@bentiff1234 If making fun of a persons physical appearances and handicaps makes you feel better about who you are, and the food offerings at the hospital - so be it. Good for you! Maybe you should consider thinking that the extra weight Charlie carries and his own personal struggle around weight loss may color his opinions that so insult you. Perhaps his extra body fat may be part of his desire to make change happen. There is no reason that Huntington cannot lead the nation in mindful living.

Charlie Burd....I grew up with him right here in West Virginia. He left West Virginia to be with his "partner" Suvir Saran where they currently live together on a farm in Upstate New York. Both he and his lover are joint partners in a restaurant. Their website: Just google Suvir Saran.

I've been to this hospital and its very nice. What Charlie fails to show you is the healthy massive salad and fruit bar selection that is in this facility. Pay no attention to this "Fruitcake"

@jackwilliamson74 Some of us do like fruit cake. In fact my cookbook, the new one, even has a recipe for fruit cake from Charlie's grandma from West Virginia. The hospital is indeed very nice. It is this same niceness that makes one wonder how Mozzarella Sticks could ever make their way into the cafe. Jamie Oliver had only last year brought Huntington and its obesity to the nations attention. One would assume that this grand city would have citizens affecting change quickly thereafter.

Like all journalism... show what you want to get your 5 minutes of fame. Love how you left out the oatmeal, salad bar, Dean Ornish foods/ soups, fresh fruits, etc that are also available if you choose.. Bet if I took a trip to NY I could find a variety of similar foods at most NY hospitals  ...I also don't think you can get jet lag from a 1 to 2 hr flight...

And you may be unaware of the large amount of Dean Ornish foods offered, if you don't know what that is look it up would not want you to be completely ignorant. I noticed you failed to mention all the other foods in the display case were healthy grab-n-go sandwiches and salad's. I hope you found some "real cream" for your lisp, oh I mean lips. wrong assumption???

To allow things to remain in status-quo is not a celebration of the patriotism of the population nor a statement of pride. For Huntington to become less obese and less maligned by the likes of TV Anchors with greater visibility, Huntington should make radical change. That change will not happen by your mocking Charlie Burd's lisp. Maybe by demanding change in the offerings at cafeterias across the state?

I've been to huntington to visit my cancerous godfather.

He shows all the bad aspects, yet not one bit of the good. They offer an amazing selection of health foods, which he conveniently left lout. It's not like the patients are fed fat 24/7 -

Meals served to patients are generally healthy. The fatty foods in the cafeteria are present in most of the hospitals across the united states. It isn't the hospitals fault people are fat- It's peoples.

Hell he doesn't know what it means....... maybe because he a phony! He probably lives in H-town which is why hes fat also. I can't stand it that people try their best to prove that Wes by god Virginia is full of dumb and fat rednecks. We may be influenced by southern culture but it isnt the entire population thats like that. I wouldn't change where i live because i love WVa and will always defend my home town!

@kevinwilkes1963 jetlagged because of travel from New Delhi, India to Huntington West Virginia. Flight from New Delhi to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to NYC, NYC to Huntington. All in just under 30 hours. Travel that and maybe you can report back about what jetlag one does experience.

A good citizen of a democracy does not mock another's work, but rather, embraces it as a unique expression of an individual with freedom to think, comprehend and understand the world in a very different manner from all other citizens. It is this freedom of speech and thought that makes a democracy so much more powerful for its populace than a dictatorship. Perhaps you will be inspired to film a video and share what Charlie Burd did not.

This guy is probably from the area or his family is & he likes to come here & ridicule the "hillbillies". I happen to work at this hospital & while I never feel the need to defend it, I do oppose broad generalizations (stereotypes). I'm sure I could assume a couple about the author if I wanted. I've been in many hospital cafeterias & this is just the standard slop they all peddle.

Perhaps this desire to never have difficult conversations and to not challenge status quo has brought us to the very challenging crossroads in our nations history. We are the fattest nation in the planet, and Huntington some say is the fattest city of that obese nation. If all is so good, one would wonder why we are how we are. You are what you eat. Hope we can remember that.

@suvirsaran That was not my problem with the video. It was the snarky, sarcastic, demeaning attitude of the author who blatantly ignored the healthy choices offered in the cafeteria. There is most definitely a problem with obesity in this country, and I believe it is very important to address this issue. If you would care to be honest about this, you would have to agree that the intent of this video was to belittle the poor hillbillies in Huntington, WV.

How sad, I can't believe that is a hospital cafeteria. Eating in an unhealthy way seems to be a fact of life in WVA no wonder Jamie Oliver did a special on it. Truly shocking.

@deasmiles I must caution you that not everything Jamie shared was true for all of WV and not everything we think he did for change, was either appropriate or ground breaking or change that caused people to change their lives. Somewhere between what we saw on TV and what we did not lies reality. I was sad to see barely a few months after his show that nothing had really changed. That some people were only worse off. There are many sides to each story. Lets make educated judgments on our own.

@suvirsaran thx for your input, I wasn't judging the people, I just felt sad, also fast food I know is a way of life not only in WVA but in VA where I'm from and in Texas which is my adopted home state. The poorer the people, the less access to healthy fruit and vegetables. I lived in DC for years, and to eat well I did without many other things, cable, a car, a mortgage..it was a choice for me, I preferred going to the farmer's market and shopping @ healthfood stores, no judgement :)
