  • IF YOU NOTICE THE SPEAKER IS SYING BULLSEATS!!!!

  • Damn if only i could mute those two assholes commenting and enjoy the magic!

  • why do people come watch something so cool and beautiful just to start arguments. The Olympics are one of the only times nations can come together and have friendly competition without trying to start wars or blow each other up!! This is why there probably will never be world peace, to many ignorant people out there. Just enjoy the beauty and history of this and quit bitching about everything!

  • Who cares if Alexander the great is grek or yugolsavian macedonian??There wa 2300 years ago no Greece , no FYROM.....it is crazy..it would be the same to say Jesus was israeli....

  • @Petrakis75 You don't need to have a state to be called a nation.if you read history, you would see that the Greeks maybe didn't have one state country, but they had city states..but it doesn't mean that they weren't one nation.otherwise they wouldn't fight Persians as one nation. So maybe for you it doesn't matter but for us it matters, cause Greece always existed and Macedonia is our word and soul and land....because we lived there for thousand years before Yugo-Slavs came to Balkans...got it!!!

  • I absolutely love this opening ceremony! Especially this portion of it. So much history! Why can't history classes be this fascinating and beautiful?

  • Eros in the sky is absolutely spectacular looking.

I can't wait to see London try to top this!

  • This is the most beautiful and amazing opening ceremony ever seen...and in the country where everything started ...Greetings from Italy..and all the best wishes to the wonderful country which Greece is

  • Posidon was also the god of horses so that green guy may have welln

  • @MyMurphysLaw actually my friend the commentators don't have ANY clue about Hellenic History!!! The green one is not Poseidon! He is the Charioteer of Delfi!!! Have a nice day!!!

  • who's that gayngel fladdering above..? must he represent hermes?

  • @meesbroersen the gayangel?Ιs Έρως(god of love) son of Aphrodite

  • i was surprised that the Mask of Agamemnon and the Karyatids got no mention at all! and the Auriga (said here: "that green one is Posiedon" really pissed me off. Other than that, one of the best opening ceremonies hands down

  • what we all realy need is ones again "the blue little boy with the wings" ??? you know him??? ITS EROS!!!

  • Alexander never competed at Olympia... stupid American...

  • @parsifal3142 Protecting our national sovereignty, history and civilisation was always our top priorities! The Parthenon marbles MUST return where they belong to. Greece has now Acropolis Museum which was voted officially as the best museum of the world, therefore UK has zero excuses to deny the return of the stollen Parthenon marbles back to their home. The marbles must reunite with the rest fragments. BRING THEM BACK

  • this is GREECE,the motherland of SOCRATES,PLATO, ARISTOTELES,PYTHAGORA,SOFOCLES,EURIPIDES,HOMER, ALEXANDER THE GREAT... and so many others. But Also :MARIA CALLAS.ARISTOTELIS ONASIS,KAZANTZAKIS,the nobelist SEFERIS ,the nobelist ELITIS,NANA MOUSHOURI,MELINA MERKOURI and so so so so many others...

  • Does anyone knows the song?

  • 5:00 A strong message to Britain to return the STOLEN by Lord Elgin Parthenon marbles. The figures from Parthenon's pediment reunite with the fragments that are currently hold by the British Museum. These artworks MUST RETURN back to their homeland and placed in the new world-leading Acropolis Museum in Athens.

  • @colexiou Perhaps Greece right now, on the brink of default, has other priorities.

  • This is STILL The Best Olympic Opening Ceremony ever made! Truly a masterpiece... Amazed by all, music, characters, performance... and greek history above all! Congrats from Portugal

  • . . . and love flows above it all

  • FANTASTIC! WAS EMECIONANTE THIS OPENING OF THE GAMES IN ATHENS. CONGRATULATIONS TO BRAZIL.

  • oh americans you are so ignorant stupid and useless . btw athens is still the centre of the world

  • Parade of the immortal Greeks

  • The dislikes in this video have got to be from the Slavic Monkeydonians of FYRO"M" turning all red-faced from rage and jealousy due to witnessing Alexander the Great pass by!! HAHAHA!! Alexander was GREEK!! Macedonia is forever GREECE!!

