You guys are why I love poi so much [: Most of my friends that spin son't live near me (like 2 hours away) and so i'm never exposed to new poi and when I find a new trick or stumble upon a concept with the poi that I want to find something to make of it I just go to your page and you have something for it! You explain everything so well and so thouroughly I usually get it right away! You guys are the best :D
ok this is getting irritating. im just starting with poi and i have the 3 beat down and i really want to learn the 5 beat but i consistantly hit myself in the nuts. any suggestions to avoid this so i will keep practicing?
i definitely agree that "the slower you go, the faster you learn." The person who taught me how to spin always told me that and also taught me breathing techniques to keep my heart beat and breathing at a slow and steady pace. That saying goes for anything that you are learning. And practice makes better...never perfect ^_^. There is no such thing as perfect...so go out there and get practicing lol
"And if you can consistently hit yourself, you're doing great!" Oh, then I must do great, because I'm constantly hitting myself when trying this move...
Oh my goodness these are the best videos ever. Nick, you are amazing. You made me laugh and you have taught me everything I know! I want to call you Woosley-sensei or something of that equivalence :)
I'm playing poi casually since November now and i just love your videos :)
I have to learn it all by myself, because I don't know anyone else playing poi and I am at a point where I can hardly learn about videos anymore, because they either show basics or don't explain the moves good enough to let me repeat them.
Today it took 2 hours of practicing the 5-beat-weave (hell, my wrists hurt that much because of the wristflipping) but finally it made "crack" and it now it works!
I really like how you analyse the moves and show the directions and flow of the move. I am really new to poi and just tackled 3 beat. you make it look so terribly easy!!!!!!!!!! haha :) I've been trying 5 beat for a while but have managed to do a 5 on the right and a three on the left LOL. I see what i do wrong now though so i will hopefully have a succesfull go next time :) thnx for this vid and taking the time to explain! :D
is there any way to slow it down more so i can see what ur hands r doing while the poi r spinning i feel it will help more if my eyes could keep up with whats happening
Belive it or not Free energy is real,But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,Start the revolution!

