In the original lineup, the agreement was for there to be 2 leads and 2 backups. Beyonce and Kelly on lead. However, as much as I love Kelly, Beyonce was the one with the more powerful voice. So, she got most of the solos and did most of the work at live performances, as demonstrated here

Beyonce is the best singer and performer out of the group. When she sings you can see it in her facial expression and her body movement. I think she did the right thing to go solo. Michelle and Kelly have a nice voice..but Bey is the stronger one. It would have been nice for all the girls to have great solo careers, but they don't. The unspoken rule is that there can only be one black "it" girl at one time. Bey is that woman right now.

The fact is, Kelly and Michelle are BETTER off w/o Beyonces pops. Nobody can ever come between a father and her daughters. Thats the realisation of it. The truth. For them to get 100% back up w/o any hiccups. Its only right. I wouldnt want my daughter under Beyonce's dad. No pun intended LOL. Bey is the shit regardless! mwah!

Why are ppl still speaking as if Beyonce threw Kelly and Michelle away and they are on welfare? Michelle's debut was the BEST SELLING Gospel album that year and both Gospel albums were #1 debuts. She made history as Roxy Hart in London. Kelly was the first to win a Grammy outside the group solowise and the first to get a #1 hit which stayed there for a record number of weeks. And altho she didnt outsell Beyonce she is still second with multiplatinum album and single sales. All 3 have success.

Beyonce is the best singer and performer out of the group. When she sings you can see it in her facial expression and her body movement. I think she did the right thing to go solo. Michelle and Kelly have a nice voice..but Bey is the stronger one. It would have been nice for all the girls to have great solo careers, but they don't. The unspoken rule is that there can only be one black "it" girl at one time. Bey is that woman right now.

@Annazayla I agree she's da best entertainer of DC but I have to give da vocals to Kelly. Beyonce has da best vocal CONTROL but Kelly is the best singer. If she had the confidence Bey had and training to control her breath n pitch she would be on top of her vocal game. Even if you listen to them as a group she soars on songs like "Amen" and National Anthem. She always did the harmonies. Bey herself said Kelly's voice is so versatile she steps in when the they're sick like Emotions in Rotterdam

Can people just stop hating?? Number one they were a group that had a lead singer, and that happened to be Beyonce. And she happens to be a great singer! Maybe she was a better performer than the other ones and that is why you can only notice her!!! They make great music together, they are best friends and that is all that should matter! jeeesh get a fucking life!

Kelly and Michelle have had several chances to prove themselves as solo perf. when DC disbanded. Bey has proved it time and time again that she was and still is the best one singing and entertaining wise out of the group. Moreover, Bey has no control over the media attention she gets--every decade there is an "It" black girl that the media shines on..right now it's Bey. The music world is very, very, very demanding--why do you think Bey said she didn't want her sister getting into the business.

All the outfits are great and was chosen based on their style and body type. Look, I am certain that favoritism was shown towards Bey--SHE IS THEIR CHILD, in addition the group was HERS, she STARTED THE GROUP, therefore, SHE DECIDES what direction she wants it to go in. There was no way to tell that Bey was going to be the superstar that she is today, sometimes ppl just want to venture off and do their own thing. Bey wanted to expand her options. I don't blame her.

At least she didn't screw over the Kelly and Michelle in the manner in which Diana Ross and Barry Gordy did to Mary and Florence of the Supremes. Even Stevie Wonder said that Diana was evil, hateful and would step on anybody to get what she wanted. AND THE GROUP WASN'T EVEN DIANA'S!!! It's not Bey's fault that Michelle and Kelly aren't as famous or successful as she is--the racist media, public, Matt Knowles and the record lables are resp. for that.

If you watch: it took Michelle a while to get into the line up during say my name and she came with no hat--and when that kinda stuff happens (like a hat falls off during the performance) Kelly always throw's her hat off, so Michelle wouldnt be the only one with out the hat and the lead singer was.
