these frogs there just so versatile. and if you want to catch big bass go pick a couple up.
Started fishing a pond in Iowa and just bought a St Croix Slop n Frog rod and a nice Shimano Curado with 50 lb PowerPro. Went back with some Spro's yesterday. First cast I had one on but it got away. At the end I had 5 fish on but never landed one. I think I need to work on setting the hook as I'm not used to "hammering it home". Frustrating as I went out and spent about $400 bucks to fish this dang frog. Oh well, just need to practice I guess.
I use this frog quite a bit BUT CAN'T SET THE DARN HOOK! Not sure what I am doing wrong as I've never had trouble setting the hook with my other lures. I must have had 20 hits on this frog and never hooked it. You guys using trailer hooks?
@SouLShakeRProdX Nope, no trailer hooks. Make sure you are using a low stretch line line braid and a stiff rod. Mine is a Dobys 684c 6ft 8in Heavy action rod. Then be sure to wait till you feel the fish on the line and then make a powerful over the shoulder hookset. The timeing and angle of the hookset is very important.
@SouLShakeRProdX actually i know ur problem when a bass hits something on top of the water it doesnt close its mouth until its back under the surface so most people get excited and yank it out of the mouth the second it hits, next time you use it try just waiting a second or two when one hits it or even try closing your eyes.
@SouLShakeRProdX actually i know ur problem when a bass hits something on top of the water it doesnt close its mouth until its back under the surface so most people get excited and yank it out of the mouth the second it hits, next time you use it try just waiting a second or two when one hits it or even try closing your eyes. then yank it and set the hook
@SouLShakeRProdX When fishin with the frog after the hit you have to wait 2 seconds and lower your rod to give him some slack then after two seconds he has had enough time to go down and turn around with the frog so you can then set the hook
I dont know about the whole "perfect hook up"I have gotten several bites and waited atleast 3 seconds before even trying to set the hook and still havent gotten any fish,Any suggestions I am getting bites but not catching fish so I really cant blame it on the frog maybe its the hooks, and I am setting the hook pretty hard
idk if y'all notice...but on the northern bass they're green is much much darker than southern bass....and also the bass are a little bit less long, but are just toadss. I live down south so it's just something to notice, but a bass is a bass right!
hey man i just got some frogs but i usualy use ribbit frogs.. i cant really decide on a good way to work this frog.. should i reel slowly or twitch it?
@codyccg You want to use a stiff rod and line with very little stretch like braided line. Then when the fish bites wait 2 or 3 seconds and then set the hook very hard. You will notice on some of the hookset I accually pull the fish out of the water on the set.
@Flatzout I have several of the H2O frogs and they are good. The hooks aren't as good as the spro but I have enough of the Spro hooks to replace the VMC's in the H2O. The biggest difference that I've found is that the H20 are noticably harder to walk

what color frog are you using?
redneckfun69 8 months ago
Started fishing a pond in Iowa and just bought a St Croix Slop n Frog rod and a nice Shimano Curado with 50 lb PowerPro. Went back with some Spro's yesterday. First cast I had one on but it got away. At the end I had 5 fish on but never landed one. I think I need to work on setting the hook as I'm not used to "hammering it home". Frustrating as I went out and spent about $400 bucks to fish this dang frog. Oh well, just need to practice I guess.
Do you ever fish these at night??

I use this frog quite a bit BUT CAN'T SET THE DARN HOOK! Not sure what I am doing wrong as I've never had trouble setting the hook with my other lures. I must have had 20 hits on this frog and never hooked it. You guys using trailer hooks?
SouLShakeRProdX 9 months ago

@SouLShakeRProdX When fishin with the frog after the hit you have to wait 2 seconds and lower your rod to give him some slack then after two seconds he has had enough time to go down and turn around with the frog so you can then set the hook

how do you fish these frogs? do you use a slow or fast retrieve? do you jerk it , constant retrieve, or stop and go?

I dont know about the whole "perfect hook up"I have gotten several bites and waited atleast 3 seconds before even trying to set the hook and still havent gotten any fish,Any suggestions I am getting bites but not catching fish so I really cant blame it on the frog maybe its the hooks, and I am setting the hook pretty hard

idk if y'all notice...but on the northern bass they're green is much much darker than southern bass....and also the bass are a little bit less long, but are just toadss. I live down south so it's just something to notice, but a bass is a bass right!

it seems like every time i get a hit on a spro frog the come off what do u do to get a good hookset?
codyccg 10 months ago
@codyccg You want to use a stiff rod and line with very little stretch like braided line. Then when the fish bites wait 2 or 3 seconds and then set the hook very hard. You will notice on some of the hookset I accually pull the fish out of the water on the set.

What fishing spot is that
dcano86 11 months ago
that place your fishing is insane lol
MrLongSofty 11 months ago
@Flatzout I have several of the H2O frogs and they are good. The hooks aren't as good as the spro but I have enough of the Spro hooks to replace the VMC's in the H2O. The biggest difference that I've found is that the H20 are noticably harder to walk