  • Most beautiful opening ceremony ever! Greetings from Portugal!

  • yeah,of course aztecs and maya and incas had incredible cultures but their dark side was to sacrefise humans for their gods, basing their destiny to magicians and priests who were controlling people's lives and making them suffer and live like slaves,at least we didn't suffer that, our motto from ancient years till now is live free-think free

  • they try to make us a third world country, they try to suck out our blood,to steal our properties,to erase us from the map,to mix us with other nations,to controll us...even if they succeed it will be for a while because even if there is only one greek left on the planet, greece can be reborn...our spirit cannot die and our contribution to the world is a fact that can never change no matter what....

  • I thought Zeus would be portrayed by a tall, bearded man. (there was a big statue of him which I recall learning about in world history class)

  • @HTownCountryFan there is no Zeus presented on the queue, only Athena goddess protector of the city with other ancient figures like Lapithes and Giants who were sculpted on Acropolis by Fedias, the correspontent who describes it made a mistake

  • i love Greece... from Philippines.!

  • i am from colombia but i wanna see a mexican olympics ceremony! will be extremely powerful to se the aztecs and the mayas cultures represented. those cultures kick greek's asses... ! but, it doesn't mean that this is not beautiful, of course it is!

  • @eljuli1003 ..."kick greek's asses..." First of all Aztecs were canniballs and second maybe Mayas were indeed a great civilization but it seems that the Hellenic civilization was and still is the most influential!!! Saludos desde Athena!!!!

  • @DespinaKouros

    jaja aztecs werent cannibals, dud.

  • @DespinaKouros Hey, Aztecs weren't cannibals.

  • @eljuli1003 That would be pure gore

  • @eljuli1003 saying 'kick greece's ass' when referring to culture is completely irrational, insane and nonsensical at the same time. like saying an ape can solve a math problem better than a person. with respect

  • @eljuli1003 lol. Mayas hadn't even discovered the wheel! See wikipedia about that. Sorry, but you cannot even think to compare the civilizations you refer to with smaller European civilizations than the Greek one, not even the Greek one

  • That was absolutely beautiful.

  • the best olympic ceremnoy ever

  • Να το πω ΠΟΛΥ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ!! Ποιοί 11 ΜΑΛΑΚΕΣ έβαλαν ντισλάϊκ;;

  • Just to clarify:

The video doesn't stop at 01:29, it just pauses for about 5 seconds.

Thumbs up so others don't get confused.

  • I love how they put some white paint on those modern Greeks' faces and they instantly turned into ancient Greek statutes, they look exactly like the ancient Greek statutes.

  • 00:27= The first ancient characters of this parade, look like of an Egyptian profile.

00:46= The fighter on the left looks like Chinese, and not a Greek.

01:29= The video stops of a sudden, and no longer runs...what's wrong with it?

I want to watch it full!!

  • @Tennessee44444

have you ever just opened a book of history?

  • @Tennessee44444 yeah that's why they are called Olympic Games - it sounds much better than ''New Yorkean Games''.

  • @Tennessee44444 hey redneck, go and crawl back into your country hole. You give us a bad name as ignorant

  • @Tennessee44444

What the hell have you said??!!

Do you know that it exists a web page called WIKIPEDIA?

I recommend you to read it,and try to search for the info related to the olympic games.

The ancient olympic games started by 776 B.C , in Greece, and the modern era olympic games started in 1896.

Greece was supposed to host the olympic games to commemorate the 100 years in 1996,but Atlanta held those games.

Sorry, but you really need to get informed the most.

  • @Tennessee44444 And pigs might fly! Hahaha...

  • @Tennessee44444 you an the skopjans!!you are so stupid that i don't know what to answer to you.even if you don't think the real ancient olympics were olympiacs you should know that the first modern olympiacs were in Athens too.and last do you know that we wanted more time for the ceremony?do you know why?because greek history is too big for a couple of hours.your history is too short for a 15 minutes movie.now go eat hamburger and drink coca cola

  • Dimitris Papaioannou who designed this ceremony is actually gay!!! woohoo i'm so happy :P:P:P

  • @carey579 He is????

