A pentagram is the star without the circle, and a pentacle has a circle around it. My teacher said "pentaCLE--cirCLE" is the easy way to remember it.

Witches wear the pentacle with the star point facing up. Pentagram has the point facing down with the horns at the top. The pentagram still has the circle around it.

Pentacle is a pentagram with a circle around it. Pentagram has no circle. The pentacle with the point at the top means "spirit above matter", while the pentacle with with point at the bottom means "matter above spirit". It is also used in 2nd degrees for Wiccans.
