To be honest with you home brewing a "Good enough" science to me. I guesstimate everything and it always comes out ok. When I'm adding ingredients the only thing I do any calculations with is the the specialty grains and malt extract. Normally I just use a base recipe then change it around. I'll take a summer ale and dump a bunch of green apples into it and see what happens. Experimenting is half the fun.
@sharpie443 yep yep, i completely agree with you. Most of the benefit of this program for me is just the ability effectively record my recipe. I've had some AWESOME batches turn out in the past and have had a hard time getting the same results again when I try.
@sharpie443 So what I've taken to doing is using it to get a general recipe to make sure my batch is pretty close to the alcohol level and I'm shooting for then making the batch and adjusting the recipe in the software to match any changes i made. (sometimes that just doesn't "feel like enough honey" etc.
@merddyn2002 I have actualy made a big mistake in the past with honey. I made a batch of orange/cinnamon mead. I decided to add a lot more honey to make it a desert mead but I zoned out and forgot that the 6 whole oranges I was adding would not just be providing flavor but a good amount of sugar. long story short the stuff is almost sweet enough to use to use in your tea. Waste of a lot of honey. I'm sending what I have left to a friend to make home made soap out of.
@merddyn2002 I bottled it because i didn't have time to deal with it at the time and i ended up just mixing it with other things and drinking it. Had a good flavor but was just a sugar bomb. If it happens again I'll just split the batch into two carboys and see what i can do about thinning it out. I'm much better at making beer although i'm going to try making hard cider this year and see if i can't mess that up.
You could of gotten all those recipes if you downloaded the free trail.

@sharpie443 why don't you just thin it out with a bit more water or even add some fruit juice and re-ferment?