  • the entire world s history in 10 mins

  • I really wish I could get the music :(

  • "Today, 97% of the people who live in this country are Greek.... Orthodox"

    "And they build churches"

  • did he seriously say "I think that green one is Poseidon?"

  • @sephywing Fuck u fucking kid you better stop thinking about sex and start thinking about history. You must say thank you to Greece. Without Greece, there won't be Western civilization. The youths now show disrespect and sex. You better learn other cultures and start to respect them

  • The greatest and most spectacular opening ceremony I have ever watched!!

    It was simply outstanding!!

    Culture,Knowledge,and Intelligence,means only one word...GREECE!!

  • all the gree history in 10 minutes

  • My heart breaks when I watch this video and remember the days of Olympic Games in Athens 2004, as a greek, living in Athens.... how we fall in the today 2010 situation... but still there is hope

  • i love greece, and im proud to be greek

  • 11 dislikes?? must be the beijing 08 supporters. this athens opening wins hands down!

    p/s: i'm chinese :-P

  • @ch00bee Thank you about your kind and supporting words. You proved that you are not arrogant. i liked your opening ceremony too.

  • @MusicHistory100 lol it's not 'my' opening ceremony, and i'm definitely not arrogant. forgot to mention that i'm chinese but my family has been living in another country for 3 generations now. so, patriotic would be the last thing i consider myself to be, when it comes to China :-)

  • @ch00bee I think they were both incredible, but in very different ways. :)

  • @ch00bee Seriously? Nobody gives a fuck that you're Chinese. Get a life.

  • @ch00bee Seriously? Nobody gives a fuck that you're Chinese.

  • @theakatsuki9 nobody gives a fuck about Japenis-Americunts either.

Greece has more history and culture than your McDonalds hahaha.

  • @Pilosoposporo HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! And the best part is, you don't even know why you're so funny.

  • @theakatsuki9 But the best part is, I can never tell if your slant eye means laughing or crying. HAHAHAHAHA!!

  • parade of the 4000+ years of hellenic civilazation.

  • as someone said, when you were discovering the meet we already had cholesterol :P

  • greek invented theatre???lol thats wrong....performing arts for crowd was first done in india...classical dances of india for sotry telling came in 2000BC!

  • @lablask yeah!!!but our was not ONLY dancing and story telling

our was theater!!! and I was more that 2000BC!!!

  • @lablask theater is greek word. The word derives from the Ancient Greek theatron (θέατρον) meaning "the seeing place.

  • @lablask Greece has an over 50.000 years of civilisation and culture. this was proved during a discovery of an ancient Greek ship of that time, that was carrying perfumes and food to an other part of Greece. The first Greek writing was around 8.000 B.C. The first theatre was created also before 2.000 B.C. At that time Greeks knew how to work the metal as iron and copper.

  • @MusicHistory100 buddy buddy hold on!!!i don't know what are you talking about a civilization in 48,000BC...hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!yes in india we have 8,000BC remains of small towns you find a video od pre ice age indian civilization on youtube!

  • @lablask I don't tell that Indian civilisation didn't exist in these years. I just gave you the facts. That ship was discovered in the Aegean Sea by an archaeologist that spoke to us in the gathering of the archaeologists. India and Greece are both the 2 most ancient civilisations of the world and we share the same family values. We weren't affected by the ice age too cause Greece is near Egypt so we had a warm climate.

  • @MusicHistory100 anyways the ceremony is magnificent!

  • @lablask Thank you. I appreciate your opinion and your good words.

  • anatrixila

  • My favorite part of the opening ceremonies. Colorful and epic!

  • Eros is soooo cute :)

  • they should have it athens every four years!

  • ffs the american host is so fucking retarded and the info they have given him is also terrible inaccurate in many parts!good job nbc!btw nbc censored many nudity parts here...americanistan!

  • I love how it appears as though Achilles is 'walking through a timeline' of Greek History. Such a beautiful effect!!

