@dark7element It's incredibly unlikely, but if unicorn and pegasus are recessive traits, then a genetic mutation for each embryo could do this (I'm basing this on a limited knowledge of genetics, my thoughts mainly going to the simple Male/Female matrix. Due to the circumstances, being a unicorn have to be a recessive gene, as well as being a Pegasus. Mr. Cake could very easily had been heterogeneous, and could therefore have one of his children, providing his partner was also either heterogeneous or homogeneous recessive. On Mrs. Cake's side, it is possible for her to have born a Pegasus, since her family seems to also contain the recessive Pegasus gene. They both could have Unicorn and Pegasus babies.

You can't get a trait from Mrs. Cake's great aunt's second cousin twice removed but maybe they know her better than the blood relative further up the family tree who the trait really comes from.