"Now, if you could consistently hit yourself, that would be great..." Such positive attitudes throughout are the best part. Learning from Nick is so easy, fun, and encouraging:)
wow, you make it look so simple!!! im just starting with poi and would love to learn to dance with the fire one day, not any day soon, lol!!! love your sweater i have one just like it. thank you very much for braking everything down for the beginers, you just rock!!!
I discovered this move totally by accident yesterday just messing around.. all of a sudden I was doing it, but now I can't get with it again... thank you for the break down.. always so helpful... I could watch you do the back in time bit over and over btw... :)
your an awesome teacher! im still struggling but i think its my poi, i have strings on mine wich make them longer and once i shhortedn them its harder to spin, any ideas to make it easier??
i hit my self in the balls 3 times and then i gave up for a little bit...oh ya what are the things you are useing (poi?) and do you know a site that will show me how to make them?
Not only are you absolutely hilarious but the way you teach is really great! You break everything down in a way I totally understand. Thank you and ROLFMAO at 'Follow Me' and 'This Way'!!
I like how u break it down I've been doing poi for about 1 year and I love it i have so much fun I would like to see u play with fire poi one of these times
holy crap I've been doing poi for only 2 months going on 3 and learned only about 10 things in total. i can do 3 beat like in my sleep and i couldn't figure out how to do 5 this video got me to do it in 3 tries O.o thank you so much meenik!!
Thanks man. You are awesome, I watch all your vids. I got Fire Poi for Christmas and just started up, I learned the 3 beat and 5 beat weave in 2 days from your video lessons!
This is a really cool video. Been trying on and off to get the 5 beat weave for a while... But I just hit myself in the balls so I'm gonna sit down for a while.
I noticed I had a tendency to hit myself and then realized it was mainly because the poi were slowing down to a stall or nearly a stall by the time I got into that final/extra rotation on each side. I also notice that with 5 beat weave, if you look closely you notice that on each side, the diameter of the circle inscribed by the poi performing that extra rotation gets smaller, so you can't get a nice consistent diameter.
I just managed to do the 5 beat weave tonight! When I first was interested in poi about 2 months ago, I came and looked on YouTube, and the first poi video I came to was yours. You made it look so easy, but you really explained so well. So over the last 2 months, I have become a huge fan of yours and just about all I know I learned from your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your passion for poi. God bless.
Amazing, I've been struggling with this move for a while now, and although at the time i thought the pointing with the hands and practicing how the wrists fit together was silly, I can see that it REALLY did help. Thanks a ton nick
wow you are amazing and cute!, but really i have had the hardest time with five beat weave, i sat down watched it, and then got up and first try got the 5 beat weave. Amazing way that you go step by step on how to do it!!! thank you so much
Between you and Wombatovitch's explanation I was finally able to get this move that I've been trying for over 12 months! Your "we're going thiiiis way" really helped me put the "move" into actual motion. Thank you!!!
You really are amazing at describing the moves and breaking it down into a bunch of helpful "stepping stones" that help so much with learning the move. I just got the forward three-beat weave last night and I'm going to work on this one soon, though I think I'm going to figure out backwards 2 and 3 beat weaves first.
I have only just got into poi and your tutorials are great!! Putting them into laymans terms :)
What I found really great was you getting rid of the poi and just showing us what to do with your hands and wrists. I found it useful to just do the wrists and hands whilst holding the poi- it just came naturally then.
Great tutorial! I have been trying to figure this out forever and no other tutorials worked. This one was so clear though that I figured it out in about 20 minutes!
Nice, thanks a lot for this. I picked up some poi of the sock and tail variety a few days ago, I'm currently in Japan, and wanted to learn some neat looking things. I think this tutorial is by far the best on the 5 beat weave, and it's coming along much better than any other video has helped me. The twisting of the hands and the last beat of the bottom hand has been messing me up and the way you explain leading hands has helped that a bit.
I waited soooo long before learning the backward 5 beat weave, but now I finally started to get it right. He is absolutely right, if you wait too long it will be really hard to break the 3 beat pattern.
OMG I love this guy! I almost got it on my left side but my right side is gold! Got it down in about half an hour, i think in about another half an hour I'll be able to do a passable 5-beat :D :D :D
The part that helped a lot was when he had you do the pointing thing, then I just added the poi and kept going even when I got tangled.
I'm so happy right now T_T I've been trying to get this down for almost 3 weeks.
Thank you! This is an awesome video. When I first started playing with poi I did the 5-beat weave naturally. Then my friends showed me the 3-beat and I totally lost the 5-beat.
I love how you show your hand movements from above. So it looks like from the perspective of the person spinning. It makes it so much easier to follow along.
i can do the 5 beat weave perfectly....learned it from this video and polished it up and i am satisfied. Just keep watching this video it will click sooner or later.
goddd, i cant do the 5 beat, my motor skills are all out of whack, i learned the 3 beat then i started to learn crossers and fountains. what happens if the left hand poi lags behind when you cross to the left side of your body????
at 5:13 when he shows the hand movements, while in this motion you must throw the poi over and under the left one while the left one is going under and over.. it took me a really long time to realise this haha, I think I watched this video like 20 times to see what I was missing but he's right everyone thinks differently. Thanks Nick you just made my poi experiance well amazing ^_^
it's tough to just sit there and spin with one poi because you know you're not doing crazy fancy tricks but i'm practicing and i want to get good so i will definitely put in some more time/work today
umm what do u call a 5 beat weave while u rotate in a circle cuz when i learned this i always like do it than spin in a circle while doing it repeatedly o.o
ouuu my balls!! (im doing it great) thank you so much for this tutorial

Thanks a lot and keep it up! You're amazing! =)

i think it also very much helps to start with focusing a 5-beat wave on one side, and keep spinning a 3-beat wave on the other side. then switch.

I waited soooo long before learning the backward 5 beat weave, but now I finally started to get it right. He is absolutely right, if you wait too long it will be really hard to break the 3 beat pattern.
Thanks Nick! :)

Mahalo!

goddd, i cant do the 5 beat, my motor skills are all out of whack, i learned the 3 beat then i started to learn crossers and fountains. what happens if the left hand poi lags behind when you cross to the left side of your body????
kithui 2 years ago
at 5:13 when he shows the hand movements, while in this motion you must throw the poi over and under the left one while the left one is going under and over.. it took me a really long time to realise this haha, I think I watched this video like 20 times to see what I was missing but he's right everyone thinks differently. Thanks Nick you just made my poi experiance well amazing ^_^