  • Islam is peace, says the Muslims who constantly insult other religions. Islam is peace said the Muslims who invaded Egypt and subjugated the Copts. Islam is peace they said to the Zorastrians who fled to India. Islam is peace said the Muslims who ransacked gr8 university of Buddhist- Nalanda. Islam is peace said the Muslims as they slaughtered Hindus and Buddhists. Islam is peace said the muslims as they slaughtered the Sikhs & Armenians & Greeks.Islam is peace says the Muslims now as they....

  • @anu123km its a shame that one of my fellow indian thinks this way

islam never taught this to anyone do you remember the us did

u know wat u r the ones who kill ppl

riots and all that are all because of you

    n u kno wat i m nt even a muslim

u dont say that wen u talk bout taj mahal or the humayun tomb

  • @luvgory Your reaction is funny because I have just stated the facts..you are blissfully unaware of Islam but somehow feel it is your duty to defend it. Have you read Quran &r other Islamic books?

If not than start reading and than talk.

Also, you can go to faithfreedom website to find out more about this totalitarian ideology in guise of religion.Better ask Greeks here about their views on Islam and Islamic tyranny they suffered . And how my criticism of Islamic violence indict me of violence

  • @anu123km lols 1st of all i m nt a muslim

    i wrote that before

bt i m an indian and u will never be ,come say this in a court or smwere u will be locked up forever

i m sure i m younger than u bt much smarter and i my parents could afford a gud skool fr me posting stupid comments on my wall and showing all that ur parents taught u wont effect me at all

so ass whore go get sm life

  • @luvgory "ISLAM IS THE STENCH FROM THE CORPSE OF THAT DEAD BEDUIN PERVERT."

Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey

  • @luvgory Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of Qur’anic verses and Hadiths urging Muslims to value war and to fight. I spit upon those foolish souls who claim that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war?

    - The Ayatollah Khomeini

  • @anu123km u ofcourse are jst looking at the negative things

and by the way u r nt an indian so dnt ever put ur nationality as that on youtube or anywhere

wat makes u better frm sm barbarians killing other innocent ppl

u wud hv treated the muslims unequally if u were our leader

and i didnt even care to read wat u posted on my wall it jst tuk me 5 secs to delete it and block u

plz go to a school that will really help you

  • @luvgory You cannot tell someone to go to school when you persist in using a ridiculously abbreviated form of English to the point where your argument loses all coherence and cohesion. Wake up

  • @PtolemyofEgyptI sorry sir

but i am totally against what he was saying

and its not right at all to judge anyone by his religion

  • @luvgory From what I understand of anu123km's argument, he is simply presenting an opinion about a religion, which he has substantially supported with evidence from major Islamic leaders and other sources. On the other hand, you have simply resorted to foolish, unjustified and counter-productive attacks. I am not supporting either argument here - do not get me wrong. I agree judgment based on religion is wrong. But I also agree violence inherent in Islam, which is easily provable.

  • @PtolemyofEgyptI whenyou say islam u mean the whole of the islam comunity

not every muslim is like that

and yes i read a few quotes from quran before commenting

there's another word for those people killing other innocent people and its terrorist

  • @luvgory Please go to your channel for I have posted many things many people have to say about your beloved Islam.

AND DO NOT START COMPARATIVE STUDIES WITH WHAT OTHER RELIGIONS DID OR ARE DOING BECAUSE IT NEITHER JUSTIFIES CRIMES OF ISLAM AND MUSLIMS NOR DOES IT NEGATE ANYTHING I HAVE POSTED.

TIME FOR YOU TO GET SOME EDUCATION! BEING LIBERAL AND SECULAR DOES NOT MEANS BEING FOOLISH OR SUPPORTING ANYTHING WHICH GOES BY THE WORD RELIGION.

  • As a Canadian, watching this, I feel let down by the Vancouver Olympic opening ceremony. As I can only imagine, the Greek people must have felt an amazing sense of pride watching this, a beautiful representation of who they are and where they came from.

The Vancouver opening ceremony was, for me, a slightly embarrassing event, complete with technical problems (dignitaries not showing up on time, a torch that didn't come out of the floor). It was a pile of cliches and terrible "slam poetry".

  • @kissablegillis

you are so right...i never ever felt so proud being a Greek...

