  • À good ferrier seems to be à horses best friend

  • Very savvy farrier. Love this.

  • @MiscreantK Eddie IS the man.

  • Looking forward to visiting NYC this week & having another brilliant carraige ride in Central Park, with those great Irish guys

  • What a spectacular farrier! Beautiful job! We use Remuda Tires over here and love them but your shoes are lovely and that man can sure cut a hoof!!! Thumbs up!!

  • wow i wish my horse stood that well for the farrier!

  • its funny the Extreamist animal rights people like to run there ignorant gobs so much but they dont see that most horses in the us such as yours are better taken care off then most people

  • You are absolutely correct. Thank you very much!

  • These horses are better cared for than many of the "backyard" horses I know.

  • Yes indeed. People think a horse just living in a field is the happiest horse on the planet. I don't know how many rescue reports I've read about backyard horses found neglected and feral. No hoof care, no dental, inappropriate or no feed. Horses left out on mud to develop thrush, scratches, and rain rot. Yeah, those horses have it great, NOT.

  • needanap624:

    Absolutely!

  • Hahaaaaaa I wish my horse would stand like that! He's falling asleep! Nice feet on that horse!

  • i love it hes falling asleep

  • Very good shoes. I've noticed the quality of shoeing in every clip and I do know shoeing. I could hear the borium on the horses on the clips where the PETA members were whining about the horses slipping. I thought it was hilarious that I could hear the borium while they were complaining about the danger from slipping. I've driven carriage horses privately, I've worked with some of the best farriers in the country, whose names you would recognize if I listed them and I know what I hear.

  • PeTA thinks horses should be barefoot >_>

    Meh. I ignore them.

  • barefoot ? woulnd't that only hurt the horse ?

  • Nope - it wouldn't hurt them at all. Do horses in the wild have shoes? Nope. And they cover miles of rocky hard terrain every day. If trimmed correctly and balanced by a professional barefoot trimmer, horses are much more comfortable barefoot. The hoof expands when it hits the ground to absorb shock, it can't do that with shoes on. Therefore the joints receive more concussion. There are also alternatives to metal shoes.

  • Horses with black or dark hooves, could go barefoot longer than horses with white or soft hooves would not do so well.

One of the resons wild horses don't live as long, partly due to hoof break down, natually.

Rubber shoes are one of the alternatives to metal or aluminium

The problem with rubber is if the horses walks in and wears the inside edge then when he is standing still the shoe is not flat on the ground.

Metal with borium and drilltex are the best for road horses. In my opinion

  • By the way, although there are 8 nail holes in a metal shoe, our farriers only drive 7 nails to allow the hoof to expand as it hits the ground.

Working horses have been shod for THOUSANDS of years, it's not a new idea !

  • First horse shoes were leather. 7 nails as opposed to 8 doesn't really seem like it would make that much difference in expansion. If the hoof is properly balanced and the horse is moving correctly, the rubber shouldn't be worn unevenly. I've also known horses to wear down metal shoes oddly and as a result, moved slightly off. Agreed that there are SOME horses that need shoes, whether it be bad genetics leading to soft hooves, or an injury-induced defect, or those prone to road founder.

  • The 7 nails thing ?? You don't know enough about the subject to critisize, that farrier is 3rd generation. End of discussion. Our horses have 2 water troughs at the park and a bucket of water under each carriage.and they get regular turnout.

Horses live outside in all weather, i think your drinking the kool aid, the ara's don't want you to have a horse either. Pick a side, you cant run with hare and chase with the hounds !!!!

  • as for the "thousands of years" thing, well in my opinion, there are many things that were done for thousands of years that people no longer agree with.

I'm all for having working horses, as long as they are treated with the respect they deserve and maybe some changes could be made to the way things are done to make things easier and safer for city carriage horses. Such as a lane designated just for horses during their working hours, covered rest-points near fresh water sources, weekly turnout

  • Im suprised peta isint against farriers also.

  • We have barefoot horses out here and it causes MAJOR problems. My riding horses are barefoot but that is because they are on DIRT. In the city horses NEED shoes!!!

  • If the hoof wears faster than it grows, YES the horse needs shoes.

there is no way for a work horse to pull a carriage on cobble stone, or asphalt.

This is why shoes were used in the first place. As roads evolved so did the hoof care and shoes.

  • @Delamelia I was just wondering if you have any experience with easyboots?

  • A good farrier is hard to find.

An art that is dissapearing. Not mant 3rd generation left.

  • If only half of the performance horses I have worked with in my life had such nice feet! Beautiful work!
