I saw the Muses play twice and briefly met them at a music store autograph signing, all in the same weekend. It was during the "The Real Ramona" tour. Kristen was very preg, and a bit cranky. Tanya was sweet.
gosh I would so love to see footage of these guys just hanging out like back stage or something - throwing muses were just amazing - way beyond their years!
I am so sorry I never got to see them play live. The guitar licks are still genuine. You can even hear a Breeders-esque Pixies-like sound. They are still great.
It's not really interesting, but I'm caring for a person with a life-threatening illness. Guess I got distracted and thought Teresa rather than Tanya. This is my escape. Please let it be pleasant.I do know the difference, but I'm very confused right now. I did apogize. which I thought was sufficient. Just wanted to join in the discussion.
No big (Kim) deal! (excuse the lousy pun). We forgive you Onlydreamin!
Myself, i would like to add to the discussion that i find these girls awesome, they formed a band being SO young...and what a band! totally idiosyncratic, sounding like nothing that existed before...Some strange phenomenon must have occurred to the fabric of reality in Boston in those years, for the two probably greatest modern and very surrealistic bands, the Muses and Pixies, to happen.
They were very young. You're right, too, in that they didn't sound like anything before them. They weren't punk, they weren't new wave (but they do sound a bit like your moniker). Her new stuff (typing "her" is safe!) isn't bad, but I'd really like to see a return to the old Tanya.
True. Theresa Donelly has performed for years as an Indie artisr and has been successful. But hey, let's not forget today's Indie bands like Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse. They are going strong abd not stopping. Then again, people forget they're Indie and haven't signed with a major label. I could list lots of others that have been successful, but you've probably not heard of them because I apparently like "strange" things. I enjoy being "strange." I get to hear great music!
that's Indie for real , what you got today is boring idiots in skinny jeans playing like nice puppets to the sound waves of the major labels AND STILL - sell no albums ! modern tragedy indeed ...
Theresa Donelly is solo, now. Part of her problem was the rapid change of who she performed with: Belly, Throwing Muses, Breeders, and then going solo. Nobody knew where she was. Check out her solo efforts. Not quite as good as her Belly days, but still good listening. I love Theresa Donelly no matter what her incarnation is. The Breeders is a great listen, too.
I like Tanya Donnelly but in my opinion she has often been overshadowed by her more talented bandmates--in this case, Kristin Hersh, in the Breeders the Deal sisters. Hence her solo stuff is not as good.
Kristin (and sometimes throwing muses are still around as great as ever). SO don't despair, there more to be had for us old people, and the young ones as well. See throwingmusic com for the latest and greates!
A lovely melencoly song by one of my favourite groups... how could we describe it for the kids.. post love empahthy rock? Kristen Hirsh has such an amazing voice.
because indie music has had it's arse-hole torn out by MTV and corparate music companies. luckily there are, and always will be, great off-kilter musicians and song-writers to listen to, if one only has time to search.

Indy's have always been up against it. As soon as they have any success the majors snap them up and tear out their soul to make a few bucks.
