@hategrape1 Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton are the only people not "of color" who could sing this song, but their versions are certainly not the best, in my opinion
I am sure Johnny's "sweet chariot" took him straight into Heaven where he belongs with his precious June. Beautiful couple & one of the worlds best examples of "true love".
maybe I am completely wrong but if i ever get on top of a man who tries to rob me here is how it would go. slowly. swing low (punch in face) sweet chariot(punch in face) and continue lol gotta sing it slowly so he learns his lesson
I'm so glad my dad played Johnny Cash's greatest hits around the house when I was a kid. The Man in Black became and continues to be one of my favorite artists. I love that he gives the history of this song before singing it on this vintage clip. Mr. Cash was a good man. Praise God!
Chills throughout. R.I.P. Johnny as you are remembered on this your birthday 80 yrs ago. You and June will always be loved and missed.

We wouldn't be who we are without this rich, unique voice. We were a part of it; it was a part of us. Thank you, Johnny.