  • The Athens opening ceremony was truly a masterpiece: complete with passion (two lovers), pride (thousands of years of history) and great music (maria calas and tiesto). It had everything. I love the parade, where what appears to be two dimensional drawings come to life, and stil remain two dimensional although they are moving. Incredible.

I am Canadian, and I wish I was Greek watching this.

  • thats one of my favourite parts of this ceremony :)

  • ...the team that made this UNBELIEVABLE MAKE-UP surely deserves an oskar award!!!

  • i loved the music but i cant find anywhere :/

  • The ceremony is amazing!!! But these people talking they are so idiot!!!!!

  • excellent !!

  • the best opening ceremony but the american commentators were total fuckheads not giving total praise to what greece gave to the world, jealous fuckers

  • @walldorfanania Yeah and you Austrialians really contributed a lot to Western Civilization you inbred loser. The commentators had to read what was given to them to read and at least we understand them unlike your inbred retarded accent.

  • i must say that the olympics must remain once and forever in greece

  • My favorite part is 00:00 to 10:47

  • @NFSOscar really?you have a really good taste!

  • @NFSOscar

Could you really watch it full?

    I don't understand,it stops of a sudden at 01:29!!

  • this was our history.... the best opening ceremony ever. The birthtown of olympics knows how to respect the meaning of them.

  • Wow.....I love this and never forget. I choose this Opening Ceremonies one of my top five best ceremonies ever.... 1976 Montreal, 1984 Los Angeles, 1992 Barcelona, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens.

  • THIS IS VERY BEAUTIFUL.. THE BLUE MAN FLYING IS AMAZING

  • @NFSOscar

Its Eros,a greek divinity of Love.. :)

  • @NFSOscar Βlue man was Eros (Love) and the point of him in the Opening Ceremony was to give movement to the stand still statues and persons :)

  • How ridiculous are these commentators??? Compare them to the English guy in the BBC version, and you realize the low level that you're dealing with here. Where the English guy describes the artistic and philosophical developments that these visuals represent (you know, things like the birth of democracy and rational thought), the Americans just make dumb quips about Oedipus having "issues". If ever someone needed evidence about American stereotypes, HERE IT IS.

  • @nojyt

Where are you from?Like to see people thinking that way..Respect to you my friend

  • @sellianos Hi Sellianos. Thanks for the nice thoughts. I'm a Greek who at the moment is living in Canada. Don't worry; there's many people like me around...! :)

  • @nojyt Cultural differences . . .

  • @nojyt

Americans don't know their own history...so how could they know & respect the Greek?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrConstantineN Thank u very much. u hit the nail on the head . the americans dont now their ass from a hole in the ground.....

  • @MrConstantineN "Americans don't know their own history?" I'm sorry that we have not had four thousand years of written history. The fact is, when Europeans came to the American continents five hundred years ago, they didn't really care that the native people's had their own culture. The Spaniards burned most of the Mesoamerican (countries on par with any African or European culture) records, hoping to stomp out their way of life.

  • @MrConstantineN Disease brought from Europe killed literally millions of Native Americans, and most of the rest were enslaved or forced on to reservations. Europeans controlled what is now the eastern coast of the USA, and the most of the rest of the two continents weren't free from European interference for another 50-100 years. French Guiana is still not independent of Europe. Thanks to European domination, America has only about five hundred years of written history.

  • @cheesetothepower The Greeks had reached to America thousands of years ago, respected the natives, gave them knowledge, helped them, educated them.It was the age of the Argonautes.A great woman scientist of U.S. miss Merz did a great job trying to prove, mainly based in Apollonian the Rhodius texts, that the Greeks indeed traveled to the other side of Atlantic sea.Ancient monuments, symbols, and Greek named cities like Indianapolis are the proofs for the mass.

  • @redmine7 I don't believe that the Ancient Greeks made it to the Americas and as far into as Indianapolis (many places in the USA is named for places in Europe, there aren't any particular similarities in known ancient American/Greek culture that can't be explained by coincidence) but you're right in the fact that Greece has never caused any notable problems in the Americas. I personally find the stories of ancient Greeks fascinating, asking my mother to tell me some as a very young girl.
